I have been talking about this one since early season. Lex Cath has type of team that can give Highlands D a lot of trouble. Problem is Lex Cath D has to find a way to stop Highlands O. Look for Highlands to win in a high scoring shootout.

I think that Highlands won the state title last night. The type of team that gives Highlands the most trouble is one that can dominate the time of possession and keep Highlands' offense on the sidelines. The Lexington Catholic game could get ugly before the end of the first half - and I hope that I am wrong.

COV CATH did not keep highlands of offense off the field! HHS had over 500 yards. CCH first scoring drive was long time consuming drive but rest where not. Two where very long pass plays (around 50 and 70, can't remember exactly). Three times HHS had TO's, or they are still on the field. I would not call that keeping them off field.
Did CCH just pound the ball up middle on JC? Did they pass much? Just curious if their offensive play calling was different against JC by what you posted, because they did not run that type of offense againt HHS. HHS will stop teams with no passing game, it is a team that can pass that they struggle with and CCH knows that. That is the difference with HHS/CCH, they change their offense to what D gives them unlike a lot of teams like JC who will run one type of offense no matter what. Without the pass and TO's, CCH is not
even close in this game! That is what worries me about lex CATH, they will
score on HHS with passing game! The question is can they out score HHS, that
will be tough task.

I didn't do a stats compilation or write a book.I simply made a prediction. Highlands struggled against weaker Ashland and Covington Catholic teams.They might win by 50 against Lexington Catholic. They were probably 60-40 run against JC with their play calling. They rotated QBs, Wagner and Dressman, every few plays. Ashland Daily had them with 84 yards rushing I believe and 121 or 122 passing. They run their offense out of about 4 or 5 formations. Double slot, double tight, trips, utilized a wing formation, tight/flank with twins opposite side. A few others sprinkled in here and there.

Highlands has had a tough time against the pass this year. But Beau is a special player, both with his feet and his arm. LC has a great passing game and Ryan does a great job at spreading the ball around. They have a great rb in Jaylen Jones as well. This coukd become a shootout. If LC can keep Veneman from beating them down field and keep Hoge from burning them outside the pocket they may very well go to Highlands and knock them off. I have to go with Highlands at home in a shoot out though.

So, Highlands pass defense is worse than Taylor County's? :biglmao:

Covington Catholic's quarterback, Adam Wagner, played and played well against Johnson Central, although he did not start at QB. Wagner completed 11 of 14 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Covington Catholic also rushed for 89 yards. Adam Wagner rushed for 14 yards and a touchdown.

The Colonels used a balanced offense against JC. The teams were very evenly matched and the big difference in the game was a blocked FG attempt that Covington Catholic returned for a TD. That play gave the Colonels momentum that they never gave up.

BTW, Johnson Central had more total yards against Covington Catholic than it gave up and held the Colonels offense to two touchdowns. The Golden Eagles will return one of the top defenses in the state next season - a defense that performed better against both Ashland and Covington Catholic than Highlands' defense did.

Still, Highlands should dominate the game against Lexington Catholic.

Other teams, COV CATH last night, have keyed on Vennamen and have kept him in check. But that is fine with HHS because they will take what D gives them. HHS will complete fair share of passes, I think big question is can LC stop the HHS running game? If they can't stop the run, it opens up the pass even more. I like your pick of score, but would not be surprised to see it higher. I do think this is the game we miss not having Abner at DB.

I believe Hoot is a JC follower, so what does he know about high scoring offense of Highlands and Lex Cathollic? If he is, all he observed is Cov Catholic offense and their defense that shut down their high scoring Eagles.

One thing that Venneman has been good at in the clips and highlights i have seen is following Hoge across the field when the pocket breaks down. He is very good at finding a soft spot in a defense. This should be a very good ball game.
