With the 2005-2006 realignment I have noticed that some old district and regional rivalries have diminished. I know Scott Co had big time games with Oldham Co and Bullitt East who is now in a Louisville region. Clay Co and Rockcastle were heated rivals in the 49th and 13th. They never play anymore. South and North had big games with the Pulaski schools. Fleming Co played in the 10th and Lawrence in the 16th. What are some other rivalries that I missed, and why don't these games still exist? I know they don't have to play but these we're exciting rivalries at one point.

I forgot to put in that post who do you think your biggest rival was before the 05-06 realignment and who is now your biggest rival after?

Scott County, Bullitt East, Oldham County, and Shelby County were all huge rivals in the old 8th region. There were many, many very good games played in New Castle over the years in the regional tournament.

The Knox Central and Barbourville game used to be as heated as any game in the state. Now they play it on a weeknight in front of half empty gym.

Knox Central and Barbourville used to pack the gym. The Clay-Rockcastle games were hotly contested, too. Clay and Knox Central really had some barn burners back in the day!

Knox Central and Corbin used to be the biggest and best in the 13th. All of the Harlan County schools had a special atmosphere. South and North has died down a little bit, with Corbin and South being new rivals and Clay and North new Also. I like the old districts and regions better though. Clay and Rock was a great rivalry.

Agree, Clay and North could have something to do with their other rivalries. Don't mean this out of disrespect but the Clay and Jackson rivalry is pretty good about every 5 years. That last couple of meetings have been intense as well as the match up in about 2008. I'm surprised the Clay County and Knox Central rivalry isn't a lot bigger in all sports than it is. North and South definitely isn't what it was.

Clay and KC rivalry used to be intense. Bell and KC is a very heated rivalry in all sports. Bell/Mboro has a great rivalry in all sports as also. For the 14th I think Hazard and Perry is the best. In the 12th Wayne and Southwestern has developed into a good one.

Wolfe and Powell used to be a hot rivalry until Wolfe was moved from the 56th to the 55th.

Hazard and Perry hasn't went anywhere ... Knott co ppl just have a reason not to worry about it bc they r good right now... Rivalry is still live! Ppl in Perry County worry more about Hazard/Perry than Knott/Cordia... Just wait until Rhodes and Justice leaves and you'll start following Hazard/Perry again!

^ JMO the KCC-Cordia is solely a Rhodes thing. JBS and LCC were the big games for me before Rhodes arrival at Cordia. JBS and LCC have just been down a bit at the same time.

Belfry and Pikeville has pretty much disappeared except for at the middle school level. Belfry simply dominates in football and Pikeville in pretty much all else. I look for baseball to be interesting between the two though this year.
