Jackson Co is charging players and coaches admission when they are not playing. I think it's a bad decision. Other thoughts on this?:lame:

A lot of tournaments don't except coaches cards.

He means that teams that do not play on the same day will have to pay admission. For example Clay and Knox will want to watch Jackson and Corbin Friday, they will have to pay. However this is the first I have heard of anything like this, highly doubt it is true.

Doesn't most every other school have a player/coach pass gate for this exact reason...?
03-04-2014, 11:37 AM
As host of the tourney it was Jackson's decision.
I just think the players should get in free after
All of the time and effort they have given during
The regular season.

Can't confirm right now because we are not in school. Most likely, players and coaches of other teams will be able to enter where the teams that are playing will enter with no charge. Not set in stone but this was the word they came to me on Sunday.

Never heard of doing this before.

The Arena is a nice place, but the atmosphere just ain't the same. If they are charging players and coaches of participating schools, it's probably got something to do with what The Arena wants. Just guessing here, but I've never heard of participating teams having to pay, even on the nights they are not participating.

It's true. Call the Arena.

The Arena doesn't have good atmosphere for the fans and it seems their number 1 interest is the almighty DOLLAR. I would love to see the tourny returned to the schools.

This is untrue. The truth is people on boys pass list may only get into boys games. That includes any and all boys games regardless if your team plays that night or not same for girls. Boys pass list cannot get into girls games and visa versa.

100% agree. It sucks to watch a game there. Its not loud like in the high school gyms and u are way too far away from action. Glad Harlan did what they did last year:Clap:

I'm so glad I never had to play in a region tournament at the Arena, atmosphere is awful and I hate the schedule of the game times. The semi-finals should never be in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, luckily the weather changed the game times. The 13th Region needs to be put back into the high schools, we have plenty of good gyms. Even if they are small, lack of parking, clearing the gym,or whatever, the games should be played to accommodate the players and it was always a rocking atmosphere in the high school gyms and the schedules were prime time night games. I would have hated to play in the arena for all of these reasons. It goes to show you that money really talks.

From what I hear the Arena didn't want to allow boys players and coaches into girls games and vice versa because of the money. Athletic director and Principal at Jackson both argued but the Arena had final say. I agree that the tournament should move back to the schools, the Arena doesn't allow fans and players to interact. If this thing ends with Jackson and Clay is the only way that place may look halfway full. Knox fans don't travel as well unless it's a football game.

I'm glad we had the tournament in Harlan County last year, but I like The Arena overall.
One complaint though. Can they not afford to turn the lights on in the parking lot or clear some of the ice? It was dark and dangerous out there tonight.

Tell your schools.
Every school in the region except one or two voted to have it at the arena when it first happened.
Now every school will continue to have it there except maybe Harlan and HC. By the time it gets back around to them, its very possible they might even have it at the arena.
As for atmospheres, I could care less.
Personally, I really enjoy being able to go to the arena, being able to site 40 seats away from the closest person and not having to be right up on someone. To me, its very relaxing, especially with backed seats. You cant get that at any high school in the region. Its always way to crowded. I posted the numbers last year of what the tourney makes at the arena compared to the schools and it was much higher that what HC brought in last year. Money is the almighty thing here, and schools administrations will keep it at the arena for that very reason.

That's ridiculous. I don't know whats so hard about turning lights on. If I remember correctly, they've never done that before.
I wonder if they even knew the lights were off? As for the salting, I remember when they had there very first concert up there, it was Montgomery gentry 4 or 5 years ago, and it was snowing. They never touched it I don't think and cars were having trouble.
Surely there was a problem, I would hope they would turn lights on especially with kids and school buses coming off that mountain.

Clay County was not in favor of the Arena hosting back when the discussion first started. I don't know about now.

YES!!!!!! Love the atmosphere of the tournaments held at the high school gymnasiums!!!!!

We have SOME backed seating, besides who cares about your back??? You don't have a problem walking around for the entire time you're at a football game! PLUS, you are just damned anti-social!!!
:lmao:

Like the arena or not! It will be there for along time
03-05-2014, 01:08 PM
Clay County's principal, Mike White, Williamsburg and North Laurel all were against the Arena venue.
03-05-2014, 03:08 PM
One reason that the smaller schools, like Jackson, will always have it at the Arena is because of the opportunity for more fans that otherwise would not be making the drive to McKee will come and give up their cash. It's all about the Benjamin's guys, which is sad. I for one would love for our boys to have home court advantage all tournament long.

Williamsburg is for the arena now.

Turning on lights and clearing ice would take from the bottom line and they can't have that. :lame:

The 11th region gives coaches passes to the Region, why on Earth would that happen. Coach Cards don't work in the postseason, but the hosts should let coaches in for crying out loud.

The Arena is a nice place, but takes away the atmosphere of the game. Like stated before though, its all about the Benjamins baby!!!!!!!1
