Jenkins 2014
#1
How will Jenkins be this year? I believe they will be stronger than they were last year. They can without a doubt pull of the Region title this year. Caitlynn Estevez is the best pitcher in the region. Along with Jenkins tough defense and strong offense they shouldn't have a problem this year achieving their goals.

Good to see some softball talk. Jenkins or Estill will win the 14th. Others are making strides, such as PCC, but the title will go to one of these. Gotta get outside of the mountains and expand their programs if anyone is going to compete at a larger level.

I've not seen Caitlynn pitch but it's hard to go against Estill's Gross as best pitcher in the region....Jenkins should be very good this year. Hopefully another Estill/Jenkins region final.

Estevez is a great pitcher. I think she made the Louisville Slugger team for the upcoming season.

Estill and Jenkins should be the teams to beat. When looking at softball you can't just go on pitching, that being said Jenkins should dominate this season. They lost a couple players but the heart of the team is still there. They have a ss that is one of the best in the State (Boggs), they have the creech girl who is a well rounded athlete and their pitcher (Estevez) and catcher (Neice) are the best pitch/catch duo that have played in e.ky. The only problem I see with jenkins is they don't have a strong backup pitcher or catcher if something happens to either of them. Estill has several girls that could play anywhere on the field and still pull out wins. Good luck to all the teams in E.ky

Who does the Jenkins pitcher take lessons from?
#7
I think her father . I have seen her at several camps but you don't get that good from the camps . Her father I think does most of the coaching in that area little league and travelball and he helps at the high school level .

Talked to a lady from Jenkins and was told that most of girls playing for jenkins this year won the KY state title for Little league. Is this group of girls that young that they can play L.L.?
#9
Are you saying the best that have ever played in Eastern Kentucky? If so, you are way, way, way, way, way, off base. I'm sure they're great kids and decent players, but there have been many batteries better than them! You need to get out and see more games around the area.

I guess depends on what you mean by eastern ky? Is it east of lexington? What regions would you put in Eastern ky? I think Jenkins will do fine this year. I think what hurts them is only having one pitcher to pitch the entire season. I think against the weaker teams I would pitch someone else and take a possible loss and have fresh pitcher at district and regions. That's the only season that really matters anyway. I think they also need to be more aggresive on the bases and hitting. Region last year I think they played to conservative. JMO

I think your exactly right outsidein , I talked with her father last year about pitching so many innings and he told me she was very tired towards the end of the year . I don't know who they have as a back up but like you said it wouldn't hurt them to loose a few and save their number 1 for the big games . I think she is one of there best hitters and fields also so she isn't getting any breaks . I've seen her play 1st base during travelball and she's pretty good their . Yes my opinion is the same as yours on the region last year Jenkins missed out on several opportunities they really just got out coached . The credit and the win goes to Estill .

I'm using regions 13, 14, and 15 to describe the mountains. Not being nasty, but when you say someone is the best to play, that's a huge statement considering some of the people that have played. You're forgetting that North and South Laurel have been in the 13th for quite a while now, and North especially has had several great pitchers and catchers. Abby Sears and Rachel Akins comes to mind quickly. I'm not even going to mention before these schools moved to the 13th, even though geographically speaking they have never moved.

WYMT Considers regions 12-15 as mountain schools
#14
Very bold statement to say the best duo to come out of eastern ky , no question they are good but it's a little early to say that. I consider my Ashland girls a mountain team and they are pretty good also
#15
I know that some people include regions 12 and 16 as mountain regions, and that's fine. It only furthers my statements, as fastpitchfan points out. Ashland has been an excellent program for several years and have had many fine players. If you include the 12th region, then you get all of North's teams, including their state title team with Becky Abner and company. You don't win more games than any program in the state and not have great players.

I see that Jenkins travels all the way to Stanton on March 21 to play Powell County at 7:30 Pm. Powell also plays Jackson City at 6 PM on the same night, wonder if Jenkins is playing Jackson City?
#17
I haven't seen Jenkins schedule is it posted .
#18
Yes most of them are posted. Right now it looks like more games could be added. LCC schedule is completed.

Jenkins will square off against Lawrence County next Saturday March 8th at LC. LC is a young team with 4 dandy pitchers and 2 of the best middle infielders around. Should be a good gauge for LC if Jenkins is the best in eastern Ky.
#20
Jenkins is not the best in eastern Kentucky, no disrespect intended.
#21
I think just like with any sport... anything can happen at tourney time!! It is the thrill of the season and the teams are so pumped up. I do agree that it will be Estill County for one of the teams in the Regional Championship, but it is way to early to tell who will be the other team going against them. I am just not sure if it will be a repeat of the championship game of 2013 with Jenkins. Again, this is just my opinion.
#22
How is Jenkins doing this year?
