Your Team's Mount Rushmore

John Cole

Honorable mention to Robbie Lucas, Jay Cobb, James fletcher. I think you could make arguments for all 7. Jim Williams and Tony Massey both played in the NFL so those are locks, coach Caine was a great coach, and John cole still holds numerous state receiving records. Jay Cobb resurrected the program and Robbie Lucas has won 5 straight regional titles. James fletcher (according to lure) was one of the best backs in program history.

Any somerset fans care to add to this?

Pete Venable? UK product and played on the '78 State Runner-up I believe.

Bo McMillan of the Praying Colonels was a player for the Jumpers wasn't he? He's only in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Two more great options. Didn't even think of McMillan and Venable.

Hard to do a list like this....

What about Aaron Anderkin? I think he played on the carpet in Louisville, at Applebee's Park in the spring (final 8), and on the hardwood at Rupp his senior year.

Mike Sanders - WR (holds almost all Recieving records and KR/PR records
Travis Elliott - RB (if hadn't been injured, more than likely would of broke numerous NKY & state records)
Vince Murry- LB (big part of the 2006 state team)
Scott Gray- RB

Notables
Kris Pridgen- DL
Conner Hempel- QB
Court Mace- LB (holds defensive records was a very special player at Ryle)

Was he better than Setters? I was shocked that you didn't have him on this list.

Travis Grant was also pretty sick for them.

As for CovCath, I couldn't even think of who to start to make a list with.
QB Challenge Champion, Just Pitching Champion, Midi Golf Champion- My Greatest Accomplishments in Life

I know he just played part of his career at HCHS but I would put Nathaniel Gilliam on this list. He wasn't any bigger than a minute but man alive could he run the football. He was one of my favorite Redskins/Black Bears to watch.

Certainly you are correct. My post was mostly directed at the Lloyd alum who believed he was the pinnacle of success in Erlanger, neglecting to realize Lloyd has a great history.

Marty maybe but not Mitchel.

I picked two most prominent coaches (both elevated program to the next level) and balanced the players with one old school and one more modern. Jared was Mr. Football (so was Pat) and as dominate of a high school player as I have ever seen. Carnival show aside I really think he is an easy choice.

I thought about him simply for his performance against Middlesboro. Then there's TJ Green, Cody Taylor, Marcus McMillian, and Jake Middleton at running back. This years class made only the third class to go all 4 years at HCHS so there's more history to be made but there's so many that have laid a foundation for establishing Harlan County Football.

This years team could have used a Glen Roberts to squash all the drama.

The one player I would add for HCHS is T.J. Green.
I think T.J. basically changed the course of history for HCHS during a three-game stretch in the second season when the Bears should have lost to Letcher, Perry and North Laurel on successive weeks. He showed more heart and made more plays in that three-week stretch than I've ever seen.

I'd go with:
Larkey
Whitehead
Green
Middleton
#76
Whitley County

BJ Lawson
Bobby Gibbs
Cody Jones
Boston Bryant

Hard to leave Brian Lawson off for all he has done for whitley football.

I had Green on there and went with Dylon Smith.

Was it the Letcher Game or North Game Robbie Halcomb had a game saving tackle? I was thinking it was North but I thought the score was 12-7. But the North game went into a couple of overtimes.

The tackle was against Letcher. Green had a big touchdown run in that game, jumping over one of the Letcher defenders.
He scored a couple of touchdowns in the final two minutes against Perry when that game appeared to be over. It was the biggest comeback that I can remember.

Lawrence Co.
Chuke WIlliams
Phil Ratliff- offensive line coach for the CHarlotte 49ers
Jason MIchael- offensive coordinator for the Tennessee TItans
Gerad Parker- assistant at Purdue UNiversity
Michael West
On a side note both PHil Ratliff and Gerad Parker were assistant coaches for Marshall University at one time and Jason MIchael was tight ends coach for the San Diego Chargers. Michael West was just flat out fast and if Chuke Williams had wanted to push the matter I believe he would have broke the state rushing record long before JJ Jude but he did not start at HB his freshman year he only ran from time to time his freshman year and the bulldogs were pass happy that year because they had Gerad PArker at receiver and Jason MIchael at qb but that is just my opinion. Mine has 5 heads.........because I can lol.

Double G those are some hardcore guys from Louisa. I would say tops around if you go beyond high school and Chuke was my coach at Paintsville but those are some some great names you have.

Didn't Green cause or recover a fumble to get the ball back within that two minutes? I know he ran it almost every play.

For Highlands Rice and Mueller are a given. (Washington & Lincoln)

I think Lorenzen has to be in, he was Mr Football, QBed arguably the best FTH team. Carried UK football for a couple years and won a superbowl.

Jim Burt, Michael Mitchell, and Marty Moore are probably three of the other most successful.

Gino and Towles both QBed multiple state championships

Mike Murphy? next best coach? (Owen Hauk has to be claimed by Boone)
Rodger Walz? He was a stud QB at FTH winning state multiple times and coached one year winning state

Hank Pouge was a state champ go-to RB that played at Indiana in the 70s. and has been a huge part of the youth football program for decades..

Weinrich will be in like 20 years

I will argue Schneider all day. Being there for that many years shouldn't qualify you automatically. One title in that many years? I would put Eddie eviston on there before him. Let's do this.....

Ziegler was the most accomplished RB in NewCath history. Class of '66. Played and started at ND.

What, no Tom Duffy?

Actually I think you are spot on for Lorenzen. (But he didn't play in the Super Bowl. More accurate to say he was on a Super Bowl winner.)

As to Mitchell, can you put on Mt Rushmore a guy who only played one year for your program?

Marty Moore has a stronger case as does Jim Burt IMO.

You might be right, but I have to give him the "hardest hit" I have ever seen in a high school game, and it broke up a TD in the endzone on the hit.

For Cov Cath obviously Lynn Ray is one.

I think Jeremy Madden should prob be there.... I think he had all their rushing records at least when I was playing. and he scored the winning TD in the mud bowl. 3 year starter at tailback

What about that Blesser QB from their last state team?
Was there a rushing QB Ellison that started for years? don't know if he won state or anything...

Artie Stienmetz? a Wolf prob has to be on there.
I remember a Cogswell and Oliver from the 80s / early 90s state teams?

I didn't know that Mitchell was at highlands for just one year.... I think that takes him off Rushmore. Even if he might be the most successful 'Bird in the pros.
