Pikeville 29 Belfry 20
I wasn't the only one that was shocked. The whole fooball community in the state of Kentucky is. I'm happy for Pikeville like I said, but they are still not the better team in my opinion. They just were last night.

Pikeville coaching staff and players aren't shocked. And the whole football community doesn't still think Belfry would win 9 out of 10.

Voters are going to be so shocked they will bump Prestonsburg into the top 15. Lol
I watched the replay of the game last night. Pikeville played a great game. Belfry didn't look like Belfry. I guess they had an off game against a really good team. Belfry will be fine. Congrats to Pikeville.

Their fans sure were. And by talking to one of the coaches, yes I would have to say he was very surprised at the way the kids played.

That's what I was trying to say last night. I'm all for giving Pikeville props and I did. But as each Belfry fan watches them game in and game out we tend to notice things that the opposing teams do not. This Team that showed up last night was not the same one that played Henry Clay. If that team with that mindset would have showed up the outcome would have been a different story.

Confusednicker: I love Belfry fans resorting to the "if" game. But as each Pikeville fans watches them game in and game out we tend to notice things that the opposing teams do not. And what I noticed last night was an ass-whipping.

I'm not saying Pikeville wasn't responsible for Belfry not looking like Belfry.
Folks talk about Belfry having no class. Have you seen a Pikeville fan? The majority of belfry fans gave congrats and we just offer our opinion. Yes you all beat the defending 3A champs. 1 out of 14. Congrats again. Against a team that was not playing to their potential. And so what about the WHAT IFS. Every fan base gives them. Just win with class.
b
No, I'm sayin Pikeville WAS NOT responsible for belfry not being Belfry.
Cover3 Wrote:Belfry's offense is based on one the best & most organized running games in Ky HS history, and that is usually enough to get them the win. But if you watch football at any level, can you really expect to beat another good football team that's equally as talented, if you are basically no threat at all to throw the football?

And therein lies the conundrum of Coach Haywood's style. If time were taken to develop a competent passing attack, Belfry would no longer have "the best & most organized running games in Ky HS history". It would simply be impossible to do. Fortunately for the Belfry faithful, it has been counteracted in recent history by Belfry's ability to attract the best linemen and RB/LB in a wide area (Belfry consistently fields a more talented team than its opponent).

That's all my own opinion, of course.

You make a post like this and say Pikeville fans have no class?????

irishcard16 Wrote:The counter to this which is the same when someone stifles the offense of the Pirates. LACK OF VERSATILITY! On the play you are speaking of linebackers were still 5 yards off the ball with safeties still behind them? Why? What are they protecting against on 4th and goal at the 1? Running a 5-2 defensive scheme why are the linebackers not up in the gaps between the nose guard and the D tackles with the safeties in behind to read the play and fly in over the top TO STOP A SHORT YARDAGE PLAY. I love our program as much as anyone and am our biggest fan but I am also realistic. Out system works when
1. You have better athletes
2. Play an unfamiliar opponent

Our system struggles when you play teams that have played us multiple times and have similar or better athletes, watch any game film when we have played the likes of Pburg, Johnson Central, Breathitt, Sheldon Clark, Mike Holcomb is the best I've seen at neutralizing the attack of the Pirates.

Defensively how can you expect a secondary to stop a passing attack when from the time they are raised through the feeder system they never face a passing threat. How can you expect these young men to have the ball skills required to stop the high octane passing attacks that everyone now runs? This same theory can be applied to our passing game, why get mad or angry when we drop a pass or throw a bad pass? I mean really what should we expect from these kids?

Very astute !!
VoR_58 Wrote:HC would destroy Pikeville. Even though Pikeville won this game I still think Belfry is the better team. If they played this game 10 times this year Belfry would win 9 of them. Huge props to Pikeville, but I do think a little luck was involved. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season though. As I am a fan of all Pike County schools.

In close games, luck is ALWAYS a factor. It's fickle, but it's always part of the outcome.

Band, cheerleaders and dance team did a great job as they always to. Pikeville definitely won the battle of the crowds which is awesome considering it is Pond Creek Nation.

