Final from Perry Central

Down 35-17 at the half, ouch! Since the Clay County game HC has been very slow getting started, down big in several games early and cant recover. Doesnt seem like they come ready to play or maybe a change or two in their lineup are in order. The Carmichael kid is an energetic kid with tons of basketball skills and great mentality for the game, maybe having him out their early would give this bunch a boost...Just food for thought? By the way where are all of the usual HC posters, seems like some only have perspective when the Black Bears are winning?

The Black Bears have lost five of their last six. We had them ranked in the top five last week, but I can't see them staying there.

They may be a team that their record could be deceiving. I heard their next two games in that Perry Central classic will be against very quality out of state teams. They have a big district game coming up against district favorite Bell Co. at Bell Co. That should be interesting to see how Harlan Co. matches up with a very experienced Bobcat team on their home court.

Breathitt is a team that will possibly be a dark horse for the region title this year. They have improved a lot since the start of the season. This is the second time I have watched them and they have gotten better. When Wes Noble is on they will be hard to handle. They have a big boy who is getting better and they pass the ball well. With their play and the surprising play of Wolfe County this district will be well represented in the regional tournament come March.

^^
Noble is most definately their "spark". Last night he was cold as kraut in the first half; couldn't throw it in the ocean. I thought Breathitt was history. But credit him with adjusting at halftime, and coming out to lead Breathitt in the second half. This kid is impressive to me and a true leader.
If you're talking about me; I am NOT a fair weather fan! LOL Just trying to cope with some family issues that seeme to take a lot of my time. I agree that we are terribly slow to start. We out scored Greenwitch, CT the entire second half, but it wasn't enough since our first half was so weak. Carmical is extremely energetic, but he has some lessons to learn...i.e. not dribbling directly under the goal with 3 players around that are over 6'4". He's smart though, so I expect him to learn quickly. Doesn't he normally come in around mid-way of the first quarter? He's getting a ton of experience so far this season, and I expect that will go a long way in his development. The future is bright for HC basketball, I just wish something could be done for THIS year's team.

Hc's youth are the present and the future. They have to play now for this team to have a chance!

It is clear that one of our fans is anti-Jones by his comments and that is fine, everybody has an opinion. The only thing I will say is just give this inexperienced team some time and I truly believe we will be ok come tourney time.

Let them have it Granny Bear. You are definitely not a fair weather fan. The truth will stand when all else falls. Brother Cecil.

Not sure who you are referring to, but if you are referring to me I can tell you I am not anti-Jones. I have been around a while and seen much of His work over the years and have a lot of respect for him as a coach and as a person! I have been around basketball my whole life and I make observations and have thoughts and ideas, I think that's what these type websites are for. Forgive me if I have different ideas and see things a little different than you do sir.

I don't think anyone should count out the Black Bears. They have been struggling lately, but this is a young squad, who is playing against some good competition outside of the region. Right now, they're in the middle of the pack in the region, but that doesn't mean much come March.

BBCUZ, I don't care if you like Jones' or not, it just seems like all your comments are so negative. I guess I am just reading to much into your post. Forgive me, didn't mean to make you mad. I just think if we give this team some time they will grow and get better.

BBCUZ you are very right, that is what these forums are for is to give your observations and opinions, but I am still curious as to how many games you have watched this year to make those observations and opinions?

Thank you Brother Cecil and bear claw for those positive comments!! I've seen every single game that the Black Bears have played, and I have the sore back and numb butt cheeks to prove it!
Still recovering from the bleachers at Berea!!
I've seen this team fight like a banty rooster against a good Middlesboro team, and bring out the win; and I've seen them play with their heads firmly inserted up their butts. Be they first or last place in the 13th, I will be there to support them!! Unless of course, I have a heart attack yelling at the officials.
Which, reminds me.....I'm always bashing the refs, so I want to commend the officiating in the Perry County Central tournament. I thought they were fair and consistent!! Of course, we never played PCC, only outside teams!!

Something else just occurred to me....I am under the impression that you are not allowed to have artificial noise makers at basketball games. You know, like the air horns and cow bells that we have attached to our bodies during football season. LOL Anyway, one of Breathitt's fans had a cow bell that she rung regularly. I started to complain, but it was such a cute little thing. All brassy and gold in color, and had the cutest little tinkle!
So, I kept my mouth shut! I thought it added to the Christmas atmosphere; certainly was NOTHING like the cow bells I have at home! Besides, one of our fans was ejected from the game for saying and doing a lot LESS than I had done!!!!
