Raceland @ Lawrence County 9/26

Hahaha double gg , you think the best d back , is playing q back, while I think the best q back is playing d back. What a mess. Glad neither, of us, are coaches.:

Despite what anyone says I think both teams are going to use this game to spring themselves into district play. This game will tell both teams a lot about where they are at on both sides of the ball. It was a great game last year and I expect the same this year. Good luck to all the players, and I'm wishing all the people from Raceland a safe trip to and from Louisa. I have met some great people there over the years. They are passionate about sports just like we are. See you all friday.
#64
Never had a game that got chippy but had a game that had tons of penalties thrown. Does anyone remember that game in Raceland?
#65
I got Raceland in this one. The Dawgs wont be able to handle the Rams.
#66
Greenup held Raceland to 19 points not counting the td at the end of the game when it was clearly over. If Lc can do the same, they should win this one.
#67
What makes you , think that 87? You gotta have a reason. OK
#68
Lawrence beat Russell in a scrimmage who beat Ashland who beat Raceland. Does that mean the Bulldogs will beat Raceland? Absolutely not it has nothing to do with it. The team that is most prepared and has the will to win, with less mistakes will come out victorious. The coaches and players all know this is a big game. Let it be played in good sportsmanship and just have fun.

1st of all kiser has never played db for the dawgs, last year and his freshman year he played outside linebacker. All during middle school he was qb and linebacker. If you look at the numbers the lc secondary is pretty good. They have 7 take aways in 5 games. Not counting the fairviee game becouse 90 percent of their passing is behind the line of scrimmage. Lc is giving up 55 yards passing per game. Pretty good when three of your starters haven't play football in 2 years. Keesee is the only returning starter in the secondary and he moved from corner to safety.

The stats for LC's defense is a little off. The stats for the East Carter game I haven't seen, but in the four games leading up to East Carter they were averaging giving up 230+ yards rushing a game as well as around 130 yards passing per game. Even though a lot of those passing yards came in a single game, you still have to calculate them in the average.
#71
They are giving up well more than 55 yards passing a game, that is incorrect but does that really matter? Let's focus on the game and not each other.
#72
Regaurdless of where a pass is completed be it a bubble screen or 70 yard bomb down the field, coverage is coverage and tackling is tackling. Raceland's corners are great run stoppers as well and are really good at defending the screen. The one team that really did alot offensively against LC, was Fairview. Idk if LC's run defense is any where as good as their pass defense. Thats why I feel Raceland wins. A few big plays get then ahead the. The ru game ices it over. I will say however, that Both teams have the ability to play good football. I just see LC moving backwards right now.
#73
I said except for the fairview game, the secondary is giving up 55 yards a game. When the corners are downfield and the pass is to the running back that is a linebackers responsabilty. That is where our defense is having trouble they are trying to play right up on the line. When they do that they are getting cought up in the line battle and cant get down the line in pursuit. If they would back up a few yards see where the play is going and fill the hole when it opened up our run defense would be much better. They need to read and react.
#74
Moving backwards? This team is 5-0. Two years ago this team found a way to lose close games as now they find a way to win. That to me is a sign of a football team moving forward my friend.

LC is definitely not moving backwards. The young secondary has given up some big plays early in the season but have improved a lot. When Kiser and Shafer have been in at LB the opponents run game blows up. They have used these two sparingly on defense. They also can put pressure on the QB when needed with some blitzes. Most of the points against LC have came in the second half when the game was already decided. The 2 big problems with LC right now is penalities and ball control. Raceland will have to double team Dalton or he will move the ball. Lambert is almost as fast and is very capable at the other WR. The TE Shafer is always overlooked but very dangerous. Throw in Sympkins catching passes out of backfield or slot and you have a defensive coordinator pulling out his hair. And LC is a run team only throwing about 10 passes a game. But those passes are very accurate. O'Brian and Mosely are the work horses and nobody has stopped them yet. Raceland appears to set up the run off the pass, avg. about 20 passes a game, and if they have success with that LC will have their work cut out for them. I like LC by 1 score at home.

Let me start by saying I always have and always will have alot of respect for the LC program, they are alot like Raceland. Always played in a tough district and always been paired with a tough district in the playoffs. The moving backwards comment is inreference to seeing the same type of things from the LC Dawgs around this time last year. Defensively, Giving up big plays and striggling against the run off tackle (do to the LBs stunting so often) and offensively they seem to not utilize play action enough. Now, they have made strides in many ways. Numbers are up, more atheletes on the field, and making better adjustments on teams in the second half. Ie: the Fairview game , one they very well could have lost.

