Breathitt County 68 Clay County 65 (2 OT)
#1
Final from Leslie County.

Very good showing by Coach Collins and the Bobcats. Congrats Breathitt.
#2
Noble was on his game tonight. The Bobcats definitely outplayed the Tigers.
#3
It's starting to become pretty obvious that Clay is not quite the juggernaut they thought they were gonna be.. They are a good team, but very beatable by several teams in the mountains including a few teams in the 13th region
#4
Clay Co. has the talent to beat anyone in the mountains. I would not be quick to judge them just because they lost to Breathitt Co. Breathitt Co. has a couple of really nice players and the 6-5 Knoble kid has D-1 talent. This team and Knoble has gone unnoticed for the past two or three years because of the craziness going on with the 14th.

Not judging by this one game, it's just more evidence coming after several close games these guys have had recently. I'm not saying they are not very good, just saying IMO are more beatable than a lot of people including myself thought they would be.

BC can play and beat any team in the 14 region. This team is very underrated . Noble is a top 5 player in the 14 region. Great win tonight.
#7
First loss of the season for Clay County and now there are no undefeated teams in the 13th Region.

Should this loss knock Clay County from the top of our 13th Region Power Rankings?

What do you think?
#8
I agree Noble is n outstanding player but to lose to a top 5-8 team in the 14th is pretty sad. Buckhorn just beat breathitt by 20. And neither of those teams are even in the is discussion for a region championship.
#9
I saw Clay play Corbin and they have all kind of talent, put they looked bad out of shape to me. At every time out they had someone that looked like he was going to die trying to catch his breath. I thought these holiday tournament would be good for them getting to play several games over a short period of time. We will see after the first of the year if they are for real or a pretender.
#10
Clay County's problem right now is jelling on offense. Don't forget (even though he's not been what we wanted) Jake Allen fouled out of this game I believe in the early 4th. Noble is an excellent player.
#11
Clay has got a decent team but they are not head and shoulder above Knox Jackson and Harlan they are trying to replace the pieces they lost when you have just one return started how do you rank them above Knox or Jackson just because Allen came to clay from north Wes and Blake did not play enough in varsity to see how good they would be and Knox and Jackson has got more returning to there team then clay Allen to me is not that good at all to be 6'7 or 6'8 the big kid from Knox is better to me then Allen as far as Wes and Blake they neither one can hit a jumper consistent the farmer kid it's his first year so it will take time to get the ship were it needs to be so we should know close to district time were they stand can they be beat yes and one can on any giving night.
#12
Someone can know how good Wes and Blake would be when they spend time around them. The Tigers will be fine.
#13
I have been around them both for a long time I do know them lol
#14
Then you should have known they both improved. Blake significantly. Haha
#15
I did not say they have not got better over the years I remember when Wes play for Manchester he did not have a jumper and Blake at paces creek did not have a jumper either all I am saying it they need to work hard to get a jumper then what can they do they would be pretty much unstoppable I like clays team I am clay born and bread but it takes time when you have to rebuild your team it's not like they have played together all there lives so they will be find if the pieces come together all I was saying you can't rank clay at 1 when they have as many new pieces like they got that's all
#16
I understand what you're saying but Clay is the best team and most people knew they would be. I didn't think it was by a lot but Jackson and Knox aren't really helping their cause. I expect the Tigers to rebound very well tomorrow.

I was going to say after reading the earlier post that you were among the people who said it wasn't going to be close.
I thought KC might be No. 1 but they haven't played that well either.
Jackson has a lot of potential, but I don't think they are that consistent.
Harlan County could have won at Clay if they could have shot 30 percent from the field in the second half, but they played really bad in the second half there and struggled in Berea. They have so many new starters that they will be inconsistent.
I think Clay has to stay No. 1.
#18
Exactly, they lost in 2OT by 3 points on a night where Allen fouled out and McDaniel had 12. Don't expect that to happen very often.
#19
First off, this game was rigged. 2 of the 3 officials took control after Clay played a terrible 1st half. Clay is the most talented team in the 13th and top 2-3 in mountains. They are a lot like UK in that they are not meshing as quick as we'd hope. They have 3 sophomores and 2 transfers and the person that is having the hardest time adopting is McDaniel. He looks out of sync and unsure how to bring his team together. A lot of time left and I think Clay will be okay but this is a big wake up call. I seen a loss coming on, as they've yet to play a good, complete game.

