What to expect in Class 1A Football?

Scotty_Bronson right now we just need a starting qb and everybody else will be playing for 2nd place in the east.air raid will be back I promise with skyler Giffith or freshman Cameron Sizemore wait an see :Cheerlead 55 will have more stats than me Confusednicker::truestory:

Every time you say that I picture you trying to give CPR to a piece of coal.

If that's what it takes to keep coal alive In eastern Kentucky count me in :Cheerlead we need help in all of eastern Kentucky.
#37
Finally something we can all agree on. If not, the Hazards, Wburg, Racelands, Pikevilles will be consolidated into som small county schools. Independent schools need coal to survive.
#38
We won't be able to do anything to keep it going. We have a leader that has made it one of his top priorities to get rid of it.
#39
No kidding. Its crazy. States like ky will fall apart completely. I think by the year 2025, you ver well may see nothing but county schools and private schools. Even if the county schoos are divided into North/South or East/West, as many are now. Thats a frightening thought though. Mayfield, PT, Murray could possibly consolidate, logistically, couldnt they?
#40
Or could u immagine this?...Louisville Prep Academy?(T, X, Male), KY Catholic(Lex Cath, Cov Cath), so many thibgs are going to change if theres not a drastic change in the economy.
#41
The state has had the approach that bigger is better for 20 years. The funding for schools is set up for the larger schools advantage. The state believes it is easier to manage less systems and has made it their goal to shut down small schools. Cumberland, Evarts, Whitesburg, Harrodsburg, Monticello and MC Napier have been victims of that approach.
#42
Thus, in another 10-20 years, the 1A ball we love so much, as we know it, will be a thing of the past.
#43
Scotty_Bronson Wrote:Mayfield, PT, Murray could possibly consolidate, logistically, couldnt they?

No, to far apart, Mayfield and Murray are just over 20 miles and Mayfield and Tilghman are over 25 miles. Murray and Tilghman are really far. Before that would happen you would see them either absorbed by closer county schools but as long as they are financially sound there will be no changes but their school boundaries are locked. For example, some of the Graves County school district is within the city limits of Mayfield. As new housing moves outside the older sections of the cities the schools tax base shrinks in many cases and this will eventually lead to their death in many cases with fixed school boundaries. It's a slow death in most cases and in some areas it's not the case but in most cities with independent school districts it is the case.

How good is Paintsville going to be?
#45
I look for Paintsville to be a little better. But stikk a year removed from being in contention for the district or shaking things up. The eastern bracket should be Wburg, Pikeville, Hazard, and Raceland, the latter two being interchangable. With Fairview and Paintsville being close 5s. Paintsville loses a QB, a RB and some lineman. They will be field with soph/jrs though. I do think that Chirico will have them in contention for the district in 2015.

Based on this years results and factoring in what teams return, Id give a way too early preseason rank like this:

Mayfield(obvious reason)
Beechwood(this year was a fluke, learning year, they will be back to bw in 14)
Williamsburg(returns alot, but goina take some lumps loosing Sizemore)
Russellville(return alot, but need to develop some sort of passing game)
Pikeville(no 2 in the east, very dangerous team if they get Pugh/Charles rb tandem going)
Raceland(doine/oline is the only question mark)
Hazard(see raceland assesment)
Fairview(sleeper to shake thigs up in the east)
Paintsville(could become David in a land of goliaths)

Look familiar? Same old story every year. West is much stronger than the East.
#46
Frankfort may have a slight edge over Beechwood. Russellville loses a lot. This was the year their coach was pointing to. Paintsville will have the edge in their district.
#47
Beechwood is a team to watch out for. They underachieved last year and played poorly, I don't see that happening 2 years in a row. Predominately a sophomore class last year that will only get better.
#48
Paintsville got thumped by both Raceland and Fairview. Even with Fairviews question marks and what Raceland lost, I have a hard time giving them the edge in the district. As it stands rt now it is a 3 horse race. But imo i see Chirico and co being 2015 before real contention.

