Lex Cath @ Highlands 11/28 4A Semi Finals
#31
DALE Wrote:They were probably 60-40 run against JC with their play calling. They rotated QBs, Wagner and Dressman, every few plays. Ashland Daily had them with 84 yards rushing I believe and 121 or 122 passing. They run their offense out of about 4 or 5 formations. Double slot, double tight, trips, utilized a wing formation, tight/flank with twins opposite side. A few others sprinkled in here and there.

I think the Paintsville Herald listed CovCath with 211 total yards of offense...I don't remember the breakdown of pass/run however...JC was credited I think ,with something like 287 total yards, so JC did outgain CovCath on the night.

My prediction is that Lex Cath has at least one more point than the birds when the final second ticks off the clock.

So you are saying they are scoring at least in the high 40's.

Wasn't last years game a running clock before LexCath tacked a few on at the end of the game to make it respectable? What has changed so much with LexCath over the past year to make it a different outcome?

49-35, LC started moving the ball well through the air second half. Highlands will put a lot of points on the board, they have against everybody including teams better than LC (average 40 pts a game this year). LC will have to put up big points to win (they have an offense that will score against HHS) and hope for some mistakes by HHS (TO's, bad snaps, bad plays on special teams, ect.). Problem is Highlands had worst game of year against Ashland 2 weeks ago, and 3 huge TO's against Cov Cath and still won. Cov Cath scored 21 points off turnovers which allowed them to keep score close, LC will need to take advantage of any TO's and put them in the endzone.

In the second half maybe Highlands got conservative and sat a bunch of the regulars. LexCath will have to prevent Highlands from jumping out to a huge lead in the first half to stay in the game.

That was a great game. Can't say it was my coldest though. Remember all the College stuff that Couch had on that night and the choppers landing in death valley. To bad his last pass of his HS career was intercepted that night.Confusednicker:

I missed it. I was up the street on Dixie Place at a COUPLE'S SHOWER!!! Every time the cannon fired every guy at the party turned and watched me cringe.

I am sure you had more fun at the shower than you would have at the game!

Then we saw the parents-to-be one time after the birth. I should bring this up to my wife this weekend.:ChairHit: It wasn't just me. Every guy in the room had that "wish I'd picked the firing squad" look to him.

If you pick Highlands you will usually be right. I'm staying with Highlands. Should be a good game but the Birds win by 12.

Game could be a track meet only because of the lapse in a Bird pass defense. Lex Cath had better hope for a couple turnovers or this game will get out of hand quickly. Prediction: Bird BLOWOUT.

You are picking Highlands in a blowout? Were you not the one who said they would lose to Covington Catholic? What changed from one week to the next for you?

This could be what keeps LC in the game. If HHS gives up long quick TD's in passing game to LC like they did to Cov Cath, It could make it a close game. If D plays better and does not allow the long pass completion, I see HHS winning comfortably.

Lunacy is the quick answer to that question.

If you are afraid that Highlands players will be overconfident, then play up how dangerous Lexington Catholic's offense is - but me, not being a Highlands fan means that I can state the obvious.

Highlands should be a prohibitive favorite to beat Lexington Catholic. If LC wins, it will be a huge upset. Covington Catholic is the second best team in 4A this season and Highlands is much better than any remaining 4A team. The state title is their's to lose.
Your believing in fools gold if you don't think catholic can play with highlands.... 13 points against Taylor when it rained 3 inches during the game. Players could barely stand up for both teams. Bryan station game Catholic had all 4 starting stud linebackers out with injury and 1 or 2 secondary guys.... Not to mention Station almost beat St X and was pretty good this year. Catholic beat a very good Boyle team twice and Highlands is barely winning in the playoffs. If it were at Catholic I would say the Bluebirds loose , but I pick HHS 34-30... Wouldn't be shocked if catholic pulls off the upset though!!!!

Highlands beat Bryan Station this year at their house and had no problems scoring... neither did Bryan Station, they had some weapons with speed and great QB,
I think Lex Cath could hang but they need things to go their way big. I know they have great QB, who are their weapons?

Very good QB that can throw or take off and run some. Jalen jones very good RB, several receivers that can all catch and make plays. Their lines are big and athletic. Defense does really good against the run now since everyone is finally healthy. To beat them you are going to have to throw. That's the only way Boyle moved the ball.

Lex Cath always has a really good QB.
Throwing the ball is the most dangerous thing Highlands does. Venneman has unreal speed and if you put your stud DB on him and shadow with a safety the alternate WRs are good enough to make you pay. And Beau can take off with the best of them.
I have a feeling this game will be a wild west show.

Uhhh 30-15 over a 6-5 Ashland team. 37-34 over CoV cath team that got drilled by 1 A Beechwood are not decisive wins by any means when it comes to what Highlands has been in past years. Where have u been?

The field was wet for Taylor County too, unless I am mistaken. Bryan Station always has an athletic team but they rarely make good use of their talent.

Unless Highlands is way down from past years, I see Highlands running away with this one. LC may tack on some garbage points to make it look closer than it was.

Did you see the games or just the score? Have you seen any HHS games this year? Ashland was 15 pt win because HHS played worst game of year and they still won. Cov Cath could have been a blowout if HHS does not have 3 TO's that CCH turned into 21 points; and HHS had over 530 yards offense which does not sound like a team that is struggling. Where have you been, did you know CCH had a ton of injuries in Beechwood game? People have been saying since start of year that this is the year to beat HHS, but they just keep winning. LC has played weaker schedule with best wins against Boyle. LC better hope the get some gift TO's like Cov Cath did if they are going to stay in this game. This HHS offense is a machine and will put up a lot of points. LC needs to score on all possessions they get on offense and then hope HHS has an off night with turnovers.