Go TIGERS!

I thought Knox could have been 1st coming into the season, too, but they just don't look like it right now. They've played some good teams, but I think they lost a couple of games they should have won.

Jackson is the same way. HC has a new team, but I think they'll contend. I think the same about Corbin.

Clay has to stay at the top. They still haven't lost in the region and are very talented.
#22
Clay is clearly still the #1 team in the 13th, but they just look a little more vulnerable right now. They have the parts to be a well oiled machine, but something is holding them back right now it appears! McDaniel isn't playing right now at the level he was playing last year in the regional tourney for sure...
#23
McDaniel was good but not great early in the season last year, at least when I saw Clay against Harlan County. I thought he struggled to handle the ball against Brewer. But, of course, he was tremendous in the postseason.
I'm guessing it might take him a little while considering he's playing golf instead of basketball during the summer.
#24
McDaniel was excellent last year. Clay wanted no part of that HC game in the WYMT after they barely lost to PCC, if that's the game you're talking about. He did what he did in the regional tournament most of the year. Nobody wanted to listen when we said he was the best player in the region though.
#25
Clay will be fine, McDaniel will be fine. This is his 3rd year running the team and all the players from the last 2 years are gone. Clay is the only team in the 13th that can hang with the big boys in the state, they just need to quit playing down to their competition.
#26
I like Clay. I think they're the most talented team in the 13th. However, I don't know if the 13th Region has a team that can play with the big boys in the state. There hasn't been a 13th Region who could do that in a while. I think the last team from the 13th to get past the first round of the Sweet 16 was South Laurel in 2007. Corbin had a good team in '09 or '10, but had to play Louisville Eastern in the first round.
#27
BubbaWatson...you're hilarious! The game with Breathitt was rigged? You have got to be kidding me! After the hundreds of royal reamings that Clay has given teams over the years? You have got to be kidding me! Also...Clay is the only team that can play with the big boys? Really? Jackson had Madison Central on the ropes all night. I think you totally disrepected Knox Central too, which as of now, I would give the slight nod for best team in the region. I've read many of your posts and I can understand that you are going to support your brother, but try not to be so dillusional. Clay is not head and shoulders above everybody in the 13th and while he is a nice player, your brother would be slightly behind Fox and Barger.
#28
Knox Central best team in the region? 3-5? Wow, there is no hope for you. You can have your opinions on your rankings and I'll state facts. Clay is the defending champions and McDaniel is the reigning player of year and region MVP. When Jackson or Knox goes to Rupp then they are the best team. The best player isn't determine by an AAU circuit, how pretty you look, but getting the job done.
#29
You're changing the rules to fit your argument.
This time last year you didn't have North and Allen as the top team and player even though North was the defending champs.
I could see someone ranking Knox Central first with their talent, but they haven't plays as well as they are capable. Barger and Fox are both capable of being the best player in the region, but I think you have to give McDaniel his due with the way he ended the season last year.
#30
I get what you're saying but I don't believe NL was the best team last year. Anybody who will be honest, Clay "should have" beat them in the 2012 final. CC and HC first round matchup was the best two teams IMO. They were good but the two teams in last seasons final were the best teams. The first time that's happened in years.

We won't know who is the best team in this region until everyone plays each other but my money is on the Tigers. I feel like people took 1 loss and turned it into 5. Clay has gotten people's best shots and other than 2-3 games showed why they're #1. I'd follow that with JC/KC tie. Can't figure out either one.
