This will be a great chance to see several of the 13th region favorites play. Looking forward to this event. Also, it honors a really great guy.
#3
I will def make this one. Alot of good games to see. Good chance to see how some of the local teams look this year
#4
South Laurel vs Montogomery should be a good game in this event
#5
north laurel vs perry co should be a good one. atleast I am interested in seeing how north does against perry.
#6
southwestern vs rowan is another one I am excited to see.
#7
Steve Wright vs Shawn Thacker should be a good one
#8
Whitley beat East Jessamine 67-62
Clay beat Mad Central 79-72
Anyone have other scores?
#9
Knox central got killed don't remember score but got beat by close to 30. They looked awful. And perry central was toying with north laurel. Would get up 10 or so and then play the whole bench. Then put the starters back in and pull ahead.

I'll say this Clay and Perry central was head and shoulders above everyone else tonight
#10
Marcee looked really good for KC but tonight he was all KC had. North didnt look very good at all. Brad abandoned the big line up early. No one on the team could handle the ball. It's very early but I don't think either of these two teams can beat CC come tourny time.

So.....remind me again why coach Brian Evans was forced out???
#12
marcee didnt look good to me at all.
#13
Oh....like to say good job by south laurel for a great day of hoops at the GJ smith classic. Everything seemed to run smoothly and was some very good games.

I thought the same thing playmaker.
#15
I thought he looked great with his back to the basket but tonight no one else could do anything so he always had at least two defenders to deal with.
#16
But to be honest, nobody would give him the ball , what I saw of the game. Seemed as though everyone was just trying to get theirs.
#17
I know these were scrimmages but I think CC established themselves as the best team in the 13th. And Smith as the best player in the 13th he finished with 26 PTs and 13 rebounds and 3 steals.

I agree. But didn't this team have the same problems last year.
#19
I like clays team. house looked bad against press tonight. knox will look better when barger gets back and henry clay will make alot of teams in the 13th look bad. long and fast. henry clay shot the ball better than I thought they would too. North will look alot diff when rice and grieble and collier all there. north did ok with missing those three. as good as broughton was tonite I think with those three playing broughton shoots some better shots and even looks better. Adam sizemore looked really good at point in the 2nd half for north especially the 3rd q
#20
Those three will definately make a difference.
Any timeframe on collier or rice.
#21
not sure on rice or collier. I figured rice would have played tonite. Heard he sit out last game just for precaution. idk to miss both scrimmages something sounds worse than I thought it was.

No disrespect intended. Is he a hard worker. I've seen this kid for three years now and he's been in street clothes more than a uniform.
#23
I thought North looked awlful, they cannot play that big lineup, no ball handlers. and the sizemore kid will get eat alive by a good defender. Hes just too young to handle that kind of pressure right now. Broughton gets his but takes horrible shots. anyone that shoots as much as him will put up big numbers

knox central was horrible, Henery clay was picked 7th in that region and made them look slow. barger will make some difference but not that much. Marcee played well i thought but was doubled the whole night and didnt have any help.

Clay County IMO was the best looking team on the court today. Showed up against a quality opponent not from the mountains and looked good. I will say this Blake Smith is an absolute stud. he has the best all around game ive seen in the last 20 years. I didnt see him take a forced shot all night and he lets the game come to him. Farmer and wolf looked really good as well, and i do agree that House struggled all night. He could not handle the press and Smith had to get it up the floor.

Overall very good games tonight. Im very impressed with Clay and Perry as teams and Blake Smith and Braxton Beverly as players.
#24
I also thought southwestern looked really good, in the 2nd half especially, against rowan. I think clay, southwestern, henry clay and perry all looked like pretty good teams.
#25
I would like to see perry play southwestern and henry clay against clay and then switch it up and let henry clay play perry and clay play southwestern. I guess I am just ready to get season going. lol
#26
Madison central was picked 4th in the 11th region and Henry Clay was picked 7th if this is really how this region shakes out. Then this makes clays win even more impressive. I don't North can compete without Collier either. And it blew me away how bad Knox looked. I do agree that southwestern looked good. But I think Perry and Clay was the class of the field tonight
#27
These teams will look diff in a few weeks. I know southwestern just got a football player back and still waiting on the ruling on david getting eligible. North was without collier grieble and rice and knox was without barger. Those kids for those teams are game changers but I agree knox looked bad tonite. southwestern, clay, perry all impressed me today. they would have a battle anytime they played. Henry clay looked good but I am not sure if it was henry clay or knox just that bad. I am guessing the farmer at point experiment is over
#28
I liked southwestern also. North will be a different team when they get their pieces but I don't know if barger will be enough to get KC over the hump.
#29
What did you guys think of south? With grubb having an off shooting and scoring nite I thought south looked pretty good at times. Grubb has grown up some I think. years past if grubbs offense wasnt there he would hang head and not play def either. today he still got after it

Dead on in your assessment I think. I'm a little skeptical too on Barger making that big a difference for KC, because they got drilled by what I thought was a fairly ordinary (for Lexington) Henry Clay team. Once Clay got it going after getting down seven in the third quarter, they played awfully well. Smith does have the most well-rounded game of anyone who played yesterday, and Beverly of PC is just a phenomenal player with the ball in his hands.
As for North, they desperately need Collier and Rice, Collier for athleticism they don't have enough of, and Rice for some interior banging, because Asher wants to live outside. I agree that a lack of ball handling and the resulting turnovers will be their Achilles heel even after those guys are playing. South could be a sleeper, because the new big is pretty good and team chemistry seemed better without Baxter.
