Just wondering why there is not an all "Bluegrassrivals Football Team"? Would be a great idea for one of the Mods to take nominations and pick a first and second team. Could even have honorable mentions. What do ya think?

Excellent idea. I'm game.

I think it would be a great idea. Especially if everyone submitted a vote for best players for certain positions. Then lay out a final list after, say, two weeks and then put out 1st and 2nd team and honorable mention. Maybe we could send out PM's to a certain mod or even several for who we think should be on team.

I like it,,,,,,, The only problem I see is that half of us can't agree on anything and the
other half disagree on everything.... So, how would this team picking go? It would be
interesting, but I'm in if the BGR Ad's can put it together..

The MOD's can't monitor the threads and the post how in the world are they going to take in all the nominations and post a team? Not going to happen:biggrin:

Speaking frankly...it would be a possibility but it would require some extensive help. I feel I have a decent grasp on KY Football...but I would be awful trying to put together an accurate All-State team on my own without a committee of people from all regions.
The best possible effort would be to do a single All-State Team then pick an arbitrary handful of Honorable Mention names.

Yes, I agree that we all don't agree. But surely we, well, most of us can put our homer glasses down and vote for who we thought was a great player that we seen play. As a Belfry fan, I though Warren was a great QB that got the job done, but he was not the QB, that I seen play this year. The kid from Bourbon would get my vote over him as an example. The ad's of the site and a well knowledgeable mod, like EKU could set it up and give honest vote counts and go from there.

I understand what you are saying. Maybe set up a board just for nominations. Player, position, school. Something to that effect. I'm not really sure how to go about it, but thought it would be a good idea to get the kids names out there so to speak.

I put together an all state team last year and was planning on doing one this year just for fun again. I wouldn't mind keeping track of the votes if we wanted to do it.

I think it could be done...
-We would have to handpick a group that would cover all geographical regions... obviously we can't make everyone a mod.. so it would have to be done off-site by email exchange or on a secondary type of forum
- We would openly have to take nominations in advance... say The Quarter-Finals Round through December 24th we would accept nominations. This would allow people to review guys who may get overlooked.
- We would commence democratically choosing a team
What would be awesome is if there were some members of the media that wanted to get involved that may not vote in the AP voting... for example when Derek Forrest posted on here if he wanted to be a member of the committee and subsequently get the selected players some love by announcing the team. Or if members of EKB or other radio stations around the State announced the teams..or at the very least...the players from their coverage area. This leads to this thought I have had.
My gut instinct and the marketing side of me has a slightly different idea. What I would really love to do is a variation of "The Class of The Commonwealth" (Which is typically regionally biased).. I would love to do something like the
example only... STATE FARM KENTUCKY ELITE 25 (PRESENTED BY WKYT AND BLUEGRASSRIVALS)
Have a flagship media correspondent take ownership, get a corporate sponsor on board and make a big deal of it. Send an engraved plaque to the school of each player to present. Choose 10 players on Offense, 10 on Defense, and 5 All-Purpose Players that are non-class specific that best exemplify being the BEST in the State. The Corporate Sponsor simply pays for the Plagues and the Freight to ship them... The Media Flagship makes the announcement... and the BGR committee puts it together and handles the logistics. The Corporate Sponsor gets free air-time and advertising..the Media Flagship gets a segment they can hype to get more unique viewers (and secondarily more clout if they want to be considered the go to for HS Sports News) and BGR gets the benefit of the discussion through the nomination side and afterwards when people make their claim why their guys should have been on the list.
You can also pick an offensive MVP, a defensive MVP, and the Player of the Year. College Football has numerous different awards...Mr. Football doesnt have to be the only award. Much like the Walter Camp Award the Player of the Year can have a fan voting component that makes up a percentage of choosing the winner in addition to the votes from the committee.

I wouldn't mind doing an all state team at all.
I think it would need some serious thought and people who were really dedicated to do it and oversee it. EKUALUM has some great ideals above. The hard part of doing an "open" market style picking of a team would be the overwhelming majority of bias. For example, this site would pick heavily among EKY teams, when that's usually just not the case. I think everyone should be entitled to nominate anyone they so choose, but I think we would be better off having a panel of mods and members making the ultimate decision if we move forward with this in the future.
If that is the case, we may be able to get QQ to open up a new forum that only the mods and those members who are on the committee can see so that it can be discussed regularly without the whole world knowing the way its going to go before we ever even post it.
I think were open to any and all ideals.

I agree. I'm from eastern Ky, but seen some great talent from several different teams, especially in the finals game. I would like to see it, so we could compare it to other all state teams and players of the years out there to even check our knowledge of the game and players that played this year.

Sounds really good to me as well!!
