On a 2 point conversion Pikeville takes the lead and gets the one point win 30-29

4th & short for Prestonsburg on the Pikeville 30? and instead of giving it to Frasure, they pass and turn the ball over on downs. Blackcats were up 29-22.
Then the offsides on Prestonsburg on the XP, which give Pikeville the ball on the 1 and Pikeville punched it in to secure the win.
Prestonsburg led 29-15 heading into the 4th quarter.
Congrats to Pikeville. Made the plays late.
Keep your heads up Blackcats. You guys played hard and I'm sure you'll bounce back next week.

Unbelievably awful playing calling down the stretch by the P-burg coaching staff. The kids did not lose this game. The coaches did.

No way pikeville should have won..But congratulations to pikevile from Williamsburg nation and 64SUR :howdy:

Prestonsburg should have stuck with the passing game the second half instead of running the ball trying to kill clock.

I wouldn't say that. Pikeville turned the ball over 4 times and was still in the game.
Two evenly matched teams.

Poor clock management by Prestonsburg, came back to bite the blackcats in the butt. It was 3rd and long with about 1:30 seconds to go, when Prestonsburg decided to pass the ball instead of running 40+ seconds off the clock, due to Pikeville having no timeouts. If they run the ball, Pikeville doesn't score with twelve seconds remaining, and Prestonsburg pulls out the win. Also, you have to give credit to the Panthers for never giving up, and grinding out a win. Good luck to both teams on the remainder of the season.

Pikeville couldn't stop the run in the 4th quarter. It was 4th and 2 and they go 5 wide and throw it. If they kick a field goal right there the game is over. If they run the ball and get the first down the game is probably over.

Fun game too watch. Both teams played hard and made correctable mistakes that will improve them when adjustments are made. I expected the blackcats to have some bigger guys. Pikeville wore them down in the last stages of the game.

I was a little surprised there wasn't a false start on the tailback on that two point conversion. He took a full step towards the line before the ball was snapped. *disclaimer* not a PBurg fan. Was just watching the live stream.

Congrats to the Panthers on a hard fought game. Could have gone either way, imo, Panthers made the adjustments and looked better in the 2nd half. The Blackcats are going to be a very tough out down the road. Best of luck Blackcats.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks the play calling cost the blackcats! Trying to run the ball at the wrong time, passing when they should have been running. Hard game for a black cat fan to watch at the end!

Actually, I think it was on the 25 (I think?). But in any case, the short pass was open and delivered into Frasure's hands. He simply started running before securing it. Just one of those things.
But really both teams come away from this one with PLENTY to work on.
Very entertaining start of the season !!

A tough loss .

Sounds like two good teams playing a nail biter. Both teams should come out of this one with high hopes. Congrats to Panthers.

Missed the game because I was at Bristol. Sounds like my Panthers never gave up and pulled out a tough win! HAIL PIKEVILLE!

First off hats off to pburg for a great game, theyre def a top 5 team in 2A. Second, the fight of this panther squad is amazing! They believed in themselves and fought to make it happen. Cant wait for PCB! HailPikeville!

Congrads Pikeville and its a tough loss for P-burg to be up and really throw the ball on a 4th and 1 when you got a back like P-burg has. That right there is a Perry Central move.

One of the greatest high school games I've ever witnessed. Teams were basically evenly matched anywhere you looked. Have to love the Panthers heart and will to win when things aren't looking the greatest from their standpoint.
On a side note, the run by Pugh when his helmet popped off was an absolute boss of a run!

Good win pikeville! I really thought Pburg would be the real deal this year.

Looked like both teams were rusty. Gotta get it going. I gave up when Pville was down by two scores. I didn't think they would pull it out and quit watching.
08-24-2014, 09:27 AM
Congrats Pikeville. I really thought Prestonsburg would win this one. I guess that's why they play the game.

As I stated before. I wasn't at the game Saturday, but I was there at the start of the game Friday before the storm blew in. Could someone please tell me why P-Burg wouldn't take the field before the game? Was it gamesmanship by Derossett? Was he wanting to run on the field the same time Pikeville fan out of the big helmet? What was Derossett trying to prove here? That his team could wait with the best of them? If the refs have to come over and force you to take field before the home team like every football game since the beginning of time, it should be an automatic 15 yard unsportsman like conduct penalty assessed on the kickoff. Funny, I don't remember Coach Mac making our boys line up next to P-Burgs tunnel last year when we visited them...But then again Coach Mac is the epitome of class and Derossett is the epitome of class...minus the first 2 letters....But the good guys won in the end so I'm happy....HAIL PIKEVILLE!!!...

Love seeing Pikeville pull this one out.
I like both teams but Pikeville is the team I like better.
Good luck to both teams in game #2.

Not faulting Jarrell, just pointing it out. Not all on Frasure.

Someone posted the kids didn't lose this, the coaches did. Can't say I agree with it. On the pass to Frasure, he was open, it was a good play call in hindsight, just an execution issue/first game issues you tend to expect.
Someone else said Pikeville couldn't stop the run in the 2nd half, then another said we couldn't stop the pass. Guys, you're not giving credit where it is due. The WR for Pburg ran some really crisp routes to get open, and Jarrell's shiftiness kept the plays alive to make those passes happen. Credit to Pburg, they will be a tough out for anyone the rest of the season. I'm happy that with the exception of I think two designed run plays, Pikeville didn't really allow a breakout run. With a strong back like Frasure, containment and gang tackling/wrapping up is key. That is what Pikeville did. I'd also LOVE to see a replay of Pugh's run for Pikeville that got called back because his helmet came off. That had the potential to be a real back breaker. Also curious why he lost his helmet 3 times in the game. Hmmm .
But it was a fun game, definitely worth the price of admission and the delay to play. Pikeville had 2 starters out, I believe. I know one for sure. It is a great day to be a Panther, looking forward to the rest of the season!

I kept waiting for them to go ahead and run on the field. Prestonsburg coach needs to grow up a little. I didn't have a problem with them lining up to run on the field, especially since it was a TV game, just thought they should have separated themselves a little more and run on first like every visiting team does. Guess ol' John wanted to show off more for the YMT reporters. :biglmao:

By the way, got to meet #1 Blackcat Fan last night. Classy guy, had a good time discussing the game back and forth. I thought he was going to have a heart attack the last minute and a half. nicker:

lol... Maybe Pugh is wearing a helmet one size too big. The P-burg defense was gang tackling him (like the Pikeville defense went after Frasure). And during gang tackling someone is going to end up with his arms around the runners head.
Pugh is a load, for sure !!
