KHSAA Releases Realignment Numbers

Lone Ranger Wrote:I was told by a very reliable source that Bath County will not petition to play up this time. And honestly looking at teams in 2A and 3A, why would they?

EKUAlum05 Wrote:Here is my 3A Shot:

District 1 (AKA the only sure fire district): Tilghman, Caldwell, Union, Trigg, Ft Campbell
District 2 (The I-65 District): Edmonson, Hart, Larue, Etown, Adair County

District 3 (The Louisville Metro District):Central, Moore, Waggener, Henry County, Pendleton County
District 4 (Bluegrass District): Bardstown, Thomas Nelson, Western Hills, LexCath, Boyle County

District 5 (Southern Kentucky): Corbin, Bell County, Jackson County, Casey County, McCreary Central
District 6 (Mountain Parkway North) : Garrard, Powell, Estill, Fleming, Breathitt
District 7 (NEKY): Russell, Lewis County, Lawrence County, Morgan County
District 8 (SEKY): Belfry, Pike Central, Sheldon Clark, Knott Central, Magoffin County

Pendleton has absolutely no geographical advantage being in 3A and they skew districts. Ideally you would move them to

I agree that Pendleton Co will play up because they will have company that have not had before in Mason Co and Bourbon Co to go along with themselves and Harrison Co. That's almost a 4A district. When Pendleton Co goes up that opens the door for East Carter to come back to 3A and I think they will. If Bath Co goes up then Magoffin Co goes down and joins the P'burg 2A district. My bracket is similar to your with a couple of changes:

CLASS 3A
District 1 – Fort Campbell, Paducah Tilghman, Trigg County, Caldwell Co, Union Co,
District 2 – Adair County, Edmonson County, Hart County, Larue Co, Etown
District 3 – Central, Moore, Waggener, Thomas Nelson, Bardstown
District 4 – Henry Co, Garrard County, Western Hills, Lexington Catholic, Boyle Co.
District 5 – Bell County, Casey County, Corbin, McCreary Central,
District 6 – Powell Co, Estill Co, Breathitt Co, Jackson Co, Morgan Co.
District 7 – Bath Co, Fleming Co, Lewis Co, Russell, East Carter
District 8 – Belfry, East Ridge, Lawrence County, Pike County Central, Sheldon Clark

Regions 1 and 2 are west of I-75 and regions 3 & 4 are east of I-75 (except Casey and McCreary).

Because they cant beat Highlands.

They also played some of the worst teams this year, some team from Canada was horrible.

Because they cant beat Highlands? Is that all you have? Name me one Kentucky team that has defeated Highlands in the past 8 years outside of Collins, Ryle, and Trinity. Your team was 2-9 last year and you get on here and talk about another team and its schedule. If you feel Johnson Central is some push over team why don't you convince Coach Parkey to sign the dotted line then? I'm sure Johnson Central would love to get a home and home series started with Rockcastle. Full Deck my butt, you post as if you're not playing with a full deck. Rockcastle would've just as bad if they played Johnson Central's schedule this past season. You may have been able to beat Boyd County,Greenup County and possibly Rowan County but that's about it.

Not close to any 2A Teams. Lexington Christian..

So other teams beat Highlands and you cant so you try to get out of the same class as them, hahahaha
As for hard schedule, I put ours up against yours anytime. We played 2 teams who were in the state finals this year. Plus a Michigan recruit in Damien Harris and West Jess TB who led state in rushing.
We would beat those Holy Trinity teamas well as the Indiana team. you all must have paid a lot of money to them to get them to come get beat. Seems you all pay for wins instead of play for wins.

4A has a couple of issues. Personally, I can't see Calloway and Hopkins Central not playing up into 5A.

But as it stands:

District 1: Calloway County, Hopkins Cent, Franklin-Simpson,Breckinridge County
District 2: Allen County-Scottsville, Warren East, Warren Central, South Warren
District 3: John Hardin, Nelson County, Western, Valley, Marion County
District 4: Collins, Franklin County, North Oldham, Shelby County, Spencer County
District 5: Russell County, Taylor County, Wayne County,Mercer County
District 6: Rockcastle Co, Clay County, Knox Central, Letcher County Central, Perry Central
District 7: Harrison County, Highlands, Holmes, Mason County, Cov Cath, Bourbon
District 8: Ashland Blazer, Boyd County, East Carter, Greenup County, Johnson Central, Rowan County

This would be my best guess. With Doss coming down as the lowest 5A team to replace Calloway and Hopkins Central. I struggled with any 3A team that may want to come up or even any of the next low 5As that may want to play down.

District 1: Franklin-Simpson,Allen County-Scottsville, Warren East, Warren Central, South Warren
District 2: Breckinridge County, John Hardin,Western, Valley, Doss*
District 3: Collins, Franklin County, North Oldham, Shelby County,
District 4: Taylor County,Marion County, Nelson County, Spencer County
District 5: Russell County,Wayne County,Mercer County,Rockcastle Co
District 6: , Clay County, Knox Central, Letcher County Central, Perry Central
District 7: Harrison County, Highlands, Holmes, Mason County, Cov Cath, Bourbon
District 8: Ashland Blazer, Boyd County, East Carter, Greenup County, Johnson Central, Rowan County

"It makes no sense for Letcher, Perry, Knox, Clay not to be in same dist. Very close to each other."

This works, but it's a nice haul from Knox to Letcher. Pretty good trip from Clay, for that matter.

