Believe it when I see it. Will UK play somewhere else during the renovation (if it happens)?

It looks like it will be a tremendous facility. I'm excited to see it all come together, finally!

Can't wait until this is finished

#1 thing and the most important thing to fix,, is get rid of those gawd awful red air ducts. And a new big Bertha.

It will look great when it is done but I would rather have UK spend their contribution on building an arena on campus. Also, the people who currently occupy the retail space have no idea if they are going to be able to stay and if so, how much the rent will be. The design is great but the overall plan doesn't seem to be thought out well.

310 million?? Did I read that right? You could build a new arena for that. The Yum Center cost 340 million.
02-12-2014, 12:03 PM
You guys know I bleed blue for UK, and this is probably not going to be a popular perspective. However, it was reported in the Lexington Herald this week how much of the funding came from coal severance funds. I resent that. Our economy in the coal fields is at an all time low, and the hard working folks are forced out of the area in order to find employment to support their families.
I want and hope that UK has a tremendous facility in which to play their games and promote UK athletics; however, coal severance funds should be used as job incentives in the coal fields first and foremost.
JMO....hope that doesn't offend anyone.

From what they are saying not all of that money is just arena. Lexington Center in General is being moved, and a lot of the money will be done around the arena it self. They redid the locker rooms, and once this is done it will be golden standards. I do agree with granny coal severance should stay in county.

The coal money should never go to anything in Lexington. What's it benefiting the counties where it came from? Nothing..
02-12-2014, 05:24 PM
Curious why they didn't just build a brand new arena for that kind of money. Nonetheless, glad for the upgrade. More fans can attend games
02-13-2014, 09:48 AM
As I mentioned, UK should build an arena on campus instead of sharing some of this cost. Not only will they be paying to help renovate but they then will continue to pay rent.

This bunch in Frankfort does not care anything about the people from the mountain unless your from Pikeville or Prestonburg, For 6years that dipstick for a governor we have has tried to start casinos so he can make the Horse people richer, like they need a little more money. They have used our coal severance money to make U Pike a state school. But it we ask for something you would think we lived in a foreign country.

Im still trying to figure out what Brashear has done...
The news just stated he has good poll numbers, but hell, I don't know what hes done. Literally, I haven't heard about Brashear even being in EKY on the news or anything.

Well, you must DO something before it can be judged as good or bad.
I think his poll numbers are good because he has done so little in his tenure. Most of the negativity has been aimed at southeastern Kentucky, so who gives a rat's behind.
I haven't said very much about Gov Beshear over the years because my husband used to work for the state. Well, he's retired now. nicker:
Beshear is nothing more than a big money pawn, with perfect hair, a plastic smile and a short man's syndrome.

They aren't building from scratch because they don't have the freaking money yet.
From what I've seen in the budget they are only accounting for around a third of it.
A small portion of that coming from coal tax - too bad a lot of the guys that worked to make that money have lost their jobs.

Why the high expense if they are building onto an existing structure? As someone mentioned earlier for $30 million more the Yum! Center was built from the ground up. I do not get it.
02-14-2014, 09:04 PM
Some of the money is going to Lexington Center, and some to Rupp. Read what is being added.

If they get $1 from coal severance they have got to much.

That Dipstick has not done one thing to save any of our coal jobs, but he sure has no problem spending our money.

Would UK and Lexington be doing this if Louisville didn't build the Yum Center?
