Good win for Taylor. No doubt. Big ups.

Did Cotton from E'town suffer a significant injury? Based on the way the game was going, Taylor STILL wins. However, that's gotta be a concern for E'town.

Second, Taylor needs to drop non-district Washington (which it has already crushed TWICE when a lot of teams don't even bother with Washington) and pick up Bardstown or John Hardin to see where it stands against the other teams in the region.

Third, can Taylor beat a major 5th Region team OUTSIDE of Campbellsville? Looking back at history, even recently, and it hasn't happened much. And Elizabethtown or John or Bardstown would bring a much bigger crowd to region than they would for regular-season games at TC.

Fourth, it looks like TC is gonna go on a loooooooooong winning streak. Not many challenges from here on out (after E'town and John, there is a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE dropoff to Central Hardin/Fort Knox/North Hardin and TC plays two of those three when all three were expected to struggle this year, and they have).

Will complacency become a factor? I know last year, Taylor had a good record and went to John Hardin and got beat from pillar to post. After competing in a weak district tourney, Taylor didn't last long at region last year, either.

Fifth, someone said Taylor County is no better than the 5th best team in the 5th region, behind Etown, JH, Btown and Thomas Nelson....and is now attempting to legitimize that definitive statement.

Taylor will be a threat to anyone, they have such a versatile team.

COURIER-JOURNAL (COACHES) PRESEASON RANKINGS
http://www.courier-journal.com/article/2...311230116/
1. John Hardin, 2. Elizabethtown, 3. Bardstown, 4. Taylor County, 5. Thomas Nelson, 6. Central Hardin, 7. Marion County, 8. North Hardin

HERALD-LEADER (COACHES) PRESEASON RANKINGS
http://www.kentucky.com/2013/12/01/29633...egion.html
Top teams: 1. John Hardin; 2. Elizabethtown; 3. Bardstown; 4. Thomas Nelson; 5. Taylor Co.; 6. Marion Co.; 7. Central Hardin; 8. Adair Co.

CATS PAUSE PRESEASON RANKINGS (DONE BY COACHES)
1. John; 2. E'town; 3. Bardstown; 4. Taylor; 5. Central; 6. Marion; 7. LaRue; 8. Bethlehem
(NOTE CATS PAUSE WAS DONE BEFORE Dixsons were cleared at Thomas Nelson, which could explain Thomas Nelson not being there)

Pretty clear the COACHES themselves did NOT think Taylor was a top three team:
John: 1-1-1
Elizabethtown: 2-2-2
Bardstown: 3-3-3

Taylor (4-4-5) was pretty much fourth

I will say based on results, Taylor has played its way into TOP 3 with Bardstown and John.

Hard to put Taylor over those two, though, especially when Bardstown won ON THE ROAD at John while Taylor beat a slumping E'town team AT HOME in a rescheduled game. Plus, Taylor doesn't play Bardstown or John (or a schedule as tough as Bardstown's or John's).

I'd put Taylor third for now. And if John and Bardstown are in the same region bracket -- that's happened several times -- Taylor's in the region final.

Don't know what Bardstown and John would have done to drop out of top 2.

If Cotton is out longterm for E'town -- McDonald still not completely healthy -- that decimates E'town's backcourt. Without Cotton, E'town has no consistent long-range threat. Plus, he's the backup ballhandler.

Thomas Nelson showed preseason rankings don't mean much. They've fallen off.

Meade County football, the 6-A runner-up, and Scott County, the unbeaten 6-A champ, showed preseason rankings don't mean much. Meade wasn't even preseason top-10 in a 32-team class.

I didn't think they Taylor was top 4. Coaches DEFINITELY (based on three different polls) did NOT think Taylor was top-3. Not much a difference.

Of course, Kentucky was preseason No. 1 this season. Not sure the Cats are after three losses.

RANKINGS DO AND CAN CHANGE.

My only knowledge of Taylor County was the drubbing they took last year from John Hardin. Obviously this is a completely different team than last year, which is good for the 5th Region. If Taylor County, or any team from the 5th Region for that matter, are going to beat JH or Bardstown, they will have to be able to handle full court pressure the entire game. I know JH feeds off of this and their entire philosophy is predicated off of this pressure. My question down the road is I know Taylor has the one really good guard, but do they have at least two other guards that can really handle the ball. If not, they would have difficulty if they were to meet down the road.
