Congratulations to Williamsburg for making the 1a state championship game for the second year in a row. A feat no one would have thought of even 5 years ago. Unfortunately, you have to play one of the best programs in the state again.

That is the most impressive set of stats that I've seen since the 1972 Miami Dolphins. They had the #1 offense in the NFL. Led the league in total yards, rushing, and scoring. Were the first team ever to have two 1,000 yard rushers in the same season. They also had the #1 defense in the NFL. They allowed the fewest yards gained, and fewest points scored. They still have the only undefeated season ever.

You have a perfect 14-0 record too. But, the Dolphins were playing professional teams, while you have played Jello Puddin' Pops.

In '93 you beat Prestonsburg for the title. They upset the best Danville squad out of all the Admiral teams the week before.

We do the caravan every time we win though. It is an impressive sight.

We have 5 state titles in 2A when we had the enrollment to qualify for 1a. If not for an enrollment increase from the local chicken factory bringing in a couple of thousand hispanics and boosting our enrollment we still would be 1A. We beat 2 top 5 2a teams this year and shut out a team playing for the 5A title. Yet somebody thinks we wont win in 2A. The even bigger difference is back when we won 5 2a titles it was a 4 class system. Which means many more 2a schools and better comp. So keep dreaming

The higher the class the better the competition. I don't think you will see any of us try to get away from that. Better comp makes us better. We want to be better.

I love that we are going back to 2A. I played on a 2A state Championship and a 2A runnerup to Danville lost in ot. We are top 5 nationally in victories. With a huge percentage when we were 2A or there wasnt even a class system. As for strength of schedule it matters and the last 2 state title games. Neither Fairview or Williamsburg were prepared for Mayfields speed and athleticism. Both games were over before either team knew what hit them.No way a 1a school can simulate that in practice. So you schedule teams that can throw that at you. It is a big deal it is a big deal in every sport. If you dont test yourself then it is very difficult to improve.
