Cordia 51 Hazard 49 final
#31
If you think Rhodes is bad, you should watch the little football show Friday Night Tykes. I love how Rhodes handles those boys. Thats what they need. They need to know who the BOSS is.

Rhodes only been coaching 3 years now. Holland 52 years. Give Rhodes some time to learn. Just because you can play doesnt automatically mean you can coach. I think Rhodes is doing fine. Remember, this is almost an entirely new team he has this year at Cordia.

WALL2WALL Wrote:What a big and smart coaching decision when Cordia fouled with the game tied. Putting the game in their hands and not allowing Hazard to have the final shot, which they had anyway but things were greatly different with that final shot. Both teams played hard and it made for a great game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I look at that foul as just the opposite! Cordia had just tied the game with 27 seconds remaining, after trailing for nearly all the game (and also rarely getting any judgement 50/50 calls from the officials, epsecially the one they call Spud), and then with a little over 20 seconds remaining they FOUL Hazard and put them on the line. Let's assume Hazard hits both free throws (and for most the night they had been very good at the free throw line), well, that puts all the pressure back on Cordia. Now they're trailing by 2. What's smart about that decision??? Anyway, imo Cordia didn't mean to foul Hazard, they were only going after the ball, trying to force a turnover. It wasn't really a Rhodes "decision".
I don't understand why Rhodes didn't turn up the defensive pressure much more often and earlier in the game. Hazard was having trouble with their quickness for most of the game. Instead, they stayed in a halfcourt zone and allowed Hazard to work the ball around the perimeter until they got an open 3, and the Bulldogs are a very good 3 point shooting team. The trey is what mostly kept them in the game. Late in the game when they turned up the heat on defense is when they forced Hazard into turnovers and mistakes. Cordia outscored Hazard in the last minute of the game by 8-2. I would have liked to have seen that kind of defensive pressure for some parts of the other 3 quarters and see what would have happened.

^ I agree 100%. I don't think the foul was nothing more than a mistake on Cordia's part. I think that had NOTHING to do w/ coaching. HHS hits free throws they win the game period. Free throws are the worst I've ever seen this season. Cost 10/12 games that I myself have watched.

I'd say Rhodes didnt press because he didnt want his entire team fouled out before halftime. The lady ref would of made sure of that and so would of spuds. Ghost fouls.

Are you crazy? She is probably the best ref in the 14th Region. She knows more about basketball than most of the people that post on here put together.

Put her and Roy Spencer together calling a ball game and theres going to be 100 fouls called. She is as good as anyone else reffing around here I guess. Dex and Ritchie let you play a little bit and I like that.

I saw Rhodes put the fear of God in Chisolm last night lol

When they got the big stop... Chisolm ran across the court and started celebrating with the crowd with time on the clock.

Refs were working out the clock and foul situation and missed it.

He literally shoved him into his seat and said some things that I'm not comfortable repeating on here.

Geez, my football had the fear of god in me my entire life. That's why we respected him so much. That's the problem with many coached, they try to be buddies with the players. Not a thing wrong with being tough on your team. imo

I stand corrected. I forgot about the 2012 season when hazard put 2 major whippings on Cordia.

I didn't have a problem with it at all.
If my basketball knowledge serves me right (which it sometimes doesn't)...
then Cordia would have shot 2 FTs for the personal fouls and then Hazard would have taken Technical FTs and gotten the ball back.

Someone needed to scare the pants off of the kid lol

WOW!! Only thing I know to say is much respect to you Cordia Lions. Never quit and battled the entire game. I'm usually hard on them for obvious reasons, but this game they actually showed for the FIRST TIME all season how good they actually are. Now the only question is consistency because we all know this team does not play with the same effort night in and night out, they showed that in the WYMT.

I wish I could make it tomorrow to watch the Lions win the All A 14th region championship. I listened to this game, every second! I'm just so proud to be a Cordia Lion! We are Cordia!

Rhodes called a TO before they fouled Thompson and he didn't look like he was upset when they fouled.

I think he called for it.

I didn't say anything in the Hazard Cordia game thread!

I knew it was going to be a close game!

But if ur just trying to take a shot at Hazard for losing a game by 2 then ok but no really for me to eat crow! I know Cunningham is a special player, Rhodes has found a player that can win games for him!

Just giving you a hard time bud!

Well, if Rhodes did call it that was poor strategy. I know it worked out but you absolutely can't allow a team to go to the free throw line with an opportunity to score 2 points and go up by 2 with 20 seconds remaining in a game. That puts immense pressure on the team who is trailing in the game. It cost my high school a district tournament back in the '80s. One of our players hit a jump shot with about 15 seconds left on the clock to tie the game and the same player, a freshman, ran up and simply grabbed the opposing player when he received the inbound pass, sending them to the foul line. They hit the free throws, our team came down and misses a shot, they rebound and game over. We basicly allowed them to score two points with the game tied, uncontested 15 foot free shots, and they won the game. In our case the coach didn't order the player to do it, he did it on his own, just a nervous freshman mistake.
