BREAKING: Cordia Receives Sanctions Program Suspended
#61
toussaints,

You're taking a lot of your points to the extreme, when the KHSAA proof is far more clearer:

HOUSING LEASING/NON PAYMENT: Did NOT involve a relative/family of a coach. Out of state kid/family received free lodging/housing.

PROVIDING A PLANE: Not for college visit. To go back home (where most of his family NEVER moved from with player). Even if it was a college visit, school still CAN'T pay for it.

PROVIDING FREE MOVING: Cordia actually helped players/families move, with their own trucks or Cordia staffers (or staffer/coach) doing it.

CONDUCTING TRYOUTS: HS Kids 9-12 who were not yet enrolled and/or cleared. (Not MS -- or HUNDREDS of schools would be implicated)

INELIGIBLE PLAYERS: Players were trying out/conditioning/practicing for/with team before they were cleared via transfer by KHSAA, NOT for mistake denial by KHSAA.

I don't know if you're implying some of this stuff has happened/is happening elsewhere, but at Cordia, it:
- Was a lot.
- In a short period of time.
- Consistently involving multiple out-of-state kids
- Consistently involving court orders to get kids eligible

When a school can afford to have all of that happen but yet can't afford to have someone be in charge (A.D.), it has no room to blame anyone.

Cordia didn't just shoot itself in the foot. It also shot itself in the hand, leg, stomach, heart and head.

Morons.

And it can't claim use academics as an excuse/reason.

No list I've seen has Cordia's academics ranked high ANYWHERE in ANYTHING.

I didn't see this posted yet.

The following is a statement by Alice Whitaker, Director of the Lotts Creek Community School:

"We have no comment at this time on the KHSAA sanctions. We are handling this matter through our lawyers, due process, and the courts to rebuke this unfair, unjust, and unprecedented ruling. We are going through the proper appeal process and will be going through the courts, because clearly the KHSAA has no interest in being a fair and unbiased authoritative governing body

I'm not talking about Cordia though, they clearly broke the rules. I'm surprised the KHSAA didn't nail them much sooner than they did. But I'm taking these cases to the extreme, because that's how loopholes are created.

I understand what you're saying now.

That being said, the 7th and 8th graders practicing, especially if they are at a direct feeder school, is covered by KHSAA. Not an infraction for anyone, public or private.

And I would think the KHSAA would be OK with a coach helping a family member move. But going all the way to Canada, New York, whereever to help someone move to Eastern Kentucky is a lot different.

As far as Rhodes, he posted a smart-a__ reply on facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/rodrick.rhodes

"Well Cordia fans the good thing is Knott County cannot beat us this year!!! We will be ok!!! Thank you for all the support!!!"

...

IMO, (Cordia) people supporting Rhodes through this need to stop drinking cool-aid and wearing their blinders.

There's a big difference between walking a fine line and then grabbing that line and moving it ala cartoon style.

Penn State tried that with the NCAA. Didn't work out so well.
#67
Good.
I was all for Rhodes till that slime ball hit on my woman not to long ago.
Right now he's being a big drama queen on his Facebook.

But in all honesty, all the other schools do get by with it.
I guess Alice wasn't paying the right person.

Finished 23-9 on the season.
They now have officially finished 0-0 on the season.
What I thought was pretty cool though is the players they still do have, have the option to transfer to another school to play sports.

Marquis Nowell and Keita would be great fits somewhere - that's for sure.

Here's something some KHSAA supporters are NOT considering:

The KHSAA is well within its right to freedom of information act (since Cordia IS a member and is a public school) Cordia's school records involving all transfers. My guess this would come out in the courts.

What are the chances that 90 percent of Cordia's transfers INTO the school are:

- Out of state
- African/American or Foreign
- And just happen to play basketball?

KHSAA could even go further back and compare those numbers to 5, 10 years ago.

Anyone really think it's just a mere coincidence? Dumb luck? Poor timing?

I'm guessing that's Billy Hicks lol...
Actually I was reading today that Jon Hood was bashing Hicks on Twitter pretty bad. He was actually taking up for Cordia.

I don't think it was him defending Cordia. I think it was him saying that Scott Co has been doing that for A LOT longer.
#73
Well I know what I read..
He wasn't taking up for them I guess but he was making it pretty obvious if one throat is stepped on, so should others.