^^ Agreed SB, I think it will take a year for the incoming freshman to get experience at the high school level. Plus the season will depend on the health of Phelps who will be the key of the season IMO, and if Kash can repeat his early season performance from this year. It will be interesting to see position levels at camp.
#50
Paintsville losing Luke Daniels is a big loss. From what I gather he was a big voice and leader for them the last few years. Kash seemed to have more success at RB as a soph than as a QB as a Frosh. They sure could have used him against Raceland. Idk if it woukd have changed a win or loss, but woukd have definitely made them more competitive. In 2 years Paintsville should be VERY good. In 2 years, our district will be a battle. Next year, Raceland and Fairview will slug it out again for the championship. Chirico was a great hire for the Tigers. Seems like a genuine dude that really cares about the kids and the tradition/history that used to lie with in Paintsville football.

Do any of us stand a chance with Williamsburg having almost everything back?
#52
From what I can gather from the Wburg thread, all hell is breaking loose over the qb positions. Dads calling out dads, name calling, fighting. Ever heard the phrase, "act like you've been there"...i feel bad for the kids if these r their roll models. The favorite resides in the west. 55 u sandbaggin sob. I have a feeling Wburg will do what Raceland 08 did. Loaded...experienced...tallented.then.....under achieve. A mod or two could be used over in the jacket 2014 thread.

We are contender 55 starting to get more local fans on BGR from Williamsburg I think they want me to shut-up an go away.I believe in them more than they did. This year after Williamsburg lost to north laurel and Wayne county you couldn't find a Williamsburg fan on BGR now look on the Williamsburg thread. They are beginning to get the IT FACTOR :lmao:
#54
The IT is insanity, IT isunbelievable, IT is rediculous how many homers come out of the woodwork after a champ apperance. Everyone wants a piece of cake, even if they missed the party! Yea...thu got the IT factor alright!

Someone string me up, I cant believe what I am about to say. But ai feel for 64. The last three years he has said, "Our time is coming", from the get go this season, he told all of us about their defense. Until i saw it, i didnt believe their defense was what it was. Imo though, this season was THAT season for Williamsburg. If things are as they seem, there is alot of fit hitting the shan among player personel disputes. Apparentley the qb postion is up for grabs between 2 guys who may not play, or may not play at Wburg next year, and a wide reciever that played qb in middle school. Who knows what we will see. But the last 2 state runner ups have taken major steps backwards. Last season, Mayfield blasts Fairview, then this year all hell broke loose in Millseat. Now, we have supporters of the same squad of boys bickering back and forth on this forum. That, imo, is a formula for short term success and hit an miss contention.

Teams like Pikeville, Hazard, Mayfield, NewCath and Beechwood(the winningest small school state championship teams since 1990), didnt get where they have gotten by fighting smongst themselves. It takes togetherness theough the good bad and ugly. Seems to me like Wburg could use alot more fans like 64 who r there through the wins AND the losses. Its one thing to critique or be unhappy with a teams performance, its another to completely distespect a players integrity and compromise his immage by getting on here and arguing over who is goina start whe he leaves.

I hope Wburg gets it together, but thus far, its seeming like Fairview all over again.
#57
That is my point exactly. 2007 we had a very talented and I mean very talented team. We didn't even win our district and then lost in the regional finals to Crittendon Co. In 2008 we had an even more talented team. I would even go so far as to say about as talented as the 2010 team, we again did not win our district and lost in the regional finals to Frankfort. This was because of inward fighting. There is very little treatment for cancer in the locker room just like in real life.
#58
Has anyone found out whether #3 for Paintsville will be back next season after tearing his ACL? & How is the Kash kid doing? While everyone was talking about District 7... you cannot rule out Nicholas Co. They just had a pretty rough year and I believe they will use that as energy for next season.
#59
Idk why, but Nicholas Co is far from their teams back in the mid to 90s. Their numbers are poor, they have some decent size, usualky a good RB or 2, generally pretty good LBs. they just dont hace the numbers to compete. They get worn down very easily. Seens lije these days, to compete in even single a, you have to be able to field atleast 40 kids. I think the sometimes mist disrespected and under appreciated and undervalued is a solid scout team.NC just havent been able to get enough guys out to be competitive.

Is it time for football yet? Geez.
