Enrollment numbers per four year average- http://khsaa.org/football/realignment/20...istory.pdf
#2
3a will be a battle
#3
Everyone assumed Betsy Layne was coming back to Class A with Allen Central going to AA, only AC will move. Shake up will be coming to make the districts work out. I assume Jenkins or Paintsville to District 8. Anyone want to mock it up? haha
#4
As a Highlands fan, I hate seeing Lex CATH and Boyle drop to 3A, will miss those quality teams. They will be top contenders in 3A. In 4A glad to see COV CATH/Highlands matchups continue and John Hardin will give Collins some competition in the west. Now let's see if JC chooses to move up.
#5
Anyone have a list of all the changes as of now. Before the play up request.
#6
Not many powers in 5A. BG, Cooner, Cooper ?
#7
3 A is goina be tough on both sides. 1A gets a little more competitive. BW and Frankfort will probably play for the title of the West while the East remains more competitive. 2A...well, Mayfield/NCC could be classic matchups. As could Desales/Mayfield. We will finally see ir Mayfield really was the best, atleast in the 1st 2 classes. 3A will be very fun to watch.
#8
3A will be so exciting

This is it.

sstack Wrote:Not many powers in 5A. BG, Cooner, Cooper ?

I was thinking the same.
Notice John Hardin even dropped to 4A.

As a Whitley fan, I must admit I like seeing no traditional powers in the east, and really only one in the west.
While it may not seem 5A will be tough, you have to admit, its a very even playing field, especially if BG starts to taper off some.

With the KHSAA going to 4 year average on enrollments, I think that was the kicker.

I know this list would look a lot different if it were only 2.
#12
Im going to give 3A a shot using these numbers.
First off, let me add that in my mock, there are 20 teams in the west and 19 in the east.

Region 1
District 1- Caldwell County, Fort Campbell, Paducah Tilghman, Trigg County, Union County
District 2- Edmonson County, Elizabethtown, Hart County, LaRue County

Region 2
District 3- Bardstown, Central, Henry County, Moore, Thomas Nelson, Waggener
District 4- Boyle County, Casey County, Garrard County, Lexington Catholic, Western Hills

Region 3
District 5- Fleming County, Lewis County, Pendleton County, Russell
District 6- Breathitt County, Estill County, Lawrence County, Morgan County, Powell County

Region 4
District 7- Adair County, Bell County, Corbin, Jackson County, McCreary Central
District 8- Belfry, Knott County Central, Magoffin County, Pike County Central, Sheldon Clark

There are one or two teams that might seem displaced a little, but it would put another team even further out if you moved them.
Thoughts?
#13
5A would be very west heavy if somebody didn't play up.
I think Letcher and Perry will continue to play up, but if they don't, its going to be hard to do that one.
#14
I am currently on another tab, been working for about an hour or so. I have made a map of all of Class A. THERE IS NO SCENRAIO WHERE EVERYONE WILL BE HAPPY. This is what we get with 6 classes. District teams are spread way too far apart and not evenly distributed throughout the state. I will post my draft, but it may be ugly for a school or two.
#15
Here goes nothing, this draws an imaginary line from southern border to northeast thru Lexington and cuts between Brossart and Nicholas County (Complete with terrible photo edit):

Class A

District 1

Fulton City
Fulton County
Russellville
Crittenden County

District 2

Holy Cross
Caverna
Campbellsville
Bethlehem

District 3

Eminence
Kentucky Country Day
Frankfort
Bishop Brossart

District 4

Beechwood
Bellevue
Ludlow
Dayton

District 5

Bracken County
Berea
Nicholas County
Paris

District 6

Harlan
Williamsburg
Pineville
Lynn Camp

District 7

Fairview
Raceland
South Floyd
Paintsville

District 8

Pikeville
Hazard
Phelps
Jenkins

Now for District 7/8 you have a couple options, I went with what I thought was best. You could switch Pikeville and South Floyd as well and it would be very similar. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think the two should be switched. Then you could have a juggernaut district with Pikeville, Paintsville, Fairview, and Raceland. Either way, teams will have long trips to either South Floyd or Phelps as neither have a good way to get there.

