The whole ceremony had nothing to do with the cancellation. The fact that a freak severe thunderstorm left the field flooded, prob a good reason to cancel. I do agree that maybe a neutral field between the two would be a nice option for ncc.

Sucks for them to having to travel back home maybe and back down here again tomorrow for a L. Maybe they should Forfeit!!

A relative of mine who lives in Ashland told me that about 2 million dollars had been spent so far on the stadium. Maybe your people should have spent less of the money on maroon and white paint and more on making a field that would drain. I agree that Newport Catholic should control any rescheduling. If I made the choice, I'd just cancel the game. Ashland can have its grand celebration ceremony next Friday and, since the game is of no importance to Newport Catholic, cancelling it is meaningless to them.

Wouldn't have mattered roads in and around the stadium were closed and flooded.

Interesting side note. I was watching Good Morning America (I don't have cable, my choices are limited), they were doing a story about the storms last night and they just showed a flooded Putnam Stadium.
When are they making up the games in the area.

Game is cancelled out Putnam will have to wait till next week to claim it's next victim.

Funny how everyone thinks they canceled the game because we couldn't have the grand opening ceremony! Lol guess you'd have to see the rest if the city to understand why. Then again, they prob wouldn't

Just saw the email from Ashland school principal. Ashland offered to pay their expenses to come back today they said no. Ashland offered to go their and play they said no. Nothing else you can do. They are afraid of the Tomcats. Bring on Raceland.

Good spin. You can always claim that you would have won if the game were played.
Rumor has it that Ironton offered its field to Ashland for the game but that Ashland ignored the request. I have heard that Ashland should have at least graciously acknowledged the "neighborly" offer of its friend across the river. I disagree about the "gracious" part of it..
Ironton has refurbished its field with a fine new surface. However, they haven't played a game on it yet. Now why would Ironton offer Ashland the opportunity to first play on the new surface? That isn't very believable.
I suspect that Ironton wanted to get in a serious dig at Ashland. Ironton would claim that they emphasized the foundational basics while Ashland seemed to emphasize too many frills and eye catchers. Rivals don't usually pass up an opportunity to take a shot, you know. Of course, I could be wrong- but I doubt it.

Spin on, T-CATS. The recent history of the "tradition" of these two schools would tend to indicate that NCC has no reason to "fear" Ashland. Quite the contrary.
Each year NCC starts in August preparing itself for a run at the Class 2A state championship game. As usual, that is its mission this season. Changing its pattern to accommodate another school in order to play a meaningless game makes no sense. Of course, I realize that it is hard for T-CATS and his fellow partisans to understand that fact since their team only plays until it meets either FTH or CovCath to face its annual slaughter.
And, it is always tells us a lot when one school circulates its alleged emails. The top schools wouldn't do wouldn't be so self serving.

NCC needs to man up!

Don't get me wrong, NCC is a great football program. With that said, they need to play the game with Ashland.

Agreed. NCC owes Ashland nothing. Why would NCC ever be afraid of Ashland? Ashland hasn't accomplished anything in the last two plus decades and this year will be no different. Although putrid, the cancellation does somehow give Ashland something to crow about, I suppose. One who has accomplished so little needs to grasp at anything to crow. It is better, I suppose, than getting beat and making excuses.
One fact is certain. NCC doesn't need Ashland. Its goals are much loftier. Ashland, on the other hand, can wait for its annual game at home with little Class 1A Raceland. And maybe "Q", as well as "R", "S", "T", and "U", will also be fired up for the little Rams.
Remember,T-CATS. NCC owes your people nothing. Its goals are much more significant than rearranging its schedule to pacify a mediocre Class 4A team.

Guess what your past doesn't mean anything this season should play the game Ashland tried everything Newport powers that be don't want too. Scared? Who knows but it's ashame and if the shoe was on the other foot you would be all over Ashland for canceling out.

Don't pretend to know what I would do if the situation were otherwise. Good teams (those who challenge year in and year out for state championships) operate on a tight and demanding schedule. NCC must start preparing for two excellent Class 6A teams, Campbell County and Simon Kenton. Those games, unlike Ashland, are important games because they are big schools located in NCC's geographic area. Although neither is a district game, both are rigid tests for NCC in preparing for the playoffs. Ashland was not.
I do agree that it is a shame the rain flooded your facility. But, it may have been a blessing for you. Who wants to have a bunch of pomp and circumstance and then get beat by a school two classes below you. But, now you can drop three classes and play little Raceland at home. That is good scheduling.

This is hilarious. Be careful, you will get ram fans all over you. They will tell you how much tougher 1a schools are than 2a. May be true with Mayfield though

Mayfield could compete well in Class2A. Raceland? Don't be silly.

Stadium can sit 46 47 hundred fans standing room maybe 5 grand. They had sold 2200 tickets by 1 yesterday and sold 4500 by 6 last night guessing they could afford to pay their expenses! Sorry can't post the email but put up a picture of the team text alert that all the players got this morning. Ashland offered to go their and they won't play offered to pay for them to come back here and they won't, someone is afraid to play. Also am wondering since they won't play is it a forfeit and a L. Asked athletic director about it they are checking. NCC might be 0 and 1 and the CATS 1 and 0 without having to play.

Say all you want TC, fact is no one will ever know. Can you please send me an address and contact of who I can talk to about getting a refund? Nah, forget it. It seems you guys will need every penny to fix that drainage issue. You are correct about Baker he is an exceptional talent, but it might be wise to not "over hype" him. You are setting him and the rest of the Tomcats up for some big time smack talk when he does get shut down. Heck, UK might even decide to put the offer if he can't play up to the hype. Don't do that that to the kid, let him make his own hype.:please:

I believe you have been smoking something you should not be smoking. NCC would be subject to a forfeit if they didn't show up. They obviously did so. Since you boys couldn't provide a field suitable for the game, possibly you should forfeit. Nonetheless, from what I have heard in regard to the
Ashland AD, he is quite capable of trying to steal the game. Integrity has never been an attribute of those running the Ashland athletic program.
If you pursue a ridiculous forfeit, it just demonstrates how desperate you are for a win. Read my posts. NCC owes you nothing. You should have spent some money on drainage rather than all the silly fluff and crap that, to be honest, impresses no one but your loyalists. And, you shouldn't blow smoke about an alleged email that you can't produce. A team text that all the players got this morning? How silly. It sounds just like Ashland. Class programs with some measure of recent success handle matters in a dignified way. That, T-CATS, obviously doesn't include you boys.

Wasn't the stadium drainage middle school next to stadium is under construction also and was told that is the reason for the flooding. Doesn't matter no field can take that much rain and not flood

Newcath doesn't have to defend themselves on whether to reschedule a non district game or not. It is what it is, "water under the bridge". And what expenses did Ashland agree to pay for??? The three charter buses?? Gas money for fans not riding in the bus?? It all cost a lot more than you think. Use the money to fix the drainage system on your field. Why would Newcath be scared of Ashland? Newcath has beaten them for the past 2 years. Let it go, move on and start preparing for next week's game....Newcath has.

You are grasping at straws, T-CATS. You don't have a leg to stand on. Your posts are weak and whiny. It is fine to be loyal to your team. However, you are fast becoming Gen. Custer at Little Big Horn. Its over. Move on to that big Class 1A opponent next week. You really can win that one.
