Mike Holcomb
#1
:rockon:Will Holcomb leave LCC?
#2
If he gets the madison Central job....yes.
#3
Where would LCC go from there if he does leave. 3 coaches in 3 years who would LCC bring in.
#4
The guy's a heck of a coach. If he does, it will be a loss more for LCC in my personal opinion than for him.
#5
Why would he and where would he go? MC? Personally I hope he does leave LCC because they are in our district and he is an AWESOME coach and will make LCC very competitive.
#6
Why would he leave after one year? He didn't have much to work with, and we still double our wins, and was one game from hosting a playoff. He has some great athletes who are coming back. He also has a great winter program and spring conditioning that he didn't have last year due to late hiring. We will be fine. He is getting money so he will stay at least two more years. If Ozz retires he will be in line for athletic director for sure.

LCC's track record keeping coaches is not good.
#8
They better keep Coach Halcomb happy and start working with their feeder programs. I'd say Mike has 10 more years left in him at coaching at least. They need to have some coaching consistancy up there and be happy with what they have and build on that. They were real lucky to get Jaylin Williams. Wished he'd came to PCC.
#9
Trust me when I say they now are pushing the feeder program. With three 8th grade teams they are surely going to push to have numbers, and push to get these kids ready.

He will stay if the feeder program is good and the addministration likes him. He can retire at anytime but I say he would like to coach a few more years maybe finish up back at Nelson County were hes from.
#14
Mike has had many chances to move. He may move this time. If he did , I would be somewhat surprised. Bottom line he loves mountain football.
#15
This job will be open. Money problems in LCC.
#16
Why would he leave after one year? That's just silly.
#17
Best wishes to Coach Holcomb either way. Seems to be a class act.

From an outsider looking in....

Letcher Central's expectations and the program's sense of self does not come close to matching what it's true identity is.

I think LCC can be a successful program, but they have got to learn patience... clear away the politics and people who want to run things.. and simply be supportive. Until LCC can trust a coach and his process and give 100% support from the administration, boosters, and community they will continue to flounder.

IMHO Holcomb is the man for the job and when they hired him it was a home run... now they need to do everything in their power to keep him. If they can achieve that..then it is time to let him do his thing and be worker bees.

My understanding is Holcomb has sent his paper work in to retire and agreed with the old super to remain in classified position for 50K. New super in having to cut 500K from budget can not justify that position. Neither at fault, just a bad situation on both sides. I too think he leaves for another job.
#20
Not looking good for the cougars. Who is the early favorite to replace Holcomb if he leaves?
#21
Money is tight nowadays. I would hate for Coach Holcomb to leave LCC, well, really I hope he does only for our sake because he is one HECK of a coach. I just hope where ever he stays or goes he deserves the best. Good luck coach.

Already been told by assistant coach he is staying.

That is good for Letcher County. I'm happy for you all if he stays. He seems like a class act from what I've seen of him.

I meant to say also he wants to stay. But the job may not be there, after he retires. Better get it confirmed by the super. He is the one that will make the call, Coach Holcomb wants to be there. But the 50k will not be there.
#25
Mike is not going anywhere unless LCC don't take care of him. Then he will walk and I wouldn't blame him. I think he will be at LCC for the rest of his tenure if they keep their end of the Deal.
#26
I promise you the new super will not honor that deal, the old one made. Laying off teachers and paying a classified position 50K. That will not happen. It is a bad situation for both. I would not blame either if it doesn't work out.

They were on the right track with Hillard Howard, as soon as he retired is when it went bad. Three coaches in four years is a recipe for failure, that combined with LCC never having a feeder system it's hard to be good year in and year out. All you can do is just sit back and pray you get one of those years that a good class with a few great athletes were born in the same year come by.

I don't know if they have a feeder in place now, I've not keeped up with it, but I know if people will just listen to Holcomb and give him time he knows how to get a job done.

So you are telling us, that Mike was hired away from Breathitt Co. (where he had Coached for 20+ years ) with promised made. Now these promise will not be kept. That my Friend is Wrong!! I don't care if they have a new Super. or a new whatever. I know Mike would not have come to LCC if he had any ideal this would happen. He came in good faith with the intent to turn that program around and stay several years.
#29
Pretty much. There are other reasons Coach Holcomb came to LCC. To help his retirement and things at Breathitt were not very peachy. The state dept. ect. Either, way he will be offered a job, just not all the money the other super offered. It will be up to him.
#30
he is going to be at LCC for about 4 more years is what I was told .