If the LBs play up like I am being told on here, then the mesh and shallow routes Raceland loves to run will give them fits. Raceland does use the pass to set up the run, but over the last 3 games we have been more run based. Raceland has ad the abiltity, even against Ashland, to defend the run and the pass in their base defense. The LBs cover very well across the middle and the DBs are very good wherever they line up and against the run. Our defensive front 4 have gotten better and better as well.

Defensively, Raceland has to eliminate getting soft a few plays a game. They gave up 3 big plays to Ashland and 2 in the Coal Grove game. Other than that the defense has been great. If Raceland simply keeps LC in check, they win the game.

Its hard to honestly gauge either squad simply to the weak early season schedules. Outside of Ashland and Fairview/Breathitt neither team has played a team that shoukd have threatened to beat them. Fairview got to the dawgs simply by being a faster paced team that early in the season. But Cecil and co made the adjustments needed to slow the game down in the 2nd half. The Breathitt game sounded like it got out of control. So i have to toss it out the window. Raceland had a similar, yet not as severe, game against Coal Grove.

Good assessment. I have traveled to Raceland for many years because of the excellent youth league and middle school feeder programs they have worked very hard to build. I always looked forward to the Orange Bowl. All these kids on both teams have a good respect for each other as they have played against each other since grade school. This will be another thriller with LC having the edge because of home field advantage.
#79
Id like Raceland at home by 3 scores. I like them at LC by 2 scores. If they arent too banged up from last weaks battle with Coal Grove, then that game will pay dividends in building the teams toughness and strength upfront. I think Raceland begins to make a statement for relevancy in this game.

After going to raceland the last 2 years I am going to miss the food, best food in eastern ky for a high school sporting event. Looking forward to great game.

Boy ain't that the truth. If I was scheduling games we would play based on concessions. In the last 15 years I have ate at every concession stand on the Ohio and Big Sandy rivers and Raceland ranks in the top ten. Like dinner and a movie. The Raceland folks work very hard on their program from flag to varsity. LC Quarterback Club has a tailgate that is open and free to anyone and is always loaded with many homemade goodies. So all you Rams come on in and graze before the game. You are going to need the fuel for this game!! Right by the front gate. Of course tips are always appreciated. The LC concession stand is ran by the youth league as a fundraiser, so be sure and try out their fare.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Lawrence County scored more than 17, I just think that Raceland's defense will make some big plays to hold LC to a lower than usual total. And don't take my comment as a lack of respect for either program when I mentioned that I thought that emotions might cause a few flags. When you take teenagers and put them in a big game, sometimes emotions could cause them to do things out of the ordinary. Should be an excellent game, wish I could watch it!

I never said he played in the secondary, (safety or corner) but I do consider a linebacker as a defensive back, especially an outside linebacker.

Yes I do! Did you see any games last year. Kiser was lights out on defense. Loves to hit and knows how to wrap up. IMO one of the best tacklers on the defense last year and who is this super QB in the defensive backfield you speek of?

Eager to see how this one is going to pan out. Lawrence Co has already played a district opponent and rival of Raceland in Fairview and barely came away with a victory. That was a couple of weeks ago and Im sure Lawrence has improved by then but we get somewhat of a measuring stick of how good Raceland is in this one...
I also am interested if some people from Raceland are satisfied with the way Raceland has played so far this year? I mean I am use to Raceland blowing Greenup Co out of the water but a 25-0 win has me puzzled.

It is all about matchups. No one expected Lawrence to beat Raceland last year but for whatever reason we match up well with the Rams. Look at our game against Fairview last year, they beat us even though we had our chances to win that game, then Raceland goes on after our game to beat Fairview pretty easy, even though it was said that the Fairview team was distracted and and knew something bad was comeing from the KHSAA at that point. Just ask this years Belfry team about matchups. They beat the dog s$$t out of every team up to the Pikeville game and then Pikeville shocked the world. I believe with everything in me that Belfry has more depth, speed, size and talent then Pikeville but they just didn't match well with the way Pikeville was playing. I also believe (even though some people disagree) that the being flat thing is real. High school kids sometimes will overlook a team because they are to excited about a game coming up and just don't execute. Sometimes they listen to people way to much who say a game is going to be a blowout and the other team don't stand a chance. That is why I think people who look at the Fairview game to get a feel for the dawg's might be making a mistake. Everyone was thinking that Lawrence would beat Fairview with ease, just go look at the Lawrence-v-Fairview thread, every person on it was thinking we would blow Fairview out including some of the Fairview people. I also think Fairview did some things on the offensive side that took us by surprise and it was an exciting game to see, but the dawg's by no means played their best of the year in that game IMO.
#89
Got to see some film of the Raceland-v-Coal Grove game. Coal Grove was having some success running the ball around the edge. The Dawg's have some pretty good speed in the backfield if they can exploit this.