I mentioned them. Reminded me of a late 80s early 90s Pikeville/Belfry game. Kindve had that feel to it. Wouldn't you agree?
well its time to move on for Belfry this I just once in a 15 yr thing, its going happen to the best off them, coach Haywood will get there attention and they will be just fine..
Do-double-gg Wrote:A few people said that Belfry was flat, is that true. I think that Pikeville is a threat to go to Bowling Green in 1a, but I just don't understand this game.
Belfry flat wore every team to this point out like a very good 6a Henry Clay.
One would think that a championship caliber 3a team would beat a 1a team even if they are a 1a championship team by at least 2 scores even on a bad night. Has the gap in the Mountain classes started to close some. You got Pikeville beating Belfry and Middlesboro beating Bell and...............what the heck is going on.:insane: Congrats to Pikeville and I think the game of the year in the mountains will be when Pikeville and Williamsburg clash. I don't believe for 1 second that this is the same Belfry team who came into this game undefeated.

You've got to consider that Pikeville is working it's way back to compete with the Belfrys of the world. May seem shocking to many to hear the outcome of this game. However, there was a time when it was commonplace to hear of it. In the 70's, 80's, & 90's it was
great competition between the two....back and forth. Pikeville started slipping in the 2000 era, but as stated before, this program is coming back to not only compete with Belfry, but a state championship trophy once again.
Diogenes Wrote:It isn't. Catron out, Joplin left, multiple others hurt. Obviously, Pikeville is a good team and earned the win. But this Belfry team has suffered some injuries/defections. It takes time to adjust.

That is true and understandable. But on the other hand, Pikeville has five or six out because of injuries that would start, or at least contribute as far as depth is concerned. This team may be even more dangerous later in the season, and playoff time. Truly believe Belfry is going to be ok , and will be right there again in BG for the 3-a championship. Just hope the Panthers are there as well. GREAT celebration for Pike Co. if both bring back the hardware.
I see a lot of classy Belfry fans, and see that that all the arrogant ones are sore losers and cant admit defeat.
Here is my take on the game. Two very good teams that palyed hard and neither played their best game. Both made mistakes and turnovers. It is simple the game was won by controlling the line of scrimmage. Pikeville controlled it most of the night. Esp on offence. There is a reason Pugh is one of the top rushers in the state. The whole team blocks very well and stays on the blocks. If you put 8 in the box we have a QB that can make the throw and they love single coverage on Estep.

Next: This team is on a MISSION... They have had a goal all year and really every since this group of Juniors and Seniors were starting as Freshmen and Sophmores of going to BG. It was said when they were getting beat-up as Fresh/Soph watch out when they get older. Now they are older with a lot of big game experience. This has been a group that never gives up or even seam to get tired. They play hard all the time. This group has always worked hard year round and it is paying off. The main thing I am saying is this team is hungry, they have the fire and they want to make history. If they keep it up I can see them reaching their goal....

I've yet to see you contribute anything meaningful or constructive to any football conversation on this site. Pikeville played a great game and deserved the win, I will be pulling for them to make it to BG. At the end of the day you're still just a sad little man sitting behind a keyboard trolling a high school football message board. I really hope you're just a teenager. If not, well then that's just sad. But hey keep on trolling, whatever helps you sleep at night. Good game Panthers.

I'm not here to entertain you. your unbeatable team got hammered.accept it.

I don't give a damn what you're here for I just know it's not to discuss high school football. I know my team lost, and I've already accepted it and moved on to next week. You're a little punk ass wannabe who gets his rocks off by stirring shit with teams that have nothing to do with you or your respective school wherever that may be. Accept that.

if you accepted it you wouldn't still be whining and attempting to insult. I don't work for ESPN so I'm not here to give you expert analysis.you're right though.I do love it when arrogant fans like you are defeated. I dont take this seriouslySmile
Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

I had to get that out.

Maybe this will humble some of you nut huggers.

Congratulations to the Pikeville Panthers on your win. Well deserved and very well earned. You all played an awesome game plan and stuck to it. You whipped Belfry in all aspect of the game IMO. I told my wife in 1st quarter that Belfry was beat. Was extremely impressed with your ball team and fans and the heart that you all displayed, something Belfry did not IMO. I felt the Pirates played with very little heart or emotions and it showed on the field. No excuses from me, things happen on the field an calls goes this way or that, but the Panthers deserved their win. So congrats from this Pirate fan. My hat goes off to ya.
Somebody (55?) please please tell those idiots on that other site (you know the one where you have to pass an @sshole test to post on) that Belfry's #1 and #2 backs being out is false? :eyeroll:
:lmao:

We had a surplus, we knew that Belfry has a past history of burning them..... so we ordered extra.
