Ashland AD, he is quite capable of trying to steal the game. Integrity has never been an attribute of those running the Ashland athletic program.
If you pursue a ridiculous forfeit, it just demonstrates how desperate you are for a win. Read my posts. NCC owes you nothing. You should have spent some money on drainage rather than all the silly fluff and crap that, to be honest, impresses no one but your loyalists. And, you shouldn't blow smoke about an alleged email that you can't produce. A team text that all the players got this morning? How silly. It sounds just like Ashland. Class programs with some measure of recent success handle matters in a dignified way. That, T-CATS, obviously doesn't include you boys.

Raceland fans get your tickets as early as possible because all the tickets bought for the forfeited game are good for the Raceland game this week. Won't be a lot of tickets to be had.

Now you are like a chihuahua snipping at the heals of annual power, FTH. How did your boys fare against FTH last year, T-CATS? You lost 56-6 and we all know it could have been worse if FTH hadn't granted some mercy. You need to quit. You are getting more whiny. We all know NCC is far out of your league. Don't embarrass yourself by mentioning FTH or CovCath or anyone else with a real modern day tradition.
And, I have no doubt that you and your AD would try for a forfeit. That is rather typical of Ashland through the years, isn't it? Have someone send your team another team memo. Tell them that only fools would think they were entitled to a forfeit when they can't provide a playable field.

I thought they practiced to play the game. Somebody just doesn't want to play. It could have been worked out. Ridiculous that this game wasn't played somewhere today - Ashland, NCC, Morehead, anywhere. Sad.

May want to look at the KHSAA by laws. Yes it's absurd that a program as good as NCC doesn't wanna play football the next day like half the state is doing or going to do tonight.

And to suggest that your AD go to the KHSAA to get a forfeit for the game last night, is absurd. If NCC hasn't showed up to the game, then that would be grounds for a forfeit, but since mother nature wasn't playing nice last night and your $2.5 million dollar swamp was flooded, game was cancelled......Let it go, MOVE ON!! Newcath only bows down to GOD, not Ashland, your AD or principal.

That argument is void now that there are teams like NCC, DeSales, Caldwell Co in 2A. In 06-09 Raceland wouldhave been competitive in 2A up to Regionals/semis. These days itd be much of the same as it was when NCC, Danville, Beechwood and Lexington Christian were running 1A. The year Russell won state and the following year being runner-up, 2A was down. BUT, that is in no way a jab at Russell and doesnt mean that Raceland could have done what they did. You have to play within the class your in come post season. Russell went out and did what they needed to do and beat all comers minus a very good Mercer Co team (Russell should have wont that game, they were the better team). 2A was weak for awhile. From 2005-2009, IMO the top 4 or 5 teams in 1A would have beaten or been neck and neck with the top 4 or 5 in 2A. That 2006 NCC/Danville probably would have won it.
In regaurds to all the back and forth. If a nuetral site or compensation to NCC, wont get them to come back . Oh well. It would have been a good game, bith teams could have used it as a measuring stick for early in the year. But neither team loses much with missing the game.

If you had properly spent all that money, the game would have been played. The fact that your field doesn't drain is your fault. I'm sure my many friends in Newport, Cold Spring, etc. didn't particularly enjoy coming all the way to Ashland to have to turn around and go home. You boys dropped the ball. Less silly tomcat exhaltation signs and more drainage could have cured the problem.
But, since you didn't show any intelligence in spending your money, don't whine about NCC. They were there. Your boys screwed it up. So why should NCC bail you out. They have much larger fish to fry. They can't back up for you minnows.

while certainly NCC should not forfeit. No field would have been playable outside of an NFL or college stadium. Honestly the game should just be cancelled move on. No reason to waste tax dollars making either team make a second trip

Other than needing to point out that NCC gets no handouts from the tax coffers as do the government schools, I have no problem with tomcatfan72000's post. It is time to move on. Next Friday will be here quickly.

Besides not exactly a fair setup to make NCC travel here then back then here for almost 10-12 hours of travel time then play a game. Imagine had Ashland done this and lost? It would have been embarassing. And if you do this and win? What good does it do to play quality competition at an unfair advantage? Kinda defeats the purpose!!!

Why would anybody want the game to be a forfeit? Both teams done everything they could to play the game. I would rather have a 9 game season than have my kids have a win on their record they didn't earn.
NCC showed up ready to play, if the shoe was on the other foot, I wouldn't won't our team on a bus approximately 12 hours either. I have no ill will towards NCC. Good luck to them the rest of the season.
Yes our new stadium flooded, but had nothing to do with lack of drainage. It was the amount of rain. There where streets in Ashland that have never flooded that flooded last night.

