1A Spring prognostication
I simply asked are they pints better? Not a history lesson.
A while ago you told bout that small college team. So surely they can't lose to a team that didn't garner 1 all stater.
Scotty they are there 1 tackle is almost 6 5 weighs 275 pitches baseball and plays 2nd base when he is not pitching, another lineman 1s 6 3 weighs 308 in practice he runs with the backs. the other one 6 3 220 back speed plenty of it, I don't know much about him but college coaches do. Send me a private message I will be glad to take you over there when we get started back. Scotty I would not tell you this under any circumstances unless it was what I believe the truth.
From what I've seen bigger doesn't mean better. Look at the line the rams had last year. Also graves county has big lineman, but they don't fare very well against may fields smaller, and faster lineman.
I agree, If you are going to be looked at by A D1 school they will not look at you if you don't have close to those numbers. You still have to play but those numbers come first.

Very true, i sometimes wonder if they look at height and weight numbers to much. There has been many players overlooked to much
Because they was 2 inches to short, and 20 pounds to light. Jonathan jackson comes to mind, but the d1 coaches do this for a living, and know alot more than me, but i felt they made a mistake on not offering him.
He is doing just fine without them. You do know there was 2 d1 schools that offered him and their coaches left just after the offer. This caused him to lose both offers.

I said 55 that was what looked like this year. they may not play that way for what ever the reason but man do they look good.

Hazard controlled the game but didn't smoke them. But hazard did have a touchdown negated on a lousy block in the back that wasn't needed..
Some kids like Jackson are just football players. Scouts won't even look at them if they don't have the numbers. It is amazing how many of those kids go on to have stellar careers.
Raceland's 2008 team that lost to LCA by 3 in the region finals, would have thumped the Rams first regional champs. The difference? Lineman who were not just fast, but auick off the line and LOW. Last year's line was great, but thy stood straight up alot of the time and leaned on people. They all had alot of upside though and their auickness is what got them their schollarships. This years squad is no where near as big, id say the line will look like this:

LT Greg Bowling 6"/220
LG Caden Townsed 6'2/240
C Lucas Bradley 6"/290
RG Morgan Carmen 5'10 230
RT Isaac Wallace 6'2/290-300

All of them are incredibly mobie. Wallace and Carmen will be nightmares for DEs, OLB, and FS on pulls. The boys arent as tall, most arent as big, but they are quicker and imo have better technique.
Scotty, that is exactly what I saw on video. I told my friends around here before the game at BG we were going to win big. The reason, I looked at the line play, not only for the Rams but for the jackets. I was not impressed at all. I knew they could not keep our faster lighter line out of the backfield. When you cannot do that, bad things are gonna happen. You can have Usain Bolt at receiver and Marcus Allen in the backfield, but if you cannot get the play started, you cannot have success.

A lot of truth to that

Pido open your eyes I the East
I wish I was watching high school football instead of CWS right now.
This is why I think if the Rams OL mature mentally enough to play both ways, this Raceland team can shock some people.
They cannot stand straight up and play patty cakes.
I never was much on patty cakes, I prefer chutes and ladders.
I thought that was the game they were playing at Wburg in the semis.
55 we thought about Raceland Line the sameway you saw us , we expected them to be a lot better.
I never saw lines just stand straight up and wait to catch someone on every play like that. I was in amazement. I would have benched some until they got the idea that they had to move their feet.
They were very, very slow.
Aganst Mayfield we weren't any better.
Raceland's line hadnt faced any challenges all year outside of the Coal Grove(OH) game. Idk if the coaches even expected wburg's line to be what it was THAT night. Raceland's line was better and faster than thy showed that night. It was just the first time all season that they couldnt overwhelm with their size. Thats why I think we need to beef up the schedule a bit. Get rid of Greenup Co, Boyd Co, and the East or West Carters and start scheduling teams that could or should beat you. Id settle for a battle tested 6-4 team if they played the schedule that held 4 games they could lose. There are some Mtn teams and Southern Ohio teams that would better prepare us for the playoffs. Teams that HIT BACK
Yeah, I mean try Belfry, Somerset, Harlan Co.
Agree. We have 5A Ashland, Historically stout Ironton(OH), a rough and tough Coal Grove-Dawson Bryant(OH), then our district schedule. That leaves 3 games to fill. I say choose from:

Belfrey
NCC
Lexington Christian
Covington Holy Cross
Prestonsburg

Anyone that is a solid bigger class school. Greenup, Lawrence and the Carter Co schools arent enough anymore.

