Final.
Honestly, pretty close game, Whitley just couldn't ever catch up.
Harris is an animal as we all know. BUT, MS better hope and pray he doesn't go down.

We were getting updates from this game at HC. At one point in time, Whitley County was leading the game. It sounded like a lot closer game than the score indicates.
So congratulations to both teams!! Madison Southern for their win, and Whitley County for playing a great game!

Harris was just to quick. To be honest, if you take out Harris, I think Whitley picks up the win. Harris is like a specialist. They only use him when they need him and they never sweat it because they know he'll get it.
Whitley led in this one for a while. Passed the ball really well, but changed there gameplan at halftime and started running on 1st and 2nd down. Not a very smart move.
0-1 start to the year, but it took the best running back in the country to do it. Ysidro being out also hurt. I think he makes his debut next week.

Harris is a phenomenal running back; hands down. I didn't realize that Ysidro didn't play tonight.

How many yards and TDs did Harris have??

Stats:
Whitley
137 Passing
110 Rushing
237 total yards
Madison Southern
432 Rushing
97 Passing
Harris: 13 Carries for 257 Yards and Two TD's.
The Dean kid might of had more yards, they faked to Harris a lot early in the 1st setting up Dean for clear lanes as Whitley was keying on Harris.
I think in the first qtr, MS had something like runs of 50, 60, and 70 yards, the Whitley settled down.
First, when is the last time Whitley had more passing yards than rushing yards in a game, and second, when is Whitley going to get somebody to run the defense

Ysidro has had a foot injury.
I heard he was only going to be out for two weeks, and I hope that's still true.
If Ysidro plays at Bell County, im picking Whitley to win that one. No joke.

Sounded like Whitley played a good game. Congrats to Madison Southern.

The Colonels hung in there early but Harris was to good...Hats off to Luke Woods, he was outstanding in the first half...Harris stitting most of the 3rd qr was puzzling, don't understand him not being on the field...

They don't use him until there stuck.

Whitley gave a good effort for a young team. I think Ysidro will be out until game 4.

If Ysidro plays, I think Whitley would be the favorite over Rock.
If he doesn't, I think its pretty much dead even.
Ysidro is about twice the size he was as a frosh when he started QB. More like a big bruiser FB now.

I know Harris is Superman, but didn't they lose just about everybody else?
I had my doubts about them being picked to win the region by some, but after seeing what Harris did in the fourth quarter last year at Harlan County I guess they are still dangerous.

Dean is a heck of a back to. He would be the number one guy at Whitley, but doesn't get the rep that Harris obviously does. The problem lies in MS's defense. They had an extremely hard time stopping Whitleys passing game.
It really baffles me why Whitley went to the run more in the second half. They were beating MS down with the passing game until mid way through the second when they started changing it up. Whitley had 5 or 6 different Receivers catch a ball in the first half. Half of them are first year players who play basketball. The Sasko kid and Barton kid will be really dangerous later on in the year. Once Ysidro is back in the backfield to put up a good rushing threat, it will open the air up more for the passing game. Whitley was about 50/50 in balance in the first half and it worked really well. This was a 6 point ball game right before halftime.
MS will have to have a perfect game to beat Pulaski. Ive got a feeling Hall will throw for 300 on MS. If MS wanted to, they could give Harris about 30 touches a game and he could break every state record in the book, but they wont. I don't know if its fear of injury, or screwing up any potential scholarships, but the kid is literally unfair to play against. Whitley didn't have the horses to keep him locked down, and when they did, they gave it to Dean who broke free. I think teams like Harlan County have a chance against Madison Southern, because to be honest, Whitley did, BUT, in order to do so, they need to score a lot of points and hope MS makes mistake, which they did tonight. MS had 2 or 3 turnovers, but Whitley couldn't turn them into points.
There line play and defense will cost them later on in the year.

i give luke woods a lot of credit he was pressured every pass he threw but he has a johnny manzel like ability to extend plays and make something happen... despite the loss tonight if whitley line gives woods some more time to make the reads they will win a lot of games this year.
i also give coach chappell and his coaches credit they have good numbers out and they had the players playing hard every down.
if harris didn't play whitley would have won and this is coming from a williamsburg fan

I watch the 1st half and I was very proud of Whitley county tonight....An Luke woods is a special player he's hard to catch in the backfield....Harris is Awesome for Madison Southern....

If Madison southern is not very good defensively, is it safe to say that Pulaski Co will destroy them ?
08-30-2014, 02:30 PM
Luke Woods drove MS crazy in the first half. In the second half their ends stayed and did not Luke get outside them. That changed the game. Whitley needs Ysidro back to give them an inside threat. Luke is worth the price of admission. Harris is other worldly. Why he got less than 15 touches is hard to imagine. If he is not running I would leave him in as a decoy.
