We here in Mayfield keep hearing of this great undefeated Tn 1a state championship team that is only about 30 miles from us. We have been trying and trying to get them to play us. Still they are a no show. Could it be that they don't want to risk that undefeated streak. I'm sure we would come there to play them. I'm almost willing to say we would spot them 7 and give her a go. We are not worried about a loss. We want to win but, if we lose it gives us something to build on and it doesn't count in district so why run. We want them bad. The coaches have tried to make this happen. Each year we get the same response, we can't make the schedules work. Let's give it a go. I would love to see us replace Marshall Co with that game.

Come on 1A Union city Tenn this would be a step up. eriously:

Mayfield played Union City twice back in the early 90's when they had good teams and beat them both times.....they know what they are getting into.

That says a lot though. I know our coaches and they would love that kind of challenge. If we had someone that close that was really good competition, even if we were the underdogs, they would play them. That is a very big part of what makes a team better. The better the competition, the better you become.

Would be a great game.

Id like to see the game, but maybe they couldn't work it out on there schedule. Imagine if they said we have 1 week available, and Mayfield had to drop Graves, or Tilghman to play them that week. Mayfield wouldn't do that. Im not saying they haven't avoided Mayfield just wondering if they already had there schedule filled the week Mayfield wanted. Another thing aint Mayfield, and Marshall got a 2 year contract as usual, wouldn't be right to drop them in 16, and leave them high, and dry without a game. It almost seems like a no win to me for Mayfield. Union city hasn't been that historically strong have they. If Mayfield loses they brag. If Mayfield wins they still brag, and say funny how Mayfield died to get us, but didn't want us the 2 years we went undefeated.

Union City HAS been historically strong. Not as strong as Mayfield but they have a lot of years of being very solid. There is a Tire Plant in UC and Mayfield used to have a good one too. I've always thought it would be cool bowl game to have Mayfield vs. UC and Graves vs. Obion Central. Call it the Rubber Bowl.
On the Mayfield side, they already play a tough non-district schedule, I don't blame them for not going out and adding another brutal game.

Yall are missing what I'm saying. Our coaches have been trying hard to get this game. It's the other side that doesn't seem to want to make it work. Trust me we would love to add another tough game.

2 and half hrs - vs 30 minutes? We already have to travel 3.5 for a regular season game. I can't see having a 2.5 hour one as well in the same year. Especially in our playoff travel years

Last year Calpreps had UC ranked higher but that is the only year I am aware of that they have been ranked ahead of us. I was curious and did the matchups for the past 10 years and we were 9-1. I would take those odds

That Ark trip would be good. We could after the 2 yr contract is up with Corbin, take that. Or my preference would be to swap Marshall Co for that. I do like that idea. I like playing tough out of state competition. That quietens all the talk about how weak Ky football is. You won't ever hear that out of people from Evansville, Ind or Trousdale Co, Tn or Milan, Tn or Cape Girardeau, Mo or St Louis, Mo. We have made some believers in those areas.

You are correct Killer. Our record against Jonesboro is 1-1. Not bad against a bigger out of state power.

I want to give a run down of Mayfield vs out of state teams, not counting scrimmages. I am doing this to counter Sheriff Griffith's response about how weak Ky football is.

Mayfield is a traditional powerhouse that can compete with most neighboring states powers. The regular powers from Ky can usually hold their own with out of state teams. Unfortunately the number of traditional powerhouse teams from Ky is much much smaller than our neighbors. All of our classes are usually really top heavy and gets weak past the top 4-5 schools.

I'm not sure the years. I got this from our stat book. It just lists the teams and our record against them. I know it has been since the 80's because I remember talk of us playing them. Maybe Mayfield Cardinal can recall. That is, unless he has had too much coffee today and is bouncing off the walls again.

Looks like an ideal matchup for both as the hypothetical matchups look like this over the last 10 years:
neutral field
[2014] Mayfield (KY) 30, [2014] Jonesboro (AR) 28
[2013] Mayfield (KY) 28, [2013] Jonesboro (AR) 24

Yes they are hard on the heart. I am not exaggerating when I say this, my wife got so stressed we thought we were going to have to take her in for a heart attack. I mean serious enough that we got off the highway and started looking for a hospital before she said she was okay.