Only problem with this.... why would elite larger schools want to play a 1A school?

I respect Raceland's program, but if I am a Belfry fan and the Pirates have limited non-district games I would be a little upset that they schedule Raceland... especially with Pikeville already on the schedule. Just like Raceland, Belfry wants to push themselves with teams that typically are better than Belfry at some aspect.

Same can be said for a similar EKY team like Johnson Central. Let's be honest..most years this would be an ugly game to watch. I like Raceland a lot, but over the past decade or so Raceland and Pikeville have been pretty even programs.. over the past decade Belfry has pretty much had a running clock n Pikeville every year.

Now let's say for example Belfry goes to a 4 team district and adds another non-district game and they are having trouble finding opponents. I would be fine with maybe a 1 year deal where Raceland came to Belfry. Belfry had to play East Carter one year because of scheduling woes... Raceland would have been a much better game. Or in the case of Johnson Central I am sure they would have loved hosting Raceland instead of some of these Canadian teams they destroy that they have to pay a large sum to come down.

I think these are good/realistic match-ups for Raceland, a few you mentioned:
Pburg- Traditionally stout, 2A school, no brainer

Breathitt County- 3A program with tradition... usually would have over matched the Rams but program is in a bit of a slough. Typically struggle finding competition.

Bourbon County- 3A program rapidly on the rise. Very similar team to a Mayfield with great skill players and athletes. Their non-district schedule has been awful and they know they need to up their competition. Would probably be a bit lop-sided scores, but it would make Raceland better.

Cov Holy Cross- Just makes sense... CHC is typically a quality team but not an elite program to the level they are "above" this game.
I wasnt trying to emply that Raceland could compete with Belfrey or Johnson Central. Im fine with a loss if it makes you better. I think more and more teams need to travel a bit more as well. It wouldhelp prepare them for the possibe long trips late in the playoffs. I think Breathitt, Corbin, Prestonsburg, or even 1A matchups with Williamsburg, Hazard, or Pikeville. The Raceland Pikeville series was competitive andhealthy. Hated to see it go away. Next year, Russell is added to the schedule which will probably omit one of the OH teams. I think they need to keep Coal Grove bc it is a good rough and tough game, they arent a historically a powerhouse but thy are extrememly physical. We need games like that as well as a speed oriented team to play, like a Bourbon County. Take out Greenup, East Carter, and Boyd County and replace them with Russell(happening), Bourbon County(should and could), and Covington Holy Cross or another NKY 2A school. That would make the schedule look like this:

Covington HC-2A
Ashland-4A
Lawrence Co-3A
Russell-3A
Coal Grove(OH-D2)
Breathitt Co/Bourbon County
Ironton(OH-D2)
Prestonsburg
Fairview
Paintsville

This would be for 2015 and beyond. Non-district games with Lawrence, CHC, Ironton, and Coal Grove are all games that could go down to the wire, but Raceland should/could win. Ashland, Bourbon, and Breathitt are measuring stick games that Raceland would be an underdog but would be competitive. Wins are important for self-esteem, getting to play better competition prepares you for better teams in the playoffs, toss up games keep u competitive. This schedule would do all 3.
Adding Russell back really helps a lot IMO for Raceland.

Even when Russell is down you know you are getting a fundamentally sound team with quality lineplay and good size.

The fact I anticipate Russell to be up the next few years should give Raceland one of their stiffer tests on their schedule. It's a shame that West Virginia 1A football is so weak and the larger WV schools don't like playing KY teams due to playoff implications because there are a handful of teams over there that would be nice pick-ups as well.

Wayne's blood may be a bit too rich for Raceland, but some of the bigger schools like Spring Valley and Huntington would be nice games.

Williamstown, WV would be an excellent pickup.Traditionally a Top 3 1A team in West Virginia. A 2.5 hour trip though...doable..but not awful.