Also, in the East, you could switch the names of District 6 and 7 to create a north region and a south region if that would be preferred. Right now it is set up East vs. West. Once again, someone is going to be unhappy. Interesting to see how they do it. This would keep things more like they are now in terms or Regional Play. A change could mean a very different look in the early rounds or the playoffs.

As you can see, it is not ideal, but it is as good as you can do in terms of geography, IMO, but would probably make too much sense for those in charge lol.
#16
3a just got tougher.. Higlands and JC still have to go at it..
#17
3A looks like the juggernaut class.

As far as i'm concerned, Perry could end up like this:

Stay in 4A

Perry
Letcher
Clay
Knox
Rock

or....
Perry
Johnson Central
Clay
Letcher
Knox?

If we play up in 5A, nothing changes...

Perry
Harlan
Whitley
Letcher

If one of the 2 (Perry or Letcher) doesn't play up, then the 5A district might look like:

Perry/Letcher
Harlan
Whitley
North and/or South Laurel

Lots of scenarios for a lot of teams with this realignment.
#18
Look for Johnson Central, Perry and Letcher to play up to add some depth to the East. And to avoid Northern Ky.

Look for Bath and West Carter to Play up into 3A, moving Magoffin and Morgan down..

I hope for Belfry's sake that this is not their district. It weakens their schedule dramatically.

If these district and region remains.... Boyle County, Central, Lex Cath out of the West. Belfry and Bell County out of the East are the favorite from 2015-2018.
#21
Here is my 3A Shot:

District 1 (AKA the only sure fire district): Tilghman, Caldwell, Union, Trigg, Ft Campbell
District 2 (The I-65 District): Edmonson, Hart, Larue, Etown, Adair County

District 3 (The Louisville Metro District):Central, Moore, Waggener, Henry County, Pendleton County
District 4 (Bluegrass District): Bardstown, Thomas Nelson, Western Hills, LexCath, Boyle County

District 5 (Southern Kentucky): Corbin, Bell County, Jackson County, Casey County, McCreary Central
District 6 (Mountain Parkway North) : Garrard, Powell, Estill, Fleming, Breathitt
District 7 (NEKY): Russell, Lewis County, Lawrence County, Morgan County
District 8 (SEKY): Belfry, Pike Central, Sheldon Clark, Knott Central, Magoffin County

Pendleton has absolutely no geographical advantage being in 3A and they skew districts. Ideally you would move them to
#22
JC will move up to 5a.

Gut it actually looks pretty good as far as 3a. I think you will see Adair however in west possibly in district with Casey, Boyle and the likes or even in district 2. Western Hills may shift to Henry and central district.

EKU your version looks pretty good as well. I am sure KHSAA will come up with something that will make no sense as usual!!!
#23
Will their be any teams in 1a or 2a move up? I know Bath County did last time, but their are some teams this time closer than before.
#24
Letcher will play up and still be in 5A.

Is it right that teams cant move up if other teams wont move down?

So so teams may not want to move down due to driving distance.

It makes no sense for Letcher, Perry, Knox, Clay not to be in same dist. Very close to each other.

Johnson Central from what I have read is scared of Highlands and wants to make teams drive 2 hours for dist games just so they can avoid Highlands. HOW STUPID.

I think Bath and West Carter move up...
No 1A team is gonna move up...
#27
I was told by a very reliable source that Bath County will not petition to play up this time. And honestly looking at teams in 2A and 3A, why would they?

How do you figure JC is scared.Over the past 6-8 years they have had one of the toughest schedules in the state year after year.Yes they win a some and lose some. But they havent been scared to play anyone.
#29
I am saying Highlands plays up to 5A to compete with BG. Just a feeling I have. I think if you play up it should be all the way to 6A or super class what ever you want to call it.
#30
Lone Ranger Wrote:I was told by a very reliable source that Bath County will not petition to play up this time. And honestly looking at teams in 2A and 3A, why would they?

For the same reason as before....geographical concerns. Last time it was Bath Co and Russell on the NEKY island in 2A with no other team within an hours drive. This time it is Bath Co and West Carter. Same boat. That decision has not been made yet.

If Magoffin and Morgan were 2A also like it looked like they may have been on the 2 year numbers then you could have the makings of a district. The 4 year pushed both of them to the smallest 3A schools. If Bath Co and West go up then they come down.