Nailed it. Everyone knows that you can't win a state title if you lose your season opener. NewCath dodged a bullet there. Enjoy the new stadium renovations. Maybe you will get to host a second playoff game in it...next year.

Good observation, Bob Seger. Actually, since Pintos didn't exist in 1964, it makes my post even more relevant. Thank you.

Not takeing up for ashland but Johnson central field wouldn't drain all the water that was comeing down , there was two inchs of water standing on the field , but why couldn't ncc stay in a hotel and play on sat ?

Do you honestly expect all of them to stay overnight in a hotel? The team dresses 63 players, plus coaches and staff. Then you have to consider that they team would have to be fed at least 2 or 3 times, who would pay for all of that? Not to mention, there was no way Putnam was going to be playable the next morning. Did you expect Newcath to sit around all day waiting for it to dry?

I drove over three hours to watch Whitley County play on a field that wasn't drained which was finally postponed due to lightning :biglmao:

This is probably the most relevant post in the whole thread. Thank you, Onespiritedfan, for bringing the real picture to the discussion.
Now, we all need to acknowledge that, once the game was cancelled, it was not at all feasible to try to reschedule it. Maybe we can also admit that talk of a forfeit or that NCC was somehow "afraid" of Ashland was merely silly partisan emotion in the heat of the moment. Move on to next Friday.

People just don't live in the real world it seems..... To have NCC come back the next day would absolutely not be fair. Let's not forget, in no way would that field be playable. To have Ashland come to NKY to play? Don't forget NCC does not have a home field. Newport does not always cooperate to accommodate NCC. NCC may have dodged a bullet. However, that wet field may have been enough to slow baker down and give NCC a chance to win. NCC is already banged up and not playing will give them a chance to get healthy. 5-5 doesn't matter to NCC, they play 4 schools in the next few weeks, all would beat Ashland. They will be 9-5 when they play for a 2A title again. Well, 9-4 now. Cooper, CCHS, simon Kenton and Dixie. For the Ashland fans scratching their heads right now.
08-25-2014, 02:24 PM
Harry Rex Vonner Wrote:Agreed. NCC owes Ashland nothing. Why would NCC ever be afraid of Ashland? Ashland hasn't accomplished anything in the last two plus decades and this year will be no different. Although putrid, the cancellation does somehow give Ashland something to crow about, I suppose. One who has accomplished so little needs to grasp at anything to crow. It is better, I suppose, than getting beat and making excuses.
One fact is certain. NCC doesn't need Ashland. Its goals are much loftier. Ashland, on the other hand, can wait for its annual game at home with little Class 1A Raceland. And maybe "Q", as well as "R", "S", "T", and "U", will also be fired up for the little Rams.
Remember,T-CATS. NCC owes your people nothing. Its goals are much more significant than rearranging its schedule to pacify a mediocre Class 4A team.
If you where in the same region as Highlands and Covington Catholic your success would be limited as well for NCC. I could make strong argument that NCC would not own any state titles in the last two decades in that kind of region. When a team refuses to play, then it is called a forfeit. Ashland deservers better, after all they did all they could to make this game happen on Saturday.

Good job of making excuses for your non-achieving favorites, foxbatone. No one but a poor partisan fool with no understanding of the logistics involved would even entertain the thought that NCC should have come back on Saturday or hung around until Saturday to play the game. Ashland doesn't "deserve better". Ashland doesn't deserve squat.
And, as for state championships, keep in mind that NCC is a Class 2A school and not a Class 4A school. You have no argument. Only sorrow. So pull up those maroon tights and move on.

Good Lord !!! Talk about a nutty thread !!
The weather and playing conditions are not Ashland's fault. The Tomcats play on grass and ALL of eastern KY has clay soil which has problems soaking up heavy rain.
But NCC shouldn't be obligated to spend another 6 hrs on a bus the next day, nor should they be required to lay out the $$ to put the team up for the night.
Unless Ashland's players and coaches offered to put NewCath's players/coaches up in their homes and NCC refused, there's simply no blame in the situation.
What exactly would a forfeit DO for Ashland, anyway ?!?

You are not familiar with the mindset at Ashland, oneijoe. It would count as a "win" and, after all, that is all that counts.
There has been some "talk" that Ashland offered to play the game at Newport. I don't believe that. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Of course, one should keep in mind that, since NCC has no home field and Ashland people know it, any such alleged offer to relocate the game would have been disingenuous.
