It isn't. Catron out, Joplin left, multiple others hurt. Obviously, Pikeville is a good team and earned the win. But this Belfry team has suffered some injuries/defections. It takes time to adjust.

Pikeville had at least 3 players out that I know of. With depth more at a premium than it is a Belfry, the injured player excuse is played out. Keep chewing, the crow don't taste better, but it gets easier to swallow.

Double G. From what I can tell henry Clay has been scoring like crazy since their loss to Belfry. To me that says a lot that Belfry was extremely flat. Not taking any thing away from Pikeville they played a heck of a game and time managment was critical. Like I said before McNamee controlled this game. This is definitive not the same belfry team from the previous 3 weeks.

The DANGER of this kind of thinking and can sabotage the VALUE to be found in a loss is... it's possible it was Henry Clay who was "flat" in its game with the Pirates instead of Belfry "flat" tonight vs. the Panthers. Consider that.

I'm upset that this one isn't out of hand yet...

Pikeville and Belfry have been here before. These two schools, while bitter rivals, have a mutual respect for one another. This isn't Alabama/Auburn where people are poisoning trees. I was talking some to some Belfry fans after the game and we were both wishing each other luck the rest of the season. I saw Pikeville fans patting Belfry players on the helmet and telling them to keep their heads up and that they were still a good team. That's how the 2 programs that put mountain football on the map do it. Good Luck the rest of the year Pirates and HAIL PIKEVILLE!!!

There was no push because the focus was containment. A big push would open the end runs. The LBs slow on the reads means they were holding their gaps. Football 101 against Belfrys offense. Pikeville had the speed to slow down and make the right reads, then speed up and gang tackle. Don't insult the boys by trying to pass it off as Belfry having no fire or hunger. All I've read from posters like 1991#8 is how Belfry looks forward to "beating us bad" and so forth. For a solid week it has been like that. Now it's "oh, no fire, no hunger. Wail! We've seen this and talked about it for a while now". Just hush and enjoy the crow compliments of the county champs this year. Need a little more salt to make it palatable? Read below:

I got no crow. I'm a born and bred Johnson Central fan. I used to argue with people back in the OLD days (like 2000) about JC vs Pikeville on the OLD BG Preps. (Good memories. I got banned more than once.) But I know Belfry will be fine. I suspect Pikeville will be too. While it's definitely an exultable result, I doubt the Belfry heart was carved out and eaten.

Wasn't intending this personally to you (about the predictions, that is), but the "we had no fire" and "no leadership", and especially casting doubt on their ability to "regroup and gain lost focus" statements are awfully heavy (and hardly "objective", it was your opinion only) to lay on a team -only because- they came out on the low end of a game score.

Not going to pursue this any more. It just irks me when a team is accused of all kinds of shortcomings just because they played someone better on a given night.

Lol. Had to respect Sani's (and others) ability to throw at least some previously. Couldn't load the box. What were the passing stats for Belfry tonight? It's a whole different game when one aspect of the O doesn't threaten or make you have to game plan for it. Pikeville had the DB's to cover WR's one on one, so they were able to stack the box. Plus the DB's were able to peek into the backfield and assist on run stopping. While you may have been technically "accurate" regarding slow reactions, etc, there was a REASON for it. Some people "objectively" analyze, and fool themselves into believing it.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned on here is the Pikeville crowd tonight. Fanstastic. Huge crowd, very loud and into the game. Student section was awesome as always. Band, cheerleaders and dance team did a great job as they always to. Pikeville definitely won the battle of the crowds which is awesome considering it is Pond Creek Nation.
