Another is likely Western Kentucky's Bobby Petrino. The former Cardinals coach is believed to be squarely in the mix, according to a source close to Petrino.

Western Kentucky AD Todd Stewart told CBSSports.com on Monday that all is quiet on the Petrino front, but USA Today reported Tuesday that WKU is talking with offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm as a contingency plan.

I think if he is hired again he will be there for the long haul...but then again I thought that Charlie Strong would stay longer than he did. Seems like Jurich goes out on a limb for these guys give them an opportunity to start their head coaching careers and they up and leave for something that seems better...that includes Petrino.

I don't see anything wrong with that as long as the program keeps winning. If Jurich is willing to fire a coach after 3 bad seasons, why can't a coach leave for a better opportunity after 3 good seasons? It's not Jurich's problem that Petrino crashed and burned in Arkansas.

As reported today by Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports (link), WKU head coach Bobby Petrino will accept an offer to the same position at Louisville.

According to Forde's report, Cardinals athletic director Tom Jurich should finalize the contract details tonight with Petrino's agent, David Dunn, followed by the school introducing their new coach on Thursday.

Forde said Jurich reached out to WKU athletic director Todd Stewart on Sunday, Jan. 5, for permission to talk with Petrino.

His report also said a "very intense" nine-hour interview took place on Wednesday, after multiple background checks were ran on Petrino.

The soon-to-be Louisville coach went 8-4 overall in his first and only season at WKU, including a 35-26 win over Kentucky in their season opener.

The Toppers also set new single-season school records in yardage (5,502) and passing first downs (141) in the 2013 season.

He came to WKU from Arkansas after a controversial offseason in 2012, when he was involved in an April motorcycle accident with student-athlete development coordinator Jessica Dorrell.

Petrino initially said he was alone at the time of the accident, but eventually admitted Dorrell was with him at the scene, and that the two had been involved in an adulterous relationship.

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long fired Petrino for “just cause” on April 10, saying an investigation concluded that Petrino misled him and the public about the accident and his affair with Dorrell.

After a few months which he said were spent mending relationships with his family and working on himself, Petrino was announced as WKU’s head coach on Dec. 10, 2012.

"At this point in my career, it's about getting back and coaching players," he said at the hiring press conference. "It just happened to open up at a place we love.

"I hope it can be as long as possible."

Stewart seemed confident, but cautious at that same press conference.

“No one person is bigger than the program,” Stewart said at the 2012 announcement. “It's about the program.

“The important thing is that the program continues to develop and get better and go to places that its never been.”

Checkmark there. Petrino’s 8-4 record was the best for WKU in their short FBS history, after back-to-back 7-5 finishes in 2011 and 2012.

But with the Tops looking ahead to a third head coach in as many seasons, will the next hire continue where Petrino left off?

I'm finding it hard to get startled by much anymore due to the sheer nonsense of the s--t I see more and more from day to day.

If Pitino can act a fool with the ladies and get away with it, Cardinal nation will be right up Petrinos alley. In other news chastity belt purchases have quadrupled in the Louisville metro area today and are expected to climb!!!

All joking aside I'd be surprised if he doesn't do well there and climbs to a new wrung on the ladder at another school in 1-2 years. It's his tendency to jump like a grasshopper and not stay in one spot for long.

Jurich is an absolute genius. I am close to the situation and am told that he has been planning this hire for 2 years. Jurich single-handedly get Petrino that WKU job, just to be his coach in waiting for Strong. Jurich knew at a school like Louisville, he had one chance to get a coach to commit long-term, and that is Petrino.




He is now structuring a MASSIVE buy out, that will lock in Bobby well into the future. Could be upwards of $20 mil. Who cares about his past? College football is about WINNING.
