As long as the Colonels win, I don't really care.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team racked up 296 rushing yards and scored five touchdowns in the second half on the way to a 56-42 win over Tennessee State Saturday afternoon at LP Field.

With the victory, the No. 16 Colonels (8-1, 5-1 OVC) earned their first win at TSU (4-6, 1-5) since 2005.

Senior quarterback #Jared McClain# and junior running back #Dy'Shawn Mobley# each picked up 139 yards on the ground. McClain's total was a personal high while Mobley has now reached 100 yards in four consecutive contests. McClain also completed 10-of-18 passes for 70 yards and a score.

McClain gave the Colonels the lead for good when he burst through the line for a 36-yard score on a fourth down play early in the third quarter to make the score, 27-21. Three minutes later, sophomore wide receiver #Devin Borders# picked up a fumble and raced in from 33 yards to extend the lead to 35-21.

Eastern twice extended its cushion to 21 points in the fourth quarter following touchdowns by junior wide receiver #Jeff Glover# and Mobley.

The Tennessee State defense came into the game leading the league in scoring defense at 17.6 points per game. The Tigers had not given up more than 28 points all year.

Eastern Kentucky scored the first 17 points behind two Mobley touchdowns. However, the Tigers' Darion Hall returned a kick-off 100 yards for a score to jump-start the TSU offense. Tennessee State scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-17 lead into halftime.

Eastern Kentucky returns home next week to host Jacksonville State in a battle for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference. Game time on Saturday, Nov. 8 is set for 1 p.m.

NOTES
--Wide receiver Devin Borders notched his fifth block of the season. Borders blocked a first quarter punt, which led to an EKU field goal.

--The Colonels scored 17 first quarter points, the most allowed in the opening quarter all year by Tennessee State.

--Running back Dy'Shawn Mobley has tallied a rushing touchdown in seven straight games.

--After beginning the year 0-for-3 on fourth-down conversions, Eastern has converted its last three fourth down attempts (all for scores), including a Mobley 33-yard run and McClain 36-yard run today.

--Eastern is now 5-1 in road games. The Colonels' five road wins are the most since 1990.

--Running back Dy'Shawn Mobley reached 1,000 yards rushing thanks to his 139-yard performance. Mobley has 1,061 yards this season.

--The EKU defense forced at least three turnovers for the sixth time this season. The Colonels scored 24 points off four Tennessee State turnovers and finished +2 in turnover margin.

The secondary is really banged up right now. Add that to the loss of Khiry Maddux for the season due to a spinal issue and they just weren't at 100%. That being said one of TSU's touchdown's came on a kickoff return and last 2 were when the Colonels were up 21 points and playing a pretty soft zone.

The offense got the job done in the 2nd half. No one had run the ball on TSU like that all season.

EKU will have to be much better next week against Jacksonville State but all you can ask for at this point is a chance. Win next week and against Murray and we're at least OVC co-champs.
