2014 Overachievers/Underachievers
#1
Teams that exceeded expectations and who fell short of expectations?

Who comes to mind?
#2
Shelby Valley - over
Pikeville - under
#3
Lewis County- far under. Went 7-3 last year and returned 8-9 starters ok both sides of the ball. Finished 5-5 and missed playoffs. The Lions did lose their QB during week 4 which completely changed their offense, but I still thought they could have won a game or two more without Isaac.

Id say all of the single A teams in NEKY over achieved. Paintsville has my vote for over achiever of the year lol Avenged the blowout to Pikeville and only 2 TDs short of avenging another one to Raceland.
#5
Graves County over

Caldwell Co under
McCracken Co under

I would also say Mayfield overachieved for a rebuilding year.

When was the last time that Mayfield had to truly "rebuild"?

Y'all play 1A.....Confusederiously:

After hearing all year that Highlands was down, Highlands is not very good, Highlands barely winning, ect, I would say they must be over achievers.
#10
Cooper Jags-over
#11
Fairview i feel was over . A team that lost most of the roster , add in a new head coach with a completely different O than has ever been played at Fairview , & Fairview still goes 7-5 & 2nd round of playoffs when a lot of people around here thought they would only win 0 to 3 games at most .

I would agree with that.

Whitley County - Over
Clay County - Under

We may play 1a but we almost beat a top ten 6a, we beat a 5a team in the championships, a regional runner up 3a and a semi finalist 2a.
#17
Knox. Corbin. Over

Middlesboro . Bell. Under

Almost only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.
Secondly it doesn't have anything to do with KHSAA you could of chose to play up classes like a lot of schools do. You all just said lets stay in 1a where there is no competition and win meaningless state championships.

You should probably keep up with the rules a little better.
:rules::rules::rules::rules:

Nobody was allowed to play up, until next year.

False, under the alignment that's in affect in this current season, which came into effect in 2011, both Russell and West Carter both petitioned to play up in 3A as their original alignment had them in 2A in a district with P'Burg, Shelby Valley, Leslie County, and Betsy Layne. Both schools got what they wanted on the basis that the 3A district they requested was much more convenient geographically.

I'm not positive but I think Highlands as played up in class for the past few years. But I might be wrong I was once so it could happen again.

The bottom 32 teams are not allowed to play up. It's still that way. Secondly, why the frick do you think it's our responsibility to request to play up just because we are doing well? That is the purpose of classifications. Our size indicated we were right where we should be. Don't punish us because we did well. How many people complained about Beechwood winning 11 state 1a titles by playing in 1a?

I would say pikeville and Somerset under
Shelby Valley and paintsville over

I wouldn't consider Corbin as an overachiever.
#28
Under achievers - Prestonsburg coaching staff. The kids and their talents should have been playing this weekend but play calling killed them. Sorry #1BCF.
#29
Fairview -over. new coaches new system
greenup county -over. with most of their would be players playing out of district at raceland. they played solid defense
Ashland-under. well lets just say never believe the hype
#30
I would also like to say Fleming County was an overachiever this year. Second in the district and 3 of their four losses came against teams playing in the Semifinals in their respective classes (Shelby Valley; Russell; Lucasville Valley, OH) and the other loss came in the playoffs to the region runner-up (Bourbon Co.).