It's all politics in the 14th though.
Perry, Knott, and Hazard will keep keepin' on.
#74
I'm not taking up for Cordia or any other school for that matter but if your gonna crack down on one school for doing something then you best be cracking down on all the other schools that's doing the exact same thing.

I read online today that Cordia had some players ineligible but still played them anyways...

Nobody was/is doing anything like Cordia was the past few years.

You really think Ballard, Scott County, Trinity were
-- Paying for visas?
-- Lying about ages?
-- Providing free homes?
-- Giving kids/parents money and clothes (outside of team unis)?
-- Actually helping kids move?
-- Having tryouts/practices with kids who haven't been cleared?

All in the same small timeframe?

Nothing like that but recruiting has been and is in KY high school sports.

Here what got me was why no one question why Cunningham came to Cordia Lotts Creek Ky when he could have went anywhere else in the state??? Scott Co Lex Cath Ballard or anywhere what did they offer at Lotts Creek No one ask why......I knew something was funny...I know that if all this is true there is more going on than at any University and they still could not get to the finals of the region, Ihate this for the community and the former players but when you start bringing players in from around the world you better know how to feel out proper paper work and by laws, they can sue the KHSAA but it will not matter they have the goods on them. We all know it goes on at a lot of places but the small schools get hit hardest Rose Hill,Fairview and now Cordia
#78
Do they really think they have a shot at forcing a reversal in court? Kids will go to other schools in fear they won't get to play.

ballboy Wrote:I cant figure out why no one on Lotts Creek did not see this coming, The Death Penalty No Games for the upcoming season and No postseason for 2016 either. Who is the AD at Cordia???? Their more going on their than college, But I will say this there is other places in the state the KHSAA needs to look into this makes 2 small schools that have got stiff penalties the past 2 years Fairview they the KHSAA needs to look at the big schools also.

Cavanaugh Trent is the AD. He is also the AD at Knott County Central.

What I get from reading this is yes we all cheat, we just don't cheat as bad as Cordia.

I thought all of this was legal in the 14th region.
#84
cchsfan4life Wrote:I love it......and just to think that all this went on and Cordia couldn't even get to the finals of the Region.....It was said all last year that Cordia would regret hiring Rodrick Rhodes.....but their fans were in denial......I think anyone who had any dealings with the athletic department should be fired...and Rhodes shouldn't be allowed to coach in Kentucky again. It isn't fair to punish the school and kids....and not inflict punishment on the coaches. Just my opinion.

This is exactly what I've been saying. Some people think if you can get a bunch of talent then you will win it all. I don't care how much talent you got, if you don't have good coaching and discipline and fundamentals all you will have is a bunch of talented kids running around with no clue. This goes for football and other sports also.
#85
Is basketball the only sport these sanctions cover? Any idea if other sports are being investigated also?
If im not mistaken, I think someone at the Cordia school hanles the AD work for Cordia. Maybe the baseball coach? I may be wrong on that. Trent may do Knott and Cordia both, just never see him much around Cordia games.
#86
If Rhodes stays would Cordia be better off trying to get out of KHSAA and doing a prep/private type school? Its either that and keep doing what they are doing, or starting from scratch with a new coach and no transfers. Not to mention what your losing in the next couple years. I dont know many jrs and srs that would want to hang around and not get to play a whole season and then have no chance of post season your senior year.

cougarpride08 Wrote:Do they really think they have a shot at forcing a reversal in court? Kids will go to other schools in fear they won't get to play.

That's the glory of all of this - They can fight it tooth and nail, but the damage is already done.
#88
Where will the kids at Cordia right now end up?
#89
I see nothing wrong with a coach buying kids clothes if they are struggling. I see nothing wrong with feeding players. My grade school coach in the 70s did that for us. But the other stuff is just crazy.
#90
Ballboy, his family's reputation proceed's him in all of central Kentucky. Cordia was the last place where his brother knew he would FINALLY be the MAIN guy. All other places he's had talent that's been equal or better, and coaches who don't give in to threats, like Billy Hicks and Daniel Brown. Nothing but trouble has ever followed this name since he was playing in grade school.
