Biggest shot you've ever seen in HS basketball around here!
Here are the top 3 that I've seen.
Daniel Combs comes to mind (homer).
The state title game went to overtime after a 3-pointer a kid shot while lying down a few years back.
Ben Bowling beats Hazard with a near half-court shot.
What do you guys think?

On January 05, 2002, Ashland played Rose Hill at Boyd County. The game was moved to BC to accommodate an overflow crowd of well over 4,000. The "relationship" between the two schools was hostile at best with many nasty signs (The best was one that said "Don't be nervous, Ashland. The college scouts aren't here to see you") and plenty of vulgar and derogatory remarks going back and forth. The atmosphere was electric. With six seconds left in the game and Ashland leading by one point, Beach made one foul shot and missed the second giving Ashland a two point lead. Ovinton Mayo got the rebound, hastily dribbled up the floor, and hit a thirty foot shot at the buzzer to give RH a 68-67 win.
Now, that was the best I have ever seen. It was a joyous occasion.

One shot that comes to my mind was years ago between Owsley and Lee at Lee. There was a time frame like 10 yrs or longer were Lee hadnt beaten Owsley. They took a shot about 3/4 length of the court on the opposite end and in my opinion was giving way too much time by the time clock manager to end the game.

In 1995 Bill Ray Fawns, I believe was his name, hit a half court shot in the opening round of the Sweet 16 to send the game in to overtime. In the extra period, his Montgomery Co. club knocked off Bill Mike Runyon's Paintsville Tigers.

Tommy McKenzie of Johnson Central in the 2000 state tournament vs. Hopkins County Central.
Steps up to the free throw line and hits his shots to put JC in the lead and wins their first ever game in the Sweet 16.
Say what you want to. But when it's just you.... on the biggest stage of your life... everybody in the rupp arena is looking at you. Those are probably the biggest shots in JC's history so far.

It wasn't a half court shot. It was a 20 foot 3-pointer. Still a great shot from Fawns. He had hit big ones all year.

For some reason I thought it was further than that, but thanks for the correction. I guess that's the ole fishing story, that bass gets a little bit larger as each year passes. Hard to believe that was 19 years ago.
I do remember the outlet pass from you to Todd Tackett to defeat Allen Co.-Scottsville the following year. Outstanding play and a great tournament on your part and the rest of the Tigers.

I remember Fawns shot and was thinking it was further out than that as well... he sure was fun to watch that year!

I can't recall, but do they mark Rupp for HS basketball 3 point line or leave it at the NCAA 3 point line during the state tournament?

1990 McDowell vs Pikeville 1st round of the 15th Regional tournament, Pikeville up by 20 and McDowell fights back to cut it to 2, when G Stacey Hall gets fouled with I think 3 seconds left, with the one and one he hits the first one but the second one is missed but tapped out to him at the free throw line and while in the air banks the winning shot in at the buzzer, was one of my favorites games to see.....

Rick Jones 30 footer to beat Lexington Catholic, ranked #3 in the nation, in the 1998 Sweet 16 semifinals.
A kid from Barbourville rebounds a free throw and throws the ball the length of the court to make a last second 3 to beat cross-town rival Barbourville in the district tournament.
Down by 7 with about 20 seconds to play Tyler Hicks hits a 25-28 foot 3, steals the ball, hits another 3 from the same spot, steals the ball and hits a streaking teammate for a layup at the buzzer to win the Toyota Classic over Covington Catholic.

Now the last 13 seconds of that Allen County-Scottsville game had TWO great moments. Paintsville up 2 with 13 seconds left - Todd Tackett hits 1 of 2 FT to put us up 3. Warren Cunningham (who later went to UNC Greensboro) dribbled down the floor and hit a running, twisting 3-pointer to tie the game. He and his teammates started celebrating leaving Tackett open at half court. I was right under the goal and new from the angle the ball Cunningham shot was going in. I looked up and saw Tackett, got the ball coming out of the net, stepped out of bounds with one leg and three a great baseball pass out to Tackett who only needed to dribble once and scored with about 2 seconds left. That sent us to the Final Four in 1996 and on to the state title!!!
