Today it seems like more and more people quit a sport and then want to come back like nothing ever happened.
What is your schools policy and how do you feel about it?

I have found it tends to be a habit, that is hard to stop

IMO once a player quits don't let them back on the team! B/c it just makes the team worry about that player if he is going to stay or go.

It depends on the situation. I would only let a kid come back under two conditions.
1. First, I would have to be satisfied that he had a legitimate reason for quitting and things have changed for him now that would allow him to come back. It would have to be his first time quitting and he would have to be ready to make up the work he has missed. And if he quit because of temper, etc., he would have to be ready to leave all of that behind.
And then
2. Secondly, if and only if he goes in front of his teammates and they vote to allow him to come back. They are the ones he turned his back on and they probably know him and his motives better than any of the coaches. If they welcome him back, then OK.

I agree 100% Bat! Sometimes a kid quits and knows it was a mistake.
I've found that the kids who quit every year and come back out the following year usually end up quitting again. Dont jump the gun on putting so-and-so on your depth chart, because he's a good looking athelete, If he's quit every year before you, chances are he'll quit again.I truly believe( and I may be wrong) If a kid recieves no discipline at home, he will reject discipline on the field and at practice and quit.

my coach says quitting is like a cancer if one person does it then so will other people.

It's true, quitters never win. If you quit me once, then I won't give you another chance.

i cant stand a quite er i quite one time in middle scool it was the bigest mistake i every made

Sf policy is that u can tell any coach or any player that u quit but untill you tell coach daniels ur still part of the team.
02-14-2006, 04:48 PM
but once you quit u have to wait till next year to play again
02-14-2006, 06:27 PM
A player should never come back after quitting!!!

Im a firm believer in second chances but i dont believe in 3rd chances at all. I say if a player comes back and appologizes to the TEAM first and the coaches 2nd and agrees to do whatever the coach says then I say let him back. But, if he screws up again hes gone, no questions asked.

I was going to reply, but I going to QUIT!! LOL:lmao:
I agree 100% with you pantherpride68. Everyone deserves a second chance, but the must be completely faithful after given the extra chance or else!

People do deserve 2nd chances because they can change but it should be left up to the team and coaches. Here at East Ridge the coach has the say.

I think they should be allowed to come back cause some people may quit cause they may have a death in the family and at the time feel its best but wants to come back to the team i think they should have the opportunity.

each case should be handled differently IMO.

Each case should be handled differently IMO, remember we are talking about young people here who for the most part do not know what they want about anything.
02-16-2006, 12:54 AM
I think it should be left up 2 the coaches cause in some cases it isnt the kids fault for quitting its parents or differnt reasons
02-16-2006, 01:34 PM
who knows....different reasons and situations act accordingly
02-16-2006, 06:25 PM
each case may be different but the fact still remains that you left your team. I cant see how anyone could find a reason that would justify abandonment. What if a coach quit and decided he wanted to come back in the same season? No doubt the players would doubt his heart and his leadership. Im a firm believer that you have to be down for the whole ride you cant decide you want a break and the decide you are ready. If you arent ready all the time then you are never ready.

Don't let the baby come back! Parents are the cause of most kids quitting. Every coach should investigate the situation and then make a decision.

02-19-2006, 10:49 PM
