Pikeville 29 Belfry 20

OutlawJoseyWales Wrote:Congratulations to Pikeville.....they played a great game. They came into it with a solid game plan and executed very well. Definitely wanted it much more than the Pirates.

That being said......I do believe Belfry was exposed tonight. Whether they were simply flat.....or simply unprepared....probably a little of both. However.....Belfry didn't look like a very good team tonight.....no disrespect to Pikeville.....but they're not going anywhere playing the way they did tonight.

The Defensive line simply got no push....and the LB's looked slow on their reads. Pikeville is a good team....but certainly no world beaters....and for Belfry to lay such an unimaginable egg is telling. No fire....no emotion...no real effort..No psychological push from Coach Haywood's halftime talk and adjustments.

Believe it shows a lack of leadership.....and that's something many of us Belfry followers discussed during the offseason. This is a relatively young team......and they're not hungry......

Whether or not this team is capable of regrouping and gaining their lost focus over the next few weeks remains to be seen.
I agree to a point. Belfry probably came into this game a little overconfident and who could blame them? Heck most of the people from Pikeville didn't expect this game to be close, I don't care what they're saying now. Considering that this senior class was in little league the last time Pikeville got within 4 TDs of them in a High School game, that's understandable. But nobody can get his players to learn from a loss like Haywood. Belfry will be back in Bowling Green this year and hopefully Pikeville will be down there with them.
All I can say is ( WOW ) ... I ll eat my crow and like it . Huge win for the panthers . Congrats .

NO !!

If Belfry was truly dysfunctional, there would have been grumblings before now. One loss does not mean there "has to be something wrong with Belfry's players". A loss is just that - a loss. And a loss to a quality opponent doesn't give fans license to cast aspersions on its team's effort.

Are you so spoiled by Belfry's success that you believe a loss MUST be lack of effort/what-have-you on the player's/coach's part ?

Rhetorical question, right?

PHSForever Wrote:Lol. Had to respect Sani's (and others) ability to throw at least some previously. Couldn't load the box. What were the passing stats for Belfry tonight? It's a whole different game when one aspect of the O doesn't threaten or make you have to game plan for it. Pikeville had the DB's to cover WR's one on one, so they were able to stack the box. Plus the DB's were able to peek into the backfield and assist on run stopping. While you may have been technically "accurate" regarding slow reactions, etc, there was a REASON for it. Some people "objectively" analyze, and fool themselves into believing it.

Hey....you guys won. I congratulated the panthers. Played a great ball game. But if you were at the game....watched it.....analyzed it.....and came away with the notion that Belfry is a great team right now.....then.............oh well.........

Belfry is a long way from being a great team right now......and the more our kids hear that..........the better off they'll be........

As I stated.....the panthers exposed us......take it as a compliment

I guess it was...forgot the team of which he's a fan. I need to listen to myself instead of preach.

You're almost there... Just realize NO TEAM is a "great team" 5 games into a season. Say THAT if you're feeling it after the game in Bowling Green.

The Jackson/ Copley era (Otherwise known as "The Dark Ages" around here) was responsible for much of it.

He's just being objective.
I will do more tmrw, but I just wanted to say that you have to give credit to Belfry. Not until that clock hit 0:00 did I truly realize how much that win meant to PHS. And the magnitude of the win underscores how impressive the Belfry program has been. That being said, this win is immeasurable for what it has done and will do for the program. Pikeville needed this. And this will always rank up there for me as the best nights as a Panther fan! Who knows what happens 9 out of 10 times, all I know is one this 1 night the Panthers WERE the better team. No doubt. Congrats to BHS on the great run and you have to respect the program, but tonight I could not be more proud to be a PHS Alum! The streak is over! HAIL PIKEVILLE!

I was there. Analyzed it, watched it, the whole nine yards. And the fact is that if you are truly being objective, you will see that Belfry is a very good team with a weakness that no doubt Haywood will fix. But I would never presume to think that any other team didn't see that on film too, just didn't have the players to take advantage of it. Pikeville did. And won because TONIGHT they were the better team, and the better coached team TONIGHT. I even made a comment in the 2nd qtr about how much clock Coach Mac was using, giving his D a rest and the lack of huddling limited Belfry subbing, which shortened the bench to Pikeville's advantage. Another poster made the comment that a QB change might need to be in the works. I agree. The QB for Belfry has excellent vision and would be a great Ben Maynard type of player for Belfry. I still fully expect Belfry to challenge for the 3a title.

Finally you get it......our kids do think they"re a great team!

Congratulations.....you get the prize.

While it is certainly no excuse, the last two weeks the enthusiasm seems down for us. I definitely think it comes down to believing the hype. Kinda like Bama vs. Oklahoma last year, at first it's "you're flat" but then it's "uh, you're getting your tail whipped" ... Matter of pride, my friends! Tonight the boys in maroon had a little (or a lot) more. We will get better from it.

We can debate the whole good team concept. I gave props to your staff.....I thought they did an excellent job of scheming.....clock management and the such. Even though I thought Pikeville's staff lost some focus regarding clock management in 2nd half.

Belfry was a better team week 1. Which is somewhat odd considering Belfry's track record. I could take the position that we're great and its just a bump in the road.....but honestly......it may not be. No disrespect intended. Time will tell.
I didn't figure it would take long for the Corbett to QB, Taylor to HB/WR talk to rumble up. I'm torn on that issue. Keaton is deadly running option!

We've gotten so thin in the backfield.....I really hope we consider that transition.
Why did the Joplin kid leave?
Congrads Pikeville... Statement win here and a lot of eyes are and will be on Pikeville.
HAIL PIKEVILLE! Wrote:Why did the Joplin kid leave?

apparently...style of play.... But only getting 11 carries in 3 games could not have helped.

not being critical with that statement. Coach Haywood has adopted the multiple back, multiple touches and has been very successful with it. Just Think Joplin was looking for many many more carries per game
Congrats to Pikeville. Coach McNamee and company put together an awesome game plan to slow down Belfry. Pikeville controlled the game and kept Belfry's offense on the sideline. Pikeville was better in EVERY phase of tonight's game.
