Top Ten 1a games the week ending 10-18-14
#1
Of course we are still in district play this week which makes it hard to find enough really good games, but I was surprised at just how good this week really is. Outside of a couple or three of this weeks picks, these should be some really good games. So without further ado, here is this weeks top ten:

1) #7 Raceland @ Fairview
There is no love lost in this bitter rivalry. This should be no different this year, especially with both teams in the running for the district title. Fairview would have a tougher road to hoe in this one to get the district title if they win, but it is still mathematically possible. Raceland just needs 2 win this one and take care of Paintsville next week to win the title. Make no mistake though, this is a tall task as this is the most balanced district in all of 1a. Raceland comes into this one with a record of 6-1 and a Lit rating of 95.5. They have outscored their opponents 292-107 on the year. Fairview comes in at 4-3 with a Lit rating of 80.5. They have outscored their opponents 260-195. The winner of this game may just be home for the entire playoffs.

2) Bethlehem @ Ky Country Day
This should be another great district game. These two teams are probably playing for the #2 seed and a home playoff game. Bethlehem would like nothing more than to get a little revenge on KCD for some of their recent success in the past few years. Bethlehem appears to be the slight favorite in this one, but it is on the road. Bethlehem comes into this one at 4-3 with a Lit rating of 62.5. They have outscored their opponents 218-155 this year. KCD comes in at 3-4 with a Lit rating of 60.9. They have outscored their opponents 163-151.

3) Allen Central @ South Floyd
This is another great district game, which should be a tight hard fought one. Allen Central comes into this one at 2-5 with a Lit rating of 35.1. They have been outscored on the season by a margin of 150-196. S Floyd comes in at 3-4 with a Lit rating of 36.4. They have been outscored by a margin of 215-234. This one should be a bit of tug of war here.

4) Ludlow @ Bellevue
We have what should be another great one here between two teams that seem to be fighting for the #2 seed and a home playoff game. Ludlow appears to be pretty successful this year as they come in at 5-2 with a Lit rating of 47.9. They have outscored their opponents 191-144. Bellevue comes in at 4-4, off a terrible loss to Beechwood, with a Lit rating of 69.6. They have outscored their opponents 242-212. This should be a good game, that I feel favors the home team.

5) Pineville @ Harlan
This is a game that could be passed over if you look at records only. However it is a district game and according to the Lit ratings, it should be closer than the records indicate. Pineville comes into this one at 5-2 with a Lit rating of 60.8. They have outscored their opponents 207-160. Harlan comes in on the flip side of that with a record of 2-4 and a Lit rating of 47.9. They have been outscored on the year by a margin of 108-193. This should make for another great district matchup.

6) Caverna @ #8 Holy Cross
This is another good district matchup. This is not the same old Caverna team we have seen in the recent past. They come in at 3-4 on the year with a Lit rating of 41.8. They have been outscored on the year by a margin of 196-242. Holy Cross appears to be a better team this year as well. They come in at 6-1 on the year, with a Lit rating of 87.7. They have outscored their opponents 228-112.

7) Lynn Camp @ Campbellsville
This is another great district matchup between two teams fighting for the number 2 seed. Lynn Camp comes in at 2-5 with a Lit rating of 21.5. They have been outscored 110-278 on the year. Campbellsville is coming in off a disappointing loss to Williamsburg, with a record of 3-4. They have a Lit rating of 75.8. They have been outscored 151-181 on the year.

8) Nicholas Co @ #9 Paintsville
This is another district matchup with seeding implications. Paintsville needs this one to stay in the hunt for the #1 seed in this competitive district. Nicholas Co comes in at 2-5 with a Lit rating of 39.1. They have been outscored 138-215 on the year. Paintsville is having an impressive season and comes into this one at 6-1. They have a Lit rating of 76.9. Their only loss came at the hands of a tough Pikeville bunch. Paintsville has outscored their opponents 239-130.

9) #11 Paris @ Eminence
This is another district matchup with playoff implications. Paris comes in as the heavy favorite with a record of 5-2 and a Lit rating of 67.5. They have outscored their opponents 190-119. Eminence comes in at 1-7 with a Lit rating of 14.1. They have been outscored 148-303 on the year.

10) #3 Williamsburg @ Berea
This is another district matchup with playoff implications. Williamsburg comes in looking to keep their strangle hold on the district, with a record of 7-0. They have a Lit rating of 100.1. They have outscored their opponents 311-113. Berea appears to be improved from what they had last year. They come into this one at 4-3 with a Lit rating of 36.1. They have been outscored 162-203 on the year.

Well that is this weeks top ten. You guys kick it around and let me know what you think.

Thank you all. I will probably still do this next year. I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of 1a. I will work on 2a as well though. My heart is truly with the little schools. They often get overlooked. Think about how many big teams our little teams upset each year.

A lot of games sorting out #2 spots in districts this week.
