Not going to happen guys. If you don't like the coach, it's your right, but to keep constantly ragging on the coach isn't helping or supporting the program.

I agree with you scotty its not like lc just laid the ball on the ground racelands defense created the turnovers. that is 7 turnovers and that don't count the times lc fumbled and recovered it back. I was only talking about the game plan. And that was to pound the middle and then hit the outside. I don't think lc thought they would beat raceland throwing the ball. This loss will either bring the team together or tear it apart, there are a lot of 1st year players in starting roles, its hard to say how they will react to a little adversity. On another note I was standing behind the endzone when your #23 was flaged both times and I really did not see or hear anything from him or the lc players that warranted a flag, and I definitely did not see him spit on dalton as suggested on here. I think after the lc and brethett game the refs were a little quick on the unsportsman like conduct flag.

When the game was tied at 7/7 LC was 4th and 15 from midfield. Instead of using their punter who is averaging about 40-45 yards and putting Raceland inside the 20 they go for it. Interception, which actually cost the rams about 10 yards. This was a desperation play you use in the last 2 minutes of a game you are behind in. no patience by the coaching staff. going backwards.

Lc was in shambles when cecil took over, numbers down, attendance down. The program is headed in the right direction when a group of players goes from freshman to seniors under this coaching staff and middle school and youth leagues can keep the same coaches then the program will move forward. The constant turnover in coaches has been a disaster for this program. Cecil loves coaching, and he will be at lc for as long as he wants to be there. You have to remember that while lc has a lot of talent on the rooster most of them have never played high school football. So they have went straight to starting varsity, with no freshman or jv experience. You have to look at the whole program and not just wins and losses. My son plays on the team and I really believe he has become a better football player under this coaching staff. I also believe that cecil, short, woods, prince, and several other coaches have tought him life lessons that will serve him long after high school football is over, and that is what is most important.

Idk if its Raceland's offense and all the playmakers scaring cosches into thinking all is lost, but Lawrence, Coal Grove and East Carter all did the exact same thing. Got down 2 scores and started slinging it. Raceland Capitolized in all three games. Its going to take balance to beat this Raceland team defensively. We are really good at bendingbut not breaking inside the redzone. We rarely have to have an extra DL or DB. Im amazed at what we do in our base defense.
In regaurds to the status of LC football, I think its bc for years many hae talked about how much talent was waisted roaming the halls. This year, the tallent and skill guys came out and in 2 games everyone lost their collective minds. It takes time to build things up or build things BACK up. Cecil has made strides. Look what Hoof did when he took over for BTR, had a few hickups, but began to build it back up. Made it to a few regional finals appearences. Passed the reigns to Maynard, he builds on what hoof left, gets a Regional Championship.
I have a friend of mine that builds guitars out of Grayson, KY. Being a musician I had always been baffled by his work and consistency. Its been nearly 10 years and he is just now really getting his name out and makig his signature guitars a mainstay in the bluegrass world. I swear im coming back to football soon.
I asked him why he thought it had taken so long to reach success. He responded with, "Fast in and your fast out. What happens when a fire flairs up in a skillet or on a grill? You put it out as fast as you can. Slow and steady wins the race and slow and steady growth builds longevity"
Raceland has one Regional title and i think around 20 district titles. Yet everyone always talks about the program. Nothing special really, but we have always hand long term coaches. 5-10 years is the norm. Some were there longer. Dawgs, dont grow weary...give it time. Cecil is a good coach.

I have to agree with you Scotty, Lawrence County has a pretty good coach there and all the makings for a good, consistent program is there for the Bulldogs. And just wanted to say that Raceland's staff is a darn good one too. I am a big time Tomcat fan but truth be told, Rams should have beaten Ashland last year and if not for a couple of big plays this year, should have won this year as well.

Scotty_Bronson Wrote:Have to agree. Between the 30s LC ran the ball effectively. Their 3 trips inside the redzone resulted in turnovers either on downs or other wise, and a touchdown. Raceland made really good adjustments after the 1st drive. All but 2 of the 7 turnovers were forced by the Rams though. Imo, LC wasnt quite as good as anticipated, they overlooked Raceland a bit and Raceland came out and smacked them in the mouth each and everytime someone from LC had the ball. Outside of LCs scoring drive, Raceland bent bt did not break and did an incredible job at getting alot of Raceland guys on ball carriers to force fumbles. Raceland probably played their best defensive game of the year. You can put up all the numbers in the world by ground, air, or sea for that matter. But in football, eapecially hs football, there are only 2 that really matter. Turnovers and Penalties. Both can kill a teams chance at a win. Raceland has suffered from that the last 4 years against Ashland. Raceland should be 3-1 against Ashland the last 4 years. But turnovers and penalties led to losses. Cant beat, even a descent team, turning the ball over and having multiple 15 yard penalties.Mr. Bronson. You got it exactly wrong, we're you at the game? 5 of the 7 turnovers, we're unforced turnovers.

The time that Cecil took over must have been when I retired because the last I really remember was when Salmons was at LC and they had that winless year in his first year and then went 21-4 in his last two seasons before he went to Cabel Midland. Somebody mentioned the program was in shambles and going in a negative direction when Cecil took over. So I guess my question is was there something else going on? The reason I ask? Because outside looking-in, taking a program that was something like 3-30 in the years previous, to a 21-4 record leading up to Cecil taking over, is not a program on its way down. It looks more like a program that took a giant leap forward with Salmons as the head coach. Cecil followed Salmons' last two seasons with his first two seasons of a 10-14 record I believe? I just didn't understand the comment made about the program being in bad shape when he took over, unless there was another reason for the comment besides results?

I agree with you it probably won't happen however it may make you think about things and possibly provoke change? I wish you the best. It's definitely not easy being a head coach in a town that demands a winning tradition.

