Corbin 2014

I would guess that most people on here go out on friday nights and support their team (singular).

I went to a couple of their games last year including the game against Mayfield. they are still not my team.I'm loyal to only one team
mysonis55 Wrote:No, they are in the east. They are just considered west. Just like Beechwood is in the west. Someone needs to look at a map.

I agree. Though its not going to change. With the wester part of the state having more big cities and job opportunities, in addition to the demise of the coal industry(incredibly detrimental to mountain football), the east/west lines in the smaller classes are going to be skewed. 1A has less private schools(are there any other than HC?), than any other class if I am not mistaken. I think 10 years from now you will be lucky to have Wburg, Raceland, Hazard, Pikeville, and Paintsville standing on their own. I know there has been talk of a North Greenup County HS for the last several years(though its still years away from becoming an actual thought on paper, that includes a Raceland/Russell/Greenup Co merger). I hate to say it, but there might now be many Single A sized schools left in 10 years, atleast from the East.

I regaurds to staying more true to this thread, I think Corbin got a great gift in Sizemore. Very impressive footwork for a kid his age. Really knows how to use more than arm to throw a ball.

Are you claiming Bell Co. has reached 10 wins consecutively for all those years? I know for sure they didnt have 10 wins a couple years towards the late 90's and early 2000's and their is probably more than I can remember. With that said they are still in the top 10 in the state in wins overcthe last 25 years and top 3 in the mountains.
Dudley Hilton had 30 years and over 300 wins at Bell.
Bell hasn't had 30 10 win season in a row.
No they have not, Dudley coached at Breathitt ? years. At Bourbon a couple. 35 years total and 345 victories. That is a good adverage for him. I do not know his record at each.

Over 200 at Bell not for sure maybe 250.
Murray had a whole bunch of years where they won almost every game they played. That is until they played Mayfield or in the playoffs. The reason for this was their coach made them the marshmallow killers. He scheduled really soft teams. So, were they a flagship? The answer is no and it goes to show that mere winning records doesn't mean much.
Let me be the first to say back to Corbin and why are the flagship, topnotch. Harold seems to see the light that there are a few with that claim including Corbin.

Yes thank you Williamsburg for this kid, have seen him at the fitness center over dead period working hard. Big, athletic kid that will contribute I have not seen him play but have watched him in practice and on you tube. This is where he belongs he lives in Corbin and if not for the former coach his older brother would have been a redhound. If Williamsburg has anymore athletes like this please send them north.
1/4 bak. I would bet that you have seen him play at some point.
Who is going to be playin the skill positions for corbin this year. I think the qb and main running backs return. Will they keep their spots or will every position be up for grabs with the new coach. If you look at the stats from the games they lost it seems like they didnt really have much of a passing game. That will have to change if they want to beat bell county.
7 on 7 this week for corbin. :Cheerlead
What position is 64 playing in 7 on 7?
Corbin has always been know for recruiting kids from other schools. The coaches don't do it but the boosters find a way to talk to the kids parents and fill them full of hope and joy and get them to take their kids to Corbin. Looks like it hasn't changed.

Who are the new transfers, I hadn't heard of any.

:pondering: Corbin fever former. Confusednicker:
I always love when people throw the "recruiting" word around. Sure it may have happened in the past at some rare places but I highly doubt any jobs, homes, or money is given out to high school kids just so they will play ball. Boosters want to win and wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't build up the program they support and there is not one thing wrong with that.

When transfers happen in something so meaningless as high school sports, it's because the player or players' family feels the new place is more beneficial. If schools don't want kids to transfer, the solution is simple. GET BETTER!
Oh, I can think of a recent transfer that got a home to live in rent free.
If you're referring to someone from Whitley County, false!

Other than 64SUR I cant think of any that fits that description.

I think it was me Mysonis55. I can tell you Corbin boosters refuse to paid my rent...Now the recruiting is another stories they convince me I would save over and hour drive on Friday night. I may be Corbin 1st ever recruit....Just saying. Confusednicker:

you have no value because they dont trust you :biglmao:
I'm not denying that recruiting happens. In fact, I know that it happens and happens every year. It just doesn't happen as often or to the extent that we as posters or television shows depict it happening.

For instance, there have been many times that someone connected to Corbin, be it a casual fan or booster speak to someone on another team in the area's family about the possibility of joining the program. This is a small area so most of the time, it is no more than casual conversation between people who already know each other. It happens with people from surrounding schools to Corbin kids just as often.

What I am getting at is that the recruiting which goes on isn't as big of a deal as we make it. In the past 15-20 years, Corbin has had transfers from Leslie County, North Laurel, Whitley County, Knox Central, and South Laurel which have made significant impacts. I've heard all of the rumors and I can tell you first hand that none of them were offered anything other than the chance at playing time on a good team and a good education. Some of the more promising players (We all know the individuals) got not one thing in return for their transfer. Did some get apartments in town to validate their move? Absolutely but not once did anyone other than the families themselves pay for them. I know this to be 100% fact.

In the distant past, it may have very well happened. In fact, I would guarantee it. I also know that at certain larger schools, it still happens but it is few and far between. There just isn't enough to gain or enough money to be made for boosters and school systems to go around being dirty just to benefit their school's success. The same amount of money is made each and every Friday night through the gate and concessions. Most cases, the booster clubs continue their donation due to their love of the program, albeit having success helps them stay close as it's what they love to see.

No A junior High volunteer coach did this to the Burg. Nice kid I hope that he leads Corbin back to the promise land. Down the Line he will be one of the Corbin Stars, I talked to one of the coaches they love him, they say he will play now and will back up their QB.
Harold Excellent Post. We have a few players from other surrounding schools, You would insult their parents if you dared offer them restitution to play football . First most important thing in their children life is their education. The children who have chosen to play sports and attend WHS are some of the most outstanding children you would ever hope for both Academic, socialy, and personally.
