I will always support Covington Catholic over Highlands because of the many obnoxious Highlands fans that find winning with class such an insurmountable challenge. Both schools have classy, tradition-rich football programs, but the CovCath fans just seem to understand sportsmanship and common courtesy a little better than their Bluebird counterparts.
Although the actions of some past Paintsville players, fans, and coaches reflected poorly on their football program and nearly destroyed a few years ago, Coach Chirico has managed to restore my respect for Tiger football since he took over.
Paintsville has a good program again, but to say that it is the best program in Johnson County is a bit of a stretch. Paintsville's small enrollment has always made it difficult to compete with the larger 1A powers consistently. I would not want to see JC and Paintsville matched up in the Apple Bowl again because it would not benefit either school, outside of the ticket sales.
As long as Matney is coaching at Johnson Central, eastern Kentucky schools with smaller enrollments will find it very hard to beat the Golden Eagles on a regular basis - which is how it should be when large school football teams play small school football teams. That is why I would like to see JC add Covington Catholic and Highlands to their schedule now that they are moving up to 5A.
Don't bother giving him the time of day trying to explain logic to him Hoot..Those are minutes lost out of your life that you'll never get back..For one thing, you are talking way over his head, and secondly he cant figure out that he plays right into it every single time he makes some of these stupid comments.

hahaha, well as Thomcat proved earlier, nobody, absolutely nobody, has played a more cupcake schedule than the mighty dawgs....But you enjoy freezing your beeeeehind off for nothing there dawggie. JC has already played them and found it not much of a challenge......But then again, you already know what that feeling is to be throttled by a ship of Pirates, don't you...

Bottom line is JC has to strengthen there schedule. Start now and work on a schedule in 2016 -2017 or 2017-2018 home and home.

Way to talk down to the competition Bobby. You are getting better I see but I'm still on a different level. Sounds like that is theme in JC playing down to competition and when the Big Boys show up.

Are you basing this on just the few fans on BGR? Have you ever traveled to Ft Thomas for a game? All teams have their few nut jobs, but the only time I hear people talk about HHS having classless fans are the ones that have some jealousy issues. Did you read the letter the Coach of the Florida team sent to the school following their game? If not it was a letter praising the nice people of Ft Thomas and how they went out of their way to make them feel welcome. How often do schools get a letter from other teams coaches? And this was not the first! I honestly feel HHS fans appreciate good football and are quick to praise other teams when they see quality play!
Hoot, I have to say I am a little disapointed your boys let me down. We had plans to come down for the game and stay an extra day at Jenny Wiley and check out the elk! Last time we came down for a game the JC people were very nice to us and we had a very nice time. I invite you to attend a game in Ft Thomas and see how you would be welcomed! (just make sure to leave Bob Seger home.:biggrin

Together, they add up to more obnoxious posters than support any other team, IMO. Every good team has a few such posters, but Highlands has more than its fair share. I guess that is the cost of having so much success.

Thank you for the invitation, but I have no interest in watching Highlands play unless they are playing Johnson Central. Maybe they will work out a contract now that they will be in different classes and regions. It would expose both teams to styles that they do not often see during the regular season.
BTW, if and when I come to Ft. Thomas to watch a game, Bob Seger is welcome to come along for the ride. :lmao:

Bottom line dawgs still playing, eagles getting ready for next year as usual. But if highlands and cov. Move up in class and lc has left the 57th you may in some sport get a state title but hay untill then you can always go over in town and look at paintsvilles state championship trophies! Least you will know what one looks like.

If Johnson Central wins a 4A state title next season, there should be no doubt how the three teams stack up head-to-head. With all of the talent that the Golden Eagles have coming back, the games would benefit all three teams and be well worth the travel time to play.
Why would next year be any different than any other Matney year? He likes his schedule the way it is. Weak. But, next year the schedule will work out fine with all the competition moving out of JC's class. Instead of JC getting permission from the KHSAA to move away from the competition, they just had to lose a few more years and it happened for them.

Please do not equate all HHS fans to the posters on the "other" website!
I to would love to see the two teams play. However, with everybody in NKY knowing that there are some lean years coming up for Highlands, they are beating the door down to play us now. Do not see them scheduling a 3 hour away game now that so many NKY teams are going to be willing to play them.

Neither Highlands nor Covington Catholic fielded one of their better teams this season and this was a rebuilding season for Johnson Central.

Tough loss JC. Keep your head up.

Central had a heck of a season considering what they lost. All you Golden Eagle fans are very lucky to have a coach like Matney. He never fails to put a good team on the field. As pointed out earlier in this thread, JC has to beef up the schedule if they want to win a state championship. They must have a hard time getting those high caliber teams on schedule because they can play with almost anyone.
11-17-2014, 02:03 PM
Good season for JC. This was a rebuilding year. But they got beat by a better team. I do hope they are able to beef up their schedule next year. I know its not weak due to a lack of effort. I know they have offered Prestonsburg alot of money to play. I would love to see them add Lawrence Co. That would help Lawrence more than JC though. Best way to prepare for Belfry is play JC right now. With Highlands and CC moving up I would love to see one of them added every year.

You are so right.... JC has no team state championships.
But I've not been to LC's campus in awhile, how many team state championships do the DAWGS have?

As the verse says "some mocked".... and all of the JC haters are mocking after our defeat.
But the latter part of that verse says.... "We will hear thee again of this matter."
