#1 Blackcat Fan Wrote:I will keep this short. You won last years game......congrats!
The teams Pikeville won against last year had a combined record of 52-75. The teams Prestonsburg won against last year had a combined record of 32-46. Both are 41% winning percentages, so I see no difference.
We will do our talking on the field at your place this year. Good luck on an injury free game for both teams, & good luck on the rest of your season after our game.
I will keep it much shorter than you. Can't wait.

Shelby Valley awful (lost 4 or their last 5 with only win over Leslie Co.), LCA worse than horrible with 1 win all year, Leslie Co. just awful (lost their last 6 games), Lawrence Co. mediocre and fizzled bad down the stretch, a 6-6 Danville team that was mediocre at best (lost to Corbin 55-7 and Middlesboro 42-15), and a lost to a weak Somerset team that had all of 6 points at Middlesboro until less than a minute in regulation. Yes the same Middlesboro team that Pikeville hung 77 on. I like Prestonsburg, but they were a very ordinary team last year. Jarrell and Frasure were pretty much the whole team. And they played all those games at home.
Bahahahahahah! Well if we were mediocre then what does that make Pikeville last year. We did three things last year that the mighty Pikeville panthers could not. #1We actually had a competative game against Belfry in the reguler season and #2we actually scored a few points on Raceland and #3even won the game. Lawrence would beat Pikeville last year and this year and so will Prestonsburg and you can have all the crow you want after the game.

:thatsfunnLost 4 out of last five with only win being a nail-biter vs. mighty Magoffin Co. Losses to Belfry a combined 77-18...that's competitive
all right.:thatsfunn 7-5 without the forfeit. Very mediocre.

I have to point out that your "competitive game" with Belfry during the regular season was most likely the result of Haywood knowing they would likely see you all again in the playoffs and he didn't show much of his cards in his hands. Pikeville kept it close the entire 1st half and then got rocked coming out to start the 2nd half, and it was off to the races for the Pirates. So don't put too much stock into the scores (yours or ours).
And for the record, I'm STILL mad about the horrible spot on the fake punt. Estep got the 1st down by a mile. It killed Pikeville's mentality and momentum. Belfry was going to win, don't think that was ever really in doubt. But Pikeville could have kept it closer, especially if they hung onto the ball a couple times.
Belfry is Belfry and they will smack you in the mouth to remind you of your place in the food chain right now. If Lawrence wants it, they will absolutely have to TAKE it.

Prestonsburg is too strong offensively. I look for this to be a close game going into the fourth quarter, with the blackcats finally pulling away in the closing minutes by two scores. Prestonsburg wins 40-28. Good luck to both teams.

What the heck are you talking about "cards in his hands"? Have you ever saw Belfry play in like the last 10 years? He only has one card in his hand and that is to run it up the middle down your throat and dare you to stop it. Lawrence County has ran basically the same offense for a few years now.
The kids at Belfry run that offense from little league on up and know the playbook like the back of their hand and they always have good lineman that are huge and strong to get it done.

Here is the video of the game if you care to watch it. Trust me compared to the games that we had against Belfry the last 3 or 4 years this game was very competitive. Belfry flat out beat us with line play simple as that. Lawrence will have a much better and experienced line on both sides of the ball this year and a lot of people love to talk about our skill players this year and I am excited about those also but the main reason I think we will have a good year is our line.http://www.hudl.com/team/34296/#highlights/44598863

I think Pikeville will really miss Chase Hall early in the season. They will also miss Coach Thacker. I give the edge to the Blackcats by 10.

I think people will be more surprised with Prestonsburg's defense this year. A lot of boys where seeing the bright lights of the field for the 1st time either in a starter role or position change. A few more being thrown into the fire due to injuries early to mid season. Those boys became men by the time playoffs rolled around.
Pikeville lost some key players on both sides of the ball, but return a nice group of skill players. They have an explosive offense. I think if they stay healthy they will make a nice run in the playoffs.
With that being said Pikeville takes one on the chin on August 22nd.
Prestonsburg 35
Pikeville 20
Good luck to both on an injury free game.

The Blackcats are to good, they win by 3-7 points.

Pulling for the Blackcats and I think they will get the win, but this is a good openers for both teams. They will both have the opportunity to evaluate players and position in a non-district game.

Fact of the matter is, he likely did the same against Pikeville, at least I'm not blind enough not to see it. Lawrence County has improved but is nowhere near ready to challenge Belfry yet.

Why would they gain confidence losing to Hazard without Jones? That would be extremely depressing.

Heard some (unconfirmed) chatter that Prestonsburg had 5 new players - 3 from Breathitt Co., 1 from Ohio and 1 from WV. Any truth to this? Maybe this is why #1 Blackcat Fan is so confident? Inquiring minds want to know. Still going with the Panthers at home by a TD.
08-17-2014, 08:23 AM
Who would they have acquired from Breathitt Co? Can anyone confirm what jetpilot heard??

There was one transfer from Letcher Central who showed up after dead period. He didn't stay long and has since transferred to Jenkins. There are no transfers on the current team.

Thanks for the clarification hawg laig. Sounded far-fetched when I heard it.

does anybody know how Prestonsburg did in their scrimmage yesterday and who they played

I wonder who P-burg did scrimmage?

The best conditioned team... and the team who holds on to the football the most... will be your winner.
Toss-up game on paper.
Think I will take Pburg in a bit of an offensive firework game.

Prestonsburg scrimmaged Boyd County last night.
Was told the Blackcats scored 5 times and Boyd didn't score, at least while the starters were in.
That's all the details I have.
