Leslie County/Sayre fallout
#1
Anyone heard about this?
#2
Please elaborate. Curiosity is at an all time high!
#3
I've heard the same rumblings on facebook, would love to know what transpired.
#4
Someone spill it
#5
What???

Evidently the Leslie County/Sayre game got a little heated.
Leslie County girl was given a technical for throwing an elbow or something and the Sayre kids went after her and the rest of the team on twitter.

The Sayre kids had actually "scouted" ways to get under Leslie's skin during the game and made a spreadsheet about it.

Here's what they tweeted out after the game.
I've blurred the names because I think it's pretty ridiculous.

Apparently there was a VERY hard foul at the end of the game that didn't get called and the refs ate their whistle. BOO HOO Sayre...CONGRATS LESLIE CO. !!!

HOLY CRAP...something needs to be done about this. May need to know if this is 100% authentic, but WOW!

This cannot be the coach saying this.
Surely he is smarter than this.
I say it is the girls doing

It was tweeted out by a student.

Maybe if Sayre would have concentrated on the game instead of snarky twitter comments they could make, they might have won. Congrats to Leslie for winning this one.
#12
I heard this is getting ugly from a coach at the All "A".

Is it an ongoing saga or was the initial fallout just very severe?

Good Luck Leslie

Some of the tweets got screenshotted and forwarded to Sayre administration.

Sayre admin didn't want to talk to the media about it but per Leslie admin - the people at Sayre were working to sort through it and wanted to handle it swiftly.

I don't see any legal action coming from this - but I would imagine Sayre will handle it with a case-by-case basis per tweet and per child.

Well nothing will happen to Sayre because most of those parents hold several positions with KHSAA.
#17
That is a shame
politics at its best

History is clear that, with KHSAA, politics plays a major role in who gets investigated, who gets punished, and who gets ignored. Sayre vs Leslie County in the political ring? That is a no brainer.
#19
So far NOTHING...not shocked...its why people don't like these private "elite" schools. Money makes the world go round.
#20
Sayer should at least formally apologize...
#21
The KHSAA is a paper tiger. All roar and little bite. Particullarly in matters involving so-called "haves" and "have nots".

I believe your prejudice toward the privates is showing. The overwhelming number of private schools are associated with religious institutions. Sayre is not. Don't judge the others by Sayre. Sayre, though dripping in money, is much more like the "well to do" publics than it is like other privates.
#23
Which schools do you consider the "well to do"publics? How do they differ from the "well to do" privates?

I think he's saying Sayre is kind of like a Corbin Independent instead of a Lexington Catholic.

You got to love technology and social media.
Another down fall to mankind as we know it.

Im not kidding when I say my kids wont have anything but a cell phone that's used for calls.

Not facebook, no twatter, no messengers, no camera phones, and no internet in general.

Its the only way to keep your kids out of trouble and safe.

Oh, I hope you're right Gut. I thought about doing the same thing, but social media is everywhere. I eventually changed my mind, and tried to teach my kids and grand children and adopted kids (Smile ) how to best handle it, especially bullying situations. I didn't want an ignorant teen facing some of the crap that these people can dish.

Good morning Granny,

The thing that irks me about this whole situation is that this becomes between the haves and have nots. Had this happened in a public school little Suzy or Johnny would have already been dealt with and there would be consequences. This happens at a private school where some of the parents actually are supposed help take care of things like this and what happens...it gets swept under the rug. I have never understood things like this but understand that it happens. If this would have happened to a Sayre student it would lead the local 6 O'clock news. Issues such as race, gender, and sexuality have gotten better in the last 30 years, but who has the money or social status IMO has gotten worse.

Hi Farristown!!!!
Don't get me started about the financial inequality that exists! I know that story all too well.

Six years ago when my oldest was playing for James A Cawood, we actually had a game with Sayre at their school. Well, I really don't think they expected us to be competitive to be honest with you, but I can't be sure. In any event, we developed an 8-10 point lead, and things started getting physical. Well, as true hillbillies will do, we got physical, too. It ended in an all out brawl, with the game being called.

4 of our starters sat out the next two games. I don't know what happened on Sayre's end, but we've never been invited back to play.

Smile

PS How do I open the picture?
