Belfry 14 Central 7 - 3A State Championship
#31
Congratulations to the Pirates on another state title. It was a pleasure to watch a fullback running people over repeatedly and a defensive lineman completely disrupt an offense. People have already said it, but it's worthy of repeating. Horton may be the best defensive lineman in the state, and is the best I've seen. To Central's credit, they tried multiple approaches in blocking him and all failed. Horton most definitely looks like a D1 player, but we as fans should just enjoy such a high school talent for the next 2 years. Again, cheers to the entire Belfry family and to the Central kids/coaches for making it a good game.

Has a school ever won back to back title games without giving up an offensive TD? Belfry's defense is one of the best in Kentucky regardless of class.

After a little bit of research, I'll answer my own question. Belfry joins Lynch East Main('59 & '60),Trinity('72 & '73), and Franklin Simpson('79 & '80) as possibly the only schools to do so. There might be others, but those three are the only ones I could be sure of.

Party on Pond Creek tonight!

Party in BG Tonight!! I swear that field goal looked good to me but Haywood wasn't throwing a fit so I figured it was the correct call

Had to be wide left. Plenty of leg and looked good on stream but the angle was impossible to tell.

Excited to see this Belfry defense next year.

At the same breathe... though they only replace 4 Seniors on Offense those are some studs that are gone.

Congrats to Belfry and my old coaching pal Brad Allen on a great season!

It's also worth mentioning that our LBs (Hatfiekd and Dakota Stanley) made big plays in Centrals very minimal attempts to run the ball. There was no chance of Central gaining any yards on the ground and they were as big a reason for that as anybody.

Belfry has choked about every way you could possibly think of in the past, so I guess this is their due time. Congratulations to Belfry.

My first chance seeing Belfry in person this year. They didn't play a flawless game, but their experience in the big game seemed to show through. Never saw anyone panic or look tense the entire game. It's easy to stay calm when you have a guy like Horton on your defensive front. In my opinion, Horton is better than advertised and it's hard to believe his age. The potential for this kid is as high as he chooses. I would love to see him playing in the SEC in a few years. Both coaches did great with game plans and adjustments. I think Central made more adjustments as it seemed Haywood wanted to stick with what got them there, and in the end that's all they really needed. If Belfry's defensive line wouldn't have been so dominant, Central's second half adjustments on defense could have got them back in it. Regardless, the better team won and it was a great game. Should be one of the best this weekend. Congrats again on a great season to Scroggins. I agree with what a previous poster said, I do think he will eventually get into college. He could add a lot to a coaching staff and I think he will be an excellent recruiter as well.

Congrats to Central on another excellent season. Two great coaches and programs playing for all the marbles in December. Battle of Titans. 3A gets tougher next year but these two teams will have to be accounted for.

I think all Belfry fans would agree that Central deserves the utmost respect. Coach Scroggins knows the game of football and IMHO is one of the best coaches in the state. Belfry did not play to their potential today , we had lots of missed opportunities (interceptions), two fumbles and costly penalties. I feel the score does not reflect the dominance of the Pirates BUT I am extremely happy to get out of Bowling Green with a win.

Congrats to Central on another amazing year.

Way to go Belfry- Back to Back STATE CHAMPIONS

Penalty fest for Central.

On a side note. Belfry will never wear red pants again in a state championship.

Why? We won the first two with red on.

Should have been clearer never wear red while playing central.

That's what I thought you were getting at.

I'm not the superstitious type, but to each his own.
