Coach Roark would be a good fit, kids love him he has high energy and great knowledge of the game. South don't need a prune they need a personality that can get the kids out of the hallways and back in the weight room and on the field wanting to play football. Being a local boy and knowing most parents would be a great asset in trying to get the program and community involved again.

We need to hire Greg Duncan!!!!!!!!!!! Its a no brainer, Just missed Tommy Larkey wouldn't that have been interesting. :insane:
#4
I think they should look to hire from within. Don Burdines would be an excellent hire. He could really take the program to another level.

Cherokee is looking for a place if something else falls thru. On the line my good man

Cherokee isn't looking for nothing Freakit, but do appreciate you calling me a good man.:welcome:

4 coaches in 4 years makes it hard to get the kids to commit.
#8
Fire principal to start with..
Then hire Duncum
#9
Duncan may be in the hunt, ate dinner with one of the inner circles and they indicated this, also Jep Irwin and Mo Dixon name also came up.
#10
If Greg Duncum is interested in the South Laurel job, they should hire him today.

He's proven his ability to improve a program, the kids love him and I could almost guarantee you that he won't move off to greener pastures. Not outside a 30-mile radius, anyway.

Great guy, great coach.
#11
TIme to give Coach Sizemore a chance. Call Bracken County and say it's your chance.
#12
I was wondering what kind of athletes South Laurel has going in the building. Do they have kids that could compete with regional teams? Do they have any kind of decent youth and middle school program?
#13
A school as big as South has athletes. They just have to come out for football. As far as the youth programs, they're not impressive. JMO.

No shot either consider leaving great positions in Georgia. Entirely different world where they are at right now.

Just my opinion, but whoever is hired needs to start with a complete overhaul of the youth programs. The youth and middle school has to be on the same page as the high school in order to sustain success. If they get kids excited about playing football at an earlier age then they won't have as many athletes roaming the halls that don't come out for football.

I can't see a coach leaving Georgia to coach at South. I really think it would be a good thing to bring in someone that knows the school and the athletes. Bring in someone that wants to be there and would plan on staying a while. Coach Michael Sizemore fits the bill. He has experience as a head coach and has built a program literally from the ground up. Just my opinion, but based on the last four years, it's time to give him a shot. What's the worst that could happen? Go 0-fer? Wouldn't be a huge drop off.

That is a true statement and a great place to start. Does the HC at South have any say in this matter though. Most places they do not.

^^Branch totally off from those schools feeding North.
#19
Oh yeah, hire someone who cares about defense.

There is no way Mo or Jep are leaving football heaven to compete against hoops. I have heard from more than 1 2 or 100 people it is all about the hoops there not to mention they would take about a $40,000 pay cut. I heard an old guy say on time "Get divorced 1 or 2 times you can blame it on your spouse, but get divorced 3 o4 or 5 times you best be looking in the mirror". S. Laurel has major problems, regardless of the reason 4 head coaches in 4 years UNHEARD OF!!!!! Not trying to make any of you S. Laurel fans mad but I would just like to see the admin take football seriously.
#21
Middle seems to be on right path playing in the KYMSFA but can't speak to the youth league. Scary to any coach if has to build a program ground up and he don't have any ties.
#22
I've always thought South was an interesting job. It might be a good job for the right person.
#23
PRINCIPAL--- must change or will never have football

I am agree with you but please give me deeply knowledge about this.. :please:
#25
Is the principal that anti football?
#26
Ask Coach Jackson!!!
That's the reason he left to go to Green Co.
Principal wouldn't give him a weight lifting class for the kids.. That was all he ask for!!
#27
Any news on next head coach?

Hmmm. I know of 2 very successful programs who don't have in school weightlifting. BG and Highlands. I also know that as Larkey was building the Rockcastle program they lifted after school. I have other examples.
