Who will be Harlan County's Next Coach?
RunItUpTheGut Wrote:We're talking About a different time. Obviously Pulaski couldn't compete with Trinity in 4A football. Now there are no excuses however if a coach no matter the time period hasn't won a title in 20 years including Haywood then yes I'd look somewhere else because he would have never made it 10 years.

This makes no sense. There can only be 6 state and 12 regional winners each year. With over 250+ FB teams in the state then every school would be looking for a new staff over a period of 4-8 years, other that the elite few. A max of 20 coaches(if no one repeats) would keep their jobs if this were true. Head scratcher!
About 3 coaches would have the same job after the first 5 year period. That string of posts about firing coaches and winning requirements is one of the stupidest things I've seen in a couple of weeks. The math on it isn't even possible. Dudley would get fired. Haywood. All time guys. Basically everyone except Mueller and Beatty and Morris at Mayfield. Everyone else-GONE.
More to it than just winning!!!!!
Better open the checkbook with that line of thinking. If I'm a winning coach I need a contract, then money for wins, and state titles. Then when a bigger school comes calling with more dough...cya!!!

With that said... At trinity you better win. At highlands you better win. Maybe a few others across the state but everybody else is at the mercy of the players they got.

Pulaski and Hines didn't have to compete against Trinity. They were in 3A. After 11 years in 3A, from what I can tell, they won no district championships, much less state championships.
So, you would have fired him?
The Black Bears are in the weight room, guess they got an interim Coach? Last I heard the principal was looking for someone.
In the history of KY high school football only 4.82 percent of schools to ever exist AND play football have won a state championship.
Just Saying.
[quote=Granny Bear]I am upset because of the manner in which Larkey was terminated, that IS a disgrace and why I am upset.

I wasn't attacking you at all and the reason I was posting rumors was to try and show everyone how idiotic it is. I mean Demarcus and Gut make more sense saying THEY will coach.

I will apologize to you but believe me, you have misunderstood my intention. Larkey was building a great program at HC, and like you I'm scared to death that it has come to a screeching halt.

Oh, and EVERYBODY knows who I am!!
LOL[/Q

No need to apologize. A lot of people are upset at how Coach was treated. HC was on its way but the school's success was not the goal for some. Arrogance and selfishness will cause the downfall of what could have been a great program. I'll just say sometimes badges are not worn with courage or honor. Having said that, I have only talked with a "couple" of people who have questioned his character, check FB and you will see the impact he has made on his former players, parents, and peers. All I know to do is pray and put the players and program in God's hands.

Not Ricky's quote. It was actually his dad that said that.

How did you come up with that %. I'm really just curious.

Yes I would have fired him. Are you kidding me?
11 years and not a single district title?

Really?!?

It makes perfect sense. Win ball games or lose your job.

Should have been a lot of coaches getting the ax.

I thought it was about building young men of extraordinary character who excel in academics, athletics, and life in general?
HCS Wrote:Frazier's name comes up a lot. He had some pretty good teams at Cumberland.
I know no Class A team around here in the past 30 years had the talent of those teams. At one time he had George Massey (UK), Charles Tinsley (Eastern), Anthony Ravizee (Morehead) and Sanford Baskin (Eastern) all on one team, plus several other very good high school players, like Jon Evans and some very big linemen.

How far did Frazier go the year he had all those good players?

You can have all that along with making a run to state, which is why the game is actually played. To win.

If that where the case then very few coaches would be let go. Lets stop kidding ourselves the bottom line is WINNING! And coach Larky is a winner.

So you're saying if you don't win the state championship, you get no values from the game of football?

Man you just like to knit pick everyones post dont you? Did I say that? No I didnt. Read and understand what I said. Dont read any more or any less into it. Geez. Here we go again. Rd. 2 ding ding

Bingo...

If close enough is okay, then you got to rethink your approach to coaching hires!

I dont hire coaches but nice try.

Just close, LOL!
walterwhite Wrote:Just close, LOL!
You got close though and thats all that matters I guess
One team's loss, another team's gain! It's all good, life goes on! The Friday night lights will be burning bright no matter where Coach Larkey is coaching!
Demarcus ware Wrote:You got close though and thats all that matters I guess

Truthfully, close only matters in horseshoes, horse races, and hand gernades. Everything else, close ain't enough. I just think you fire someone face to face, not by email. Coach Larkey earned that, at the least. Same if you resign for another job. Whatever happens, I wish the best to the Black Bear nation and hope it all works out.

You're really hung up on this close thing when it was a joke to begin with huh? Lol. Everyone agrees it was a bad way to fire someone. Im sure it will work itself out. Thanks though.
