Ryle 50 Conner 22 Final
#1
Final
#2
Conner scored on the opening kick due to blown kickoff coverage from Ryle. The second Score wasn't terrible play by Conner but the third was there varisty against our JV.

Ryle went into half 21-14 due mostly to poor blocking and defensive mistakes. But put it together in the second half as the varisty D allowed 1 first down and Ryle's O ran the ball at will all over Conner.

I must say in the first half I was worried I was wrong about our team but the second half helps me believe that Districts will be competitive this year.

Hopefully Ryle has learned from the first half mistakes as they cannot make those against our District Rivals.

Overall very happy with our performance and look forward to next Friday. District will be competitive from what I've seen so far this season.

SK basically untested because there competition is 0-14 (but they are 4-0 and have blown each team out)
Campbell has played solid and beat a good Cooper team tonight 17 - 7
Boone has rebounded well
Dixie is playing strong ball right now

Time for some changes at Conner?

After Conner took the lead on the opening kickoff, Ryle controlled the game against its county rivals to give Mike Engler his first win as Raiders head coach, 50-22. The longtime assistant from Lexington Catholic had lost his first three games, and his first game against the Cougars sent the home team to an 0-3 start.

"It's great," Engler said. "We'll enjoy this tonight and then go right back to watching film tomorrow. We have a lot to work on."

Ryle junior running back Colin England had more than 200 yards rushing on the night, including two punishing touchdown runs of 48 and 39 yards. The second score gave Ryle a 29-14 lead early in the second quarter. Sophomore Cole Burch had more than 100 rushing yards on the night, including a TD rush. Mitchell Bateman added two TDs for Ryle, and Ryan Rytlewski threw a 26-yard TD pass to Grant Arnwine, who made a leaping grab at the pylon and kept one foot in bounds. Rytlewski also had a TD rush.

Conner senior Isaiah Ebarb started the game with a kickoff return score up the left sideline. Ryle responded right away with a six-play, 62-yard drive to knot up the score less than three minutes into the game. England had a 31-yard and 12-yard rush in the drive, and Rytlewski scored from a yard out for the TD.

"I tell them you will all face adversity at some point," Engler said. "I can't ask for a better situation than for them to score and then be able to drive right back and score ourselves. That's the makings of a championship team."

On Ryle's next drive, the Raiders scored on their first play, Arnwine's tough TD grab, to take the lead with 7:18 to go in the period.
Conner responded with an 86-yard scoring drive to tie the game in the second period. England gave Ryle the lead for good with two minutes left in the half, breaking a pair of tackles on his way for a 48-yard score. He had a 22-yard gain two plays earlier.
"He had some injuries earlier in the year and didn't play as much," Engler said.
"He's got the potential. When he wants to, he can take over a game.
Ryle is installing a new offensive system in Engler's fast-paced spread attack, which annually produced a lot of passing yards at Lexington Catholic.

"I believe in it," Arnwine said. "We just need to get better and execute better as players….all three of our running backs were amazing and our offensive line did a great job."

Ryle 14 .... 7 ... 22 ... 7 -50

congrats boys and coaches on your first win. watching us run the ball showed everyone what this team should be. the fun and gun is not for our 2 quarterbacks that cant make decisions or check down receivers. yes we completed some passes against a young not very good team, and we beat them as we should have. game should have been over at halftime. give the coach a hall pass, hes still learning to be a HC. why does ryle continuously not put their best athletes on special teams? isnt that the way varsity football is meant to be played? the easiest passes look difficult for us. pound the ball and soften things up and take your passing attempts but please coach watch your own teams film! watching our receiver routes i think the receivers coach needs to hold them accountable for running crisp and decisive routes (the right routes) even if its a run play it will only help a struggling QB. in the first half with a team trying to get you your first win why would anyone onsides kick or go on 4th with that field position? yes your defense stepped up again, but how about throwing them a bone and pin our opponents deep? just under a minute in the half and all you can draw up is a hail mary with a QB that waits until the receivers are covered and then throws the ball. how about some quick outs or up the middle and give your kicker a shot, he had how many touchbacks? enough NEG ?s. it was great to see our boys man-up after another bad start. showed alot of character keeping heads up and taking the lead back right away. our backs looked great and man is it fun to watch 11 hit a hole without hesitation. passing we completed a few passes, the dropped screen would have resulted in a huge play or touchdown as it was setup perfectly with the middle wide open. other than the one drive the D was really solid again and will need to be to keep us in games moving forward. watching the body language and excitement on the boys faces was awesome to see. definately something we were all in need of. positive momentum going into district play came at a good time. lets go boys keep it going!

I may be wrong but I think that was the first over 200 yard performance since Elliot

Good job Ryle you beat a peewee team! Big Grin

Actually Ryan Hill ran for 250 vs. Dixie in 2011 and Davis ran for 198 against Boone in 2011. Glad to see them run the ball. Will slow teams down from sending the house when you pass the ball every play. I pick Ryle to win big and glad they did. Have another chance to win this week. Also congrats to Coach Engler on his first win as a head coach.

Does that make Holy Cross a Tee Ball team??

Ryan got player of the week for that. I forgot about that, good call. 2011 We've definitely had a drought. Hope to see many more. The balance kept the ball moving!

could you go beat yourself. Pun intended.

Glad to see the balance, I think that is crucial for their success this year. They have good running backs. The running game will also help the QB with the pressure teams brought early on.
