Is Ashland REALLY this bad? I would've thought they'd be a legitimate 4A top-10 team and probably favorite for the district given the star power and experience they return. What the heck is wrong with this ship??!? Don't get me wrong, I'm about as far from an Ashland fan as you can possibly be, but this is absolutely stunning. Is it coaching? Conditioning, lack of weight room work, lack of chemistry, in-fighting? This is a Russell team that beat Greenup County 15-8. Greenup County barely fields anything recognizable as a football team. What gives? This is three subpar to terrible efforts in a row.

Russell is learning a new offense and the final of the Greenup game was 22-15.

Big win for Russell! I'm still not sure what to think about either team, is Russell that far ahead of where they should be in this stage of the transition or is Ashland just not as good as everyone said they were gonna be.

Probably a little of both.

My bad, I left out some of the offensive fireworks for both teams; still, it was a single touchdown game. Congrats, Devils, for sure on tonight's result. But you gotta wonder...is that ship about to sink? The Tomcats get Ironton next, and unless there's a drastic turnaround...it may be a real nightmare on Elm Street for a certain head coach at this rate.

Harry Rex Vonner, I know you are probably already asleep after reading another Grisham novel but I am applauding your efforts over the last couple of days of trying to wake these Ashlandites up to the fact that their sports teams are way over rated. Congrats TJ Maynard and Russell Red Devils! Big win in the era of TJBall.

Russell is good. Ashland lost and fading fast but theirs still time to right the ship and if they don't still love the CATS and always will. Congrats Russell you played the hardest and the best deserved to win the game.

I agree it could be a long night for Ashland against Ironton.

Radio said Nick Conley had somewhere around 214 yards rushing.

If Raceland doesn't botch the game Ashland is 0 and 3.And if it was not for a pond in the middle of Putnam maybe 0 and 4.Ashland is just not that good.

Obviously not very good. Russell isn't very good either. Or Greenup. Jury's still out on Raceland with everyone else sucking.

As Dandy Don Meredith used to sing years ago at the end of a Monday Nnght NFL game:

"Turn out the lights. The party's over."

That line sums it us quite well and I am not just referring to one football game. The ship sunk in its home port. Mr. E. Mann is a prophet.

Win, lose or draw and no matter who your team is you can count on a Belfry fan stinking up the thread.:flush:

I'm still puzzled with Raceland, maybe we'll find out a little bit more next week against Coal Grove, of course, I'm not sure how good they are either, sheesh.

Baker has no lack of talent. But is he being used to maximize it? Is the system geared to get him one on one on the edge to use his speed and make big plays? I haven't seen the first games in person, but I've listened to parts of them, and it certainly doesn't SOUND like it. We know he's not going to run people over, and perhaps he doesn't really care for getting hit too much, but he's got speed that few (if any) in EKY have. With some muscle and some toughness and some coaching up, he's a D-1 back. All these things can be acquired. He has the things you can't teach.

Good win for the devils tonight. Russell is improving and could be a pretty good team by the end of the year.
#29
YEEEEE HAWWWWW!!!!!! WAY TO GO DEVILS!!!!! When things were not going well you didn't fold, kept your heads high and fought through everything!!!! Great coaching, great execution and nothing but class from a great school and program. A lot of schools could do well to learn a thing or two from Russell High School, their fans, coaches and players!!!!

Great game. Russell kept Baker in check most of the night. Nick Conley had a great night running the ball for Russell. I had no idea that Russell could correct so many things in just four days. They had a couple of bone headed plays on pass coverage but I'm sure they will get that corrected. NO PERSONAL FOULS. I picked Ashland to win this game and will eat my crow along with everyone else. Ashland was a big favorite. Love those Devils
