I heard Kevin Spurlock would be the next coach at Lawrence County

They will be tough to handle for the next few years.

good luck with him.

Wouldn't surprise me, he is always looking to swoop in and follow these other good coaches that leave a great team, but for some reason they don't ever get any better with him. He has had the best team at several different places and just couldn't win. Maybe his luck can change at Lawrence County. Good luck.

I doubt it will be Spurlock. My guess is either Faulkner or York just because these are the names that people keep tossing around. Probably York since he is related to the superintendent. This after all is a political county and all about who you know, but this is just my opinion. :pondering:

He won at Hazard....

so the york guy would only get the job because he is related to the superintendent? not the fact that he has been coaching for years and is currently qualified enough to be coaching at a college? right? why must something always be a "conspiracy" or "politics" around here? you all just can't be happy with anything. i'm convinced of that.

Couldn't have said it better myself... One thing for sure, whoever comes in and takes this job will have a tough row to hoe.

14th Region, All A State, WYMT (Twice)
All in 4 years, a lot of coaches coach a lifetime and don't win those tournaments.

Two of Spurlock's best teams got bit by "the draw" in the 54th District.
I know sitting at the house during region won't get you too much love... but I'd wager that not many coaches around here would have made it by Al Holland and Dan Combs in a win or go home game in the first round.

coaching is not his problem. nobody can stand to play for him. (Beverly, not to mention moore at sc)

^ I enjoyed playing for him... I know about 10 others that did as well...
All coaches have players that dislike them or whatever... I promise all coaches do...

Just wondering, does anyone knowSpurlocks coaching history. Seems he's been to a lot of different schools. Didn'he start coaching baseball?

I think he coached football at Allen Central when he was an assistant to Johnny Martin. As far as his head coaching stops:
2001-2002 Trimble County
2002-2006 Hazard
2006-2010 Clay County
2010-2012 Sheldon Clark
2012-2013 Perry Central

That's a lot of moves, may hurt him for consideration in Lawrence. Thanks clippers.

Spurlock is the front runner for this job! They should be making a decision very soon.

Spurlock would be a really great hire for Lawrence County. He has a ton of experience and is a very high quality coach. Also, he'd be a lot closer to hiis home. I think he'd stay for a long time there. And hes a pretty dang good guy to.
05-16-2014, 09:33 AM
Spurlock would be a great short term hire, but I think if they want a coach that will stick around a while and build up the program they need to think outside of the box. Soon as the talent is gone he will look for greener pastures.
05-16-2014, 09:35 AM
lc would be crazy not to hire spurlock lol i figured they would have already hired him whats taking so long?

In no way is this a defense of Spurlock because I'm not a big fan. With that said:
I don't understand this mentality where coaches are obligated to stay at schools and bury their coaching careers just for the sake of loyalty. You and I are allowed to work and succeed in our jobs, looking for better opportunities and promotions, so why aren't they?
I think we all need to stop and consider that these people have spouses, families, and their own wants and needs. Sorry if your kids and your hometown don't always come first!

So no Vanhoose or Faulkner there. Thought these 2 had great shot there.
05-16-2014, 11:50 AM
I dont think Spurlock would be looking for a way out if he was at Lawrence County. I think the man may possibly stay their until he retires.

Who is this York guy? Nobody I talk to has ever heard of him
05-16-2014, 08:47 PM
Looks Like York is who LC has went with. Saw it on the Levisa Lazer web sight.

Mezzo Wrote:First off let me say that I don't agree with you. Just as coaches leave and change jobs to better themselves so do some players. Two years were wasted with Miller. He did nothing for the program. Finally the administration woke up and got a good coach. He is now gone so these boys only have two years to make something happen. Am I saying they are going D1? No I am not but most can go on to college on a scholarship somewhere. It is not fair, regardless how much they love Lawrence county for them to have to let the LC administration hold their future in their hands. Is the administration concerned about the next coach? Of course not. It will be a so so coach that will do nothing for these boys and will take them no where. It is just common sense people that this is a baseball county and Feltner is only concerned with the baseball program. So if these boys have to move in order to look out for their future then so be it. Don't judge them. Now if the LC administration would like to step up and pay for their college then that might be a different story. Otherwise don't judge and say they don't love LC the way you do. It's the administration that does not love or care what happens to LC. As they have plainly demonstrated numerous times.
Nothing against the boys who play baseball but what has the LC baseball team done as of late. It would seam that they are still living off the thunder of a few years ago. This may have been a baseball school then but the teams of the last few seasons and this year are a little short of spectacular IMO.

how many times have you even watched the baseball team? they play one of the toughest schedules in this region or the 16th. they don't pad their schedule with creampuffs just to get 25 wins. they won the region in 2011. then 2012 was a loss in the district. 2013 they won the district and made it to the regional semifinals losing to the eventual regional champ in a close 1 run game and to a team that went on to win a game in the state tourney. this year the winner of the region will probably be either lc, paintsville, or jchs.
why must you blast the baseball program for? they have been very successful. how many times have you referenced the football days of chuke williams? good programs to "live off" their past. it is called TRADITION! Duh!
i guess to answer your question...what has the baseball team done as of late? well...something that the basketball or football hasn't done the past 2 seasons....win the district.

I guess you didn't read my post at all. I said nothing about the fine young men who play baseball for the dawg,s because they are the baseball team so I didn't blast the baseball team Duh! I am just hearing a lot of talk about this being a baseball school and some people with power in the school only careing about baseball. I know the baseball team has had some good teams in the past but you can,t say that the last few years are not down a little from that success. I just think that in order for a school to be considered an anything school be it baseball, basketball, football or what ever then you need to have a long string of success and build some tradition and a championship would not hurt either at some point. At this point in time I don't think any sport in this county is good enough or consistent enough or stands out head and shoulders enough to wear that crown. I don't think any sport in this county has ever been good or consistent long enough to wear that crown now that I think about it. A few of the sports have came close in the past and now the basketball team is giving it a go and I don't remember in my 35 years of there ever being this much attention going to the basketball team but I like it. All I'm saying is before we crown LCHS a baseball school then let's get one and a half or two decades of success and consistent winning and get some more championship contenders first. Belfry is a football school for obvious reasons and not one sport at this school has done anything close to what that football program has done for as long as they have done it and they deserve to wear the crown.
