Just something I was thinking about today, Why dont the KHSAA make all schools have a play clock visible for coaches and players to see. I know they are some schools now are getting them but there's a lot that don't. What's everyone opinion on this?

Some may be run by referees, but, I do know that a good friend of mine from college runs the play clock for Western Hills and he isn't a ref. He still helps them out though his boy is playing college ball at Hanover College.

a few years ago, VA went NO simply because of the cost. If only there was a cheap magnifier that was like Saran Wrap. they could just take the ones out of gym and use them outside a few times.

Too much money. I think it should be mandatory for back judge to raise arm at 5 seconds. I think it is still an option to them.

If I owned a business in any community around the state, I'd love nothing more than to have the name of that business seen every Friday night in the fall, especially if I knew that it probably gets looked at more than the scoreboard? Now I don't know if there are rules preventing that on the play clock, but it seems like a logical solution?

In breathitt, coke did supply the scoreboard. But that was 12 years ago or so. I think since they took soft drinks out of the schools they will be buying their own for the foreseeable future. I think that was part of the contract for coke or Pepsi to supply these extras.... Or that's the way it was here... I agree, the play clock should be mandatory tho........

Ashland new scoreboard and it's nothing fancy but it's huge was 250,000 dollars. Their are some businesses who shelled out funds to have their names put on the bottom but the school still shelled out quit a bit. As for play clocks they installed those also, one on each end of the field. Don't know if you can have just one on the scoreboard or not and they have had lots of electrical problems with the playclock but finally got them fixed this season.

Most schools do not see the need. Refs keep track of clock and for many years coaches and players have been aware of time rules.

I've yet to see one work properly. No offense Ed (hope the boy is doing well at Hanover). Human error, they skip, and in a blowout when it doesn't matter to either side there is the play clock holding you hostage to get a play off when most teams are subbing down and changing plays for confused freshmen.

i think your cost for Ashland scoreboard was probably closer to 25,000. base this on similar scoreboards i have seen and their cost

Another thing that I hate. Around here, IF company A wants to donate $50,000 for new board, then that money has to go into fund so that Title 9 gets it share of any donation.
So now, school has to find funds to Build the board and then, sale adds on the board to bring in money. No more donations around here for a special purpose.

I'm pretty sure a company can get around that by donating the money to an individual sport's booster club? If they donate it to the school it goes into the athletic fund, but I know in states around the Midwest companies can donate money to whatever sport they chose as long as it goes straight to the booster club. Unless KY has a law prohibiting that?

Not any more. Has killed our 12th man club donations for football.