In a Article in Cincinnati paper this week, the reporter stated all NKY coaches stated they are not moving up except Highlands and Cov Cath . Those two schools have not decided yet if they will move up or stay in 4A. Would not be surprised to see them move up for closer and better district games. Wouldn't that be funny if JC moved up to get away from HHS and they are in same class again.

William Muney Wrote:JC will move up to 5a.

Gut it actually looks pretty good as far as 3a. I think you will see Adair however in west possibly in district with Casey, Boyle and the likes or even in district 2. Western Hills may shift to Henry and central district.

EKU your version looks pretty good as well. I am sure KHSAA will come up with something that will make no sense as usual!!!

That was the hardest part.
The Adair thing is what made it rough. I agree with your assessment on adair being with Casey and Boyle, because geographically it makes sense, but if you do that, the Corbin/Bell district loses a team, and it makes the west have to many teams compared to the east.

Its untelling what will happen.

I'm not going to make a judgment but I do feel compelled to point out that when Johnson Central was in 5A, they petitioned to move down to 4A. That was of course denied because the KHSAA never allows that. Then when they get aligned into 4A they petition to move back to 5A for "geographic purposes" with a very flimsy case. To observers, it's not hard to see what the common denominator was. Why else would they make those requests?

I agree with this....looks much more likely than other proposed scenarios. Definitely agree with the Pendleton issue. Definitely a lost ball....really no where to go...unless you make a 6 team district...of which they would be better suited in your district 6 scenario.....very reasonable travel times to majority of district foes

I can't see any scenario where Harrison Co doesnt try to play up (5A). If not...they might as well drop out of district play...ala Pendleton Co.

I think the west looks about right. In the east the only suggestions I'd have is move is to move Morgan County to district 6 and Sheldon Clark to district 7. I'm thinking that might be better travel for them.

Glad to see Brossart moving back to 1a, but it may be too late for them to survive. I hope they find enough kids to play.

I don't see Adair going anywhere other that district 2. For one, they are in the 5th region as is, to go along with Hart, E-town and LaRue. Their furthest opponent would be E-town. Hart, LaRue and Edmonson are all 40 min-1hr drives. Where as going to the Casey, Bell, McCreary and Corbin..well, Casey is the only one that has an argument.

Secondly, they are already in a district with Edmonson and Hart.

Third, and not sure that this would matter, but Adair is on Central time. I can't see them being sent an east district soley bc of this. Just wouldn't make sense. Then again, neither did Bell being in the West Semi State.

This is mine as well, but I threw Henry County in District 3 solely based off the fact they are 30 miles up I-71 from Louisville, but Henry could go 3 or 4.

If the KHSAA has any sense about them all, this will be it.

Very true on both accounts. Maybe KHSAA will actually look at a map this time????

Bell and Casey in same district was ignorant in everyway. 120+ miles away. Add that to them being in same region as Etown and semi state of Paducah and that becomes comical.

Agreed. I first though Calloway and Hopkins Central would try and stay 4A come hell or high water just to stay away from the new 5A west that keeps Hopkinsville, Christian County and BG + adding Madisonville and Owensboro.

But, staying in 4A, you get Warren Central, Franklin-Simpson, John Hardin, Warren East and AC-S. All 5 are perennial Region/Semi-Finalists and three of them are state champs within the last few years if not for Highlands, BG and Boyle County.

Either way, Calloway and Hopkins Central are up a creek without a paddle in terms of competition.

Agreed. They know now that they dropped the ball on that one. They won't make that mistake again.

Personally, and I don't care where you might be geographically within the districts and regions, but I-75 should always be the maximum dividing line. If you are west of it, go west....if east, stay east. Case closed.

Adair to Bell County for a district game. lol Talk about the KHSAA setting itself up, if they let that fly, they won't ever have a leg to stand on when it comes to somebody arguing travel hardships.
#50
There is NO alignment anyone can make that won't have someone travel a 100 miles or make everyone happy.
32-40 teams spread out over 120 counties, 380 miles by 140 miles. It isn't happening :please:

Wasn't Adair in the same district as Corbin at one time?
I also remember Larue being in the same region...

And that was with four classes. Its not like the KHSAA wont do what works, even if it means some schools getting screwed on travel time.
As fever said, every class is going to have one or two teams that's way out.
#52
As a Johnson Central fan I hope we stay in the same class as Highlands,Cov Cath no matter were they move to. That insures that whenever we do win the state we have really accomplished alot and no one can dispute any thing. Plus I enjoy the rivalry thats been going on for 8 years. So many people will settle for generic, not me I want the real thing. Go Central.

Allen Central does not need to be in 2A

SPORTS FAN 101 Wrote:Allen Central does not need to be in 2A

If we had 5 classes instead of 6 the splits they would be. All classes would be better. Districts with 5 or 6 teams that are geographically closer. Top 4 make the playoffs and there would be some great games from the 1st round on. The list goes on.
#55
I think Boyle is 2-3 td's better than anyone in 3a after realignment. Especially now that Smith is back.

Most people won't care, but I'd be thrilled to get the traditional Southeastern Kentucky 1A district of Williamsburg, Lynn Camp, Harlan, and Pineville. Not much difference on the field between Harlan/Pineville and Campbellsville/Berea as a Williamsburg fan, but the history and visiting fanbases are way better.

sstack Wrote:As a Highlands fan, I hate seeing Lex CATH and Boyle drop to 3A, will miss those quality teams. They will be top contenders in 3A. It will be nice to see John Hardin drop down to 4A, especially since the west has not been very strong the past couple of years. Warren Central, South Warren, and Franklin County should be solid additions as well.
