Who is that one player from your school you wish you had back to this year's team??
Maybe it is a superstar Running back, but they didn't have to best line to run behind.
Maybe it's a wide receiver that didn't have the best qb to throw the ball.....
It doesn't matter the year they played.... who would you choose?

I would say for Rockcastle I would pick Marty Ragin. not only was he heck of a RB but he was a shut down corner. Ive never seen a guy that little hit like him.

Russell...Josh Gross.
A bit undersized but tough as nails. Names all over the Ky highschool record books. Played defense, offense and punted if memory serves.

So many to pick from, but at Highlands I would have to go with JLO. As good as he was throwing the ball, I really miss seeing him run straight up the field with 2 or 3 guys hanging on him and not able to bring him down. It was just not fair to have your high school QB be bigger than the linemen/LB's.

I just can't go there yet.

Tough one for Belfry...
I am split between Doug Howard and David Jones, but leaning Howard.
Howard would be great because as good as Hatfield is at FB they lack that physicality at HB . Howard was exceptional at blocking for the other backs. He was also a great LB, but LB isnt as much of a need position for this Belfry team.
Jones checks off more need positions. You get elite speed and pass catching ability. Most importantly you get one possibly the best CB to come out of EKY. Jones also eliminates the punt return and kick return issues Belfry has had.
What pushes Howard ahead though is leadership. I think that's what Belfry misses the most with such a young team and Howard was the clear vocal leader of those teams.
Belfry0304 has a video of a stiffarm as well if he would be so kind to share. The most amazing stiffarm I have seen at the HS level... yeah that helps too.

I see how you are. You had to bring that one up didn't you. I know which one your talking about. I must admit it was wicked. :ChairHit:
The one he put on Joe Blackburn of Prestonsburg, right?

Yep... I think 0304 can get his hands on it. I am hoping he can share.
To this day I actually still feel bad for Joe because I thought WYMT gave him a rotten deal. The next week he went out and had a monster game and earned WYMT Player of the Week for it...but 3/4 of his segment was WYMT asking him about the stiff arm he took and showing the video. Kind of thought that was dirty of WYMT to short change the kid when he just had one of the coolest achievments of his career.
But man alive that stiff arm was beyond nasty :yikes:

I had a view right across from it. That game was packed. People hanging out of trees (literally). I agree with the WYMT statement. I can understand mentioning it, but to take away from his achievement was a bit low.

At Leslie Co., Everyone would say Tim Couch I'm sure... But I'm not so sure that would help this team much. I mean, they average 35 points a game, so if I were to bring back one player, it would come from this list of MLB's...
Pearl Spurlock
Paul Melton
Jeff Johnson
John horton
Timmy Baker
John Brewer
Give me one of these guys back and I would be VERY happy...

For Pikeville, I would go back to the late 80's, and add either Bobby Deramus, or Greg hackney for the rb position. Tough call. However, since this season's team is well stocked at that position, I would add lineman Tim Honaker to the off./def. line. Would be a great addition.

Scuttlebutt I hear at the NL games this year when we have been able to attend ... (I wasn't in the area last year), but the name Gabe Blair, comes up....over and over again! I have a feeling for recent years, that fellow, who I believe was a RB, would be the one that crowd would like to see back on the field this year!

For Pikeville, you're close Big Five-O! I would be greedy and go for two - both linemen!!! Bob Shurtleff and Mark Littrell. Both signed with SEC schools (UK and Vandy, respectively). Shurtleff played on the two Hall of Fame Bowl teams under Jerry Claiborne. Two SEC OL on a Class A (played on 2A level then) school, that's hard to top. Two other linemen on that team also signed D-1 scholarships.

Better to be close than not at all I guess lol! That is true though, those facts are hard to top. Proud to see these athletes from Pikeville to have done so well:Thumbs:

I would say just to name a few Buckeye Hunter, Corey Davenport, Josh Brown, John Dudley Hilton, their is a bunch though that comes to mind!!!:yikes:

For DB help so I could rotate guys, I'd have to go with Chris McNamee. He could cover, play FS or SS, and in some packages was a DE as well. Not to mention, stout TE and RB when needed. Man, this is tough. So many get overlooked if you pick just one. Lol

Was a better Safety than QB IMO.
The best player I have seen from SC was DL Joey Stepp. Guy was a monster and was country strong. Tough as nails and relentless. That's not take away form his as a QB either..he was very good...but I think he led the State in INT's one year at Safety

Johnson Central.... for me, it's a toss up. So many names are running through me head.
But I guess it would have to be based on the needs to the team at the time.

Did Nate Moore play college ball somewhere.... the guys I work couldn't remember.
I've heard some guy named Tiller from SC (sp?) was a blaze of lighting at RB for the Cards...

At Fairview we have so many needs so im torn . Would love to have OL/DL Anthony Roark back hard hitter that could open a hole on offense , & clog one on D . Also wouldnt mind having FB/LB Chris Brewer wasnt the fastest guy but hit hard , & could take a hit , he was very strong & hard to bring down . Chris Jennings RB/LB was an all state LB , & i think RB also . He has same attributes as Brewer except faster , & he went on to be a RB in the NFL

While they have a number of "need areas," Tremayne Perkins (Class of 2001) would be an excellent addition to this year's Briar Jumpers in all three phases.

Agreed. I remember watching Chris going in for Greg Hackney on the first drive of the championship game in '87. Got good yardage, then went right back to his tight end position. I think he was like 6' 2" 220lbs. and very stout. Coach Howard said Chris was like a coach on the field. Multi talented. Very good choice imo, PHS.