Salmons went 0-11 his 1st year facing some good teams, the next year he goes 11-1 faceing some bad teams. Salmons was 21-15 at lc which was a 4a school at the time. He had 2 wins against paintsville 1a, 2 against east ridge 3a, 2 against shelby valley 2a, 2 against east carter, 2 against greenup, 2 against rowan county, 2 against boyd county. That is 14 of his 21 wins right their. Salmons played these teams to improve his record the team did not get better under salmons the program did not get better under salmons. Cecil was 18 - 18 his first 3 years with 6 of those losses to belfry. He has played better teams, he is comitted to lc. Lc was just a stepping stone for salmons he never intended to stay at lc. He used the school, the program, and the kids for his own gain.

Although I liked Mr. Sammons I have to say and this is just my opinion He never won a game that he wasn't suppose to win. In other words he didn't beat any good teams the entire time he was at LC. But he did what was needed to try and get the ship turned around in Louisa. The same thing Billy did back in the 80's when he refused to move up in class and put the program on probation. They went 11-0 that year. The saying in Louisa was 11 & 0 and no place to go LOL. But it did turn the program around and after that is when the Lawrence Co program got placed on the map. The next few years LC was the team to beat in Eastern KY for about a ten years or so. Yes even Belfry JC and Ashland took back seat during those years.

I agree dropping belfry was not good but it does look like the basic core of the schedule was the same as his first year? However, I am not that familiar with some of those west Virginia teams they played in his second year?

ALL...BUT 2... Were forced. 2 of them looked like miscommunication/footwork. Josh Young stepped right in front of Dalton on his ints and we did a great job of gang tackling to force fumbles

"Nope" the team and program didn't get better with Salmons. All he did was get the excitement for football back up and get more kid's want to play. The roster of all teams was growing from grade school on up. As to say that he was hiding behind bad teams to get wins is like(Boyd, Rowan, East Carter, ) sound familiar? Coach Salmons was the one who inherited a bad program, hell you even said we went 0-11 his 1st year and a good program don't go 0-11. He had it going in the right direction and we beat some pretty good teams under coach Salmons in the playoffs that you conveniently don't want to talk about. You go and talk about Cecil playing Belfry like he wanted to play Belfry lol. The only reason we play belfry is because they are in our district and we have no choice. We have a lot of good teams in this area who struggle to fill a schedule like Johnson Central yet we are playing Boyd, Rowan and East Carter.Coach Salmons was a good coach and he put together a good staff and I have eyes to see with and the fundamentals and football knowledge of his teams were light years above what we have now. Go back and look at every game played under Coach Salmons and tell me what the weak link of every team he had and every game he coached was..............."defense"! Now who was the defensive coordinator at that time? I don't think we will ever know where coach Salmons could have taken this program but the man was never from Lawrence County or even Kentucky for that matter. He took a job in his home state (and a better job at that) and you want to put him down for it lol. I guess he took Cabell Midland all they way to a state championship game by running the program in the ground and hiding behind weak competition lol!

This whole post is silly and you wan't to put me down for my views on the current staff ,then you go and post something like this. I knew coach Salmons wanted to coach in WV way before you did (apparently) lol.

On the bolded you are correct, it is my right and this is a public message board and I am only stating my opinion (and the obvious). I have no personal problem with any of the coaches and I'm sure they are great guys, but it is painfully obvious that the last 2 or 3 years worth of Bulldog teams are not the best taught and prepared. People stating their opinion isn't going to bring a football program down and I have no power or say so on who is or isn't coach. I have never said that the coach is the worst in the world and I do think he is capable of keeping this program from becoming a mess like a East Ridge or someone like that, but to think that he is the one to get Lawrence County football back to where they can compete with the best teams in the area like Belfry or Johnson Central is just wishful thinking IMO. People said to give him a few seasons and he has had that and nothing has changed. We look great against horrible teams but when we play a team with a pulse we look just as mediocre as ever. The man has had enough time to get things going but people are still making excuses for why things arent getting better.
You can make all the excuses in the world but when people try to blame the kid's who are just doing things the way they were taught then I just want to throw up in my mouth.

Wait, what's not gonna happen?
I do agree that it isn't helping the program, but what their doing doesn't seem to be either, and I'm sure that doesn't affect the team nearly as much as players reading on a message board that their coach thinks that have no talent? I'm sure that will go along away to unite the locker room.

"Really" that is some funny stuff considering the fact that just the season before Cecil took over the numbers and attendance were up under coach Salmons and had been for a few seasons. So in the last year of Salmons things were looking good and then Cecil inherited a program with low numbers and attendance. Did you ever think that Cecil being chosen as the new coach had anything at all to do with that because people were just blown away with his job he did with the defense for years as D cooridnator. Coach Salmons was the one who inherited a mess not Cecil! All you need to do is look at the roster numbers from little league on up the exact year Salmons took over compared to when Cecil took over. Then go and look at the numbers and records of the teams 2 or 3 seasons before each coach took over and you will see who was the one that inherited a mess. Keep digging for the answer and that light bulb might come on lol! I can't believe you would post someting that silly and then expect people who know this program and follow bulldog football to believe it. Coach Salmons had people excited about football again and had the numbers up but this new staff seem to be determined to take this program a few steps back.

I do remember covering Goldsmiths last couple years and from I was told he was a beloved sports figure in Louisa. The first couple times he had mediocre years they let him be but by the time his time was over there were for sale signs in his yard as well as his son being heckled. It seems once you start losing and you don't rebound, you're done in Louisa? That happens in most schools use to winning. I'm not if that is true? It was told to me by hearsay third parties but it speaks volumes to how much they like winning.

Can't eliborate further, like I said, don't know if true. Someone close to program should know.
