eagle 777 Wrote:Seems like the last 6 games that JC played were some very dirty plays against them. But I can say I never in any game seen the first JC player go back after the other teams player. That Makes me very proud of our players and coaches!!! Maybe that's why we are where we are today. One thing cannot be argued we have a large number of fans at every game away or home.
Not trying to be smart with this comment, but JC should have a large number seeing as they have one of, if not the largest, school enrollments in all of eastern KY. JC's enrollment rivals that of schools in the Lexington/Louisville area.

Good luck Johnson Central . I don't like the dirty play against Hall , but if he wants to do well at Marshall he had better get a lot stronger and tougher .He is a great play hope he makes it at Marshall time will tell.

I agree Hall needs to get stronger and I'm sure he will at Marshall under a strength and conditioning coach. JR was probably thinner than Hall his first year at Marshall. I don't agree with you when you question his toughness. I've watch him since grade school and he has never backed down from a challenge. In all the years I've watched 15th region basketball Hall has taken more and harder hits than any other player. He gets up, shakes it off, doesn't complain to the ref, doesn't go nose to now with other players. He just goes back and dunks it in your face again and again. I would be curious to know if he has ever had a technical for miss conduct on the floor other than hanging on the rim.

I can promise you he has never had a technical for misconduct.

When I got to Marshall I was somewhere around 215 pounds. At the end of my first year I was 230. When I left school in 2002 I had gotten up to 255. Had to get that weight on. Playing in the post there was a lot more physical than high school. The play was easier to handle with the weight!

PHS Coach Wrote:Ok "Thunder" and "KyRock" let me paint you a picture. Your son is driving to the basket. He is 6'9" and can dunk at will. The apposing player says "I'm not about to get dunked on", "because there's a price to pay for dunking" and they foul YOUR son hard and INTENTIONAL. YOUR son the 6'9" player, whom by the way never questions a call or plays dirty, goes to the floor hard and hits his head. The impact causes a brain hemorrhage and now YOUR child is dead.

My question to you 2 fine fellows is....... is YOUR child’s life worth the "price to pay for dunking"????

There’s a difference in a clean hard foul and playing dirty. Hall has endured DIRTY play now for 3 ½ season all because he can dunk. He may possibly lead the state in drawing intentional fouls (4 in 3 games of the regional tournament. Very sad, if you ask me, that other players and even worse COACHES who teach their players it’s ok to inflict harm to another player/kid/someones child. <--- Possibly YOUR child someday.

By the way, Congratulations JC. Make us all proud in RUPP.

I do not mean to sound insenitive, not in the least, but that is reaching. If there is that much concern, one shouldn't step on the court when one understands there is a possibility for severe injury. Injuries happen all the time with no malicious intent, it is a part of the game. I never called for anyone to intentionally attempt to injure a player. A foul is a legal play in basketball and when executed properly is not going to endanger anyone. When a player is at a disadvantage in height or athleticism it may be necessary to use from time to time. This should not be perceived as "dirty". No one is condoning inflicting intentional injury on someone, other than whoever said they should send in goons to repay the favor.

Flagrant fouls are another story. But, no one suggested that either. You are putting people behind statements they didn't make.

DALE Wrote:But you never did play, unless you are talking about video games, so you shouldn't make that statement. Doing something like that is called being a coward because someone is more talented and you don't want to get shown up. Why not work to get better, learn how to play defense with your feet, slide into position to cut them off instead of running behind them and yanking them down?
Correct. Never played a varsity minute, but it isn't like I have never played organized basketball lol. Never was big on video games, but I appreciate the smartass remark. Are you unqualified to discuss the NFL because you didn't play in it? I think my understanding of the game is sufficient to comment on this subject at the very least.

Being a coward? Who in the hell said anything about running from behind and yanking someone down? Don't put words in my mouth. The best defensive players in the world have to give up a foul sometimes because they get beat and don't want to give up an easy basket. You all act like he is the first player to ever be fouled while attempting to dunk. I never once said anything about playing dirty and trying to hurt anyone. But going for the ball in a manner that a shot will not be made because of the foul is nothing remotely close to dirty.

Just because a player is better or you get beat doesn't mean you give them an easy bucket. Since you played the game obviously at a much higher level than my comprehension, you should understand that a coach would much rather a player foul and make the player shoot 2 free-throws then give them an uncontested dunk. I have no clue how that is so baffling to you guys lol. Nor do I understand why there was such malice in the response. I took no personal shots at anyone, just gave an opinion on the topic.

And that is how it should be. Hall does do a great job of handling himself on the court and playing the next play.

I still think he must get stronger and tougher to play at Marshall .I don't think Marshall will be the 15 region that don't have a big man that can jump or play. Hall can be as good as he wants to be lets just wait and see. I think he is a great player.

JC has two players that start on the football team's Defensive Line.... Rice & Salyers.

Every team has to have that "junk yard dog" type of player... the person that doesn't let anybody mess with his teammates.

If I was Coach McKenzie, I would put Salyers & Rice in the game and tell them to make a statement against anybody that tried to hurt one of my players.

Ok my first response was not talking about hard fouls. That's just part of it, if a kid is going after the ball and fouls him hard no problem. I think it's the other fouls that are pissing everyone off. The undercutting rather then making an attemp to foul him in the arms and body. Or the straight up form tackle which has been the popular choice as well. That's the fouls we are referring to. There is a significant difference between the two. You get beat by him so ya wait on him to jump then form tackle him to the floor or forget fouling the arms going after the ball lets just run under him and let him land on his back.
#42
Also if you truely don't see a problem with these types of plays then ya have a problem. Very rarely is this crap seen in college.

I never once mentioned being dirty or playing dirty. But there is a price to pay if your gonna dunk. If I was worried about what you mentioned and afraid to play like I said there is always Golf, Tennis or whatever. I've watched him play and to be honest and this is my opinion He doesn't like contact. And send him to the line and him hit 2 lol He is not a great Ft shooter. So yeah I will stick by my words it is a Physical Sport if you can't handle it Quit!!!!! If you think its bad in HS wait till He gets to Marshall. I hope I really do Hope He does well. But from what I've seen He don't like contact. He gets whats the word preferred treatment from what I have seen in High School play. And will definetly be different in College. I have not seen a hard or should I say hard enough foul on him all year or the games I have seen. If your 6'9 shouldn't you be able to dunk? And if you dunk like I said there is a price to pay.

This comment is hilarious. I have seen this kid get pushed out of bounds or knocked to the floor with nothing called and next trip down the floor get called for a touch foul on numerous occasions. And I've watched him play more than most. He is a class act and I'm proud of him.

6'9 and pushed around? If I was 6'9 I would be the one pushing. Sounds weak to me :eyeroll:

This thread is crazy!
2 points is 2 points whether it be a layup, jump shot or dunk.
If someone is worried about injury because of going inside and dunking the ball, maybe they should become a jump shooter!
My rule was you don't come into my kitchen and take my beer out of my refrigerator without paying for it!

A big difference in a clean foul and a dirty foul. Playing to try and hurt any player is a disgrace in your program. People who believe a dirty foul is part of the game must not have a kid playing in sports. And if they do they seem not to care about their own either!!!! If you are a believer in seeing someone hurt go and serve your country or do you care about it either?

Point well stated, "the games I've seen". If you had seen them All you would know what "dirty " fouls are. Good for you in that you didn't get to see such "dirty" fouls!!!
