Rank The Finals Participants
#1
This hypothetical is always fun:

1. Bowling Green- IMHO the clear #1 team in the State. Great season and a great Senior Class.

2. Scott County- Cards finally plant a public school flag into 6A

3. Meade County- a Controversial fumble call away from a State Title

4. Collins- What a great storyline as they topple the unbeatable Bluebirds

5. Highlands- Birds fall in an instant classic

6. DeSales- Very impressed with the Colts.. probably should have dominated the scoreboard more than they did..but a very complete team

7. Belfry- Put on a defensive clinic and for once the key kick split the uprights.

8. Wayne County- Cards were step for step with Belfry.. just a few moments of execution were the difference

9. Pulaski County- Maroons had a tough draw against BG. Greta season for a program who is developing into a perennial power.

10. Mayfield- Cards could play with, and beat, most of these teams on any given night. That says a lot about a 1A team.

11. NewCath- Probably not the best Breds team of the past 10 years, but you have to admire their fight

12. Williamsburg- Great to see them in Bowling Green..definitely building tradition

There are 3 or so above us that I would put money on us beating if we could play them.

Who would those be?

In a one game setting I think Mayfield could potentially beat every school on the list except the Top 2 or 3... but judging what I saw from the standpoint of size, depth, and defensive speed I would give the edge to the teams I have on there.
#4
I agree with EKUALum05 except for mayfield being in the 10 spots.I would have had mayfield around 6 or 7 and pulaski move up pass wayne co Confusederiously:

Same question. I'm curious also! Please don't say Belfry or Wayne..:Shaking:
#6
I also disagree with you EKU on Desales, very good team, no doubt. But I would place Belfry, Wayne and Pulaski above them. JMO.

DeSales and Collins were the two biggest eye openers this weekend to me. Meade equated themselves well. I really liked DeSales balance, depth, and ability to hurt you with the big play or sustaining drives. Their defense left a lot to be desired.

Pulaski...truthfully speaking..kind of disappointed me. I know they were playing the best team at WKU.. but I did not look at them and see a team who looked like a 5A powerhouse. Scott County was a bit underwhelming as well... still a very good team.. but I was expecting to see a team who could contend as the best team in the Bluegrass and simply didnt see that. Obviously Highlands also has to be mentioned, but I give more of that credit to Collins who looked like a different team from their last Finals appearance.

1. Highlands (yes, the birds lost, but no doubt the best team)
2. Mayfield (very underrated)
3. Scott County (also underrated in terms of overall ranking)
4. Bowling Green (nice win streak, good win against Pulaski)
5. Meade County (solid team)
6. Pulaski County (good up and coming power)
7. Collins (shocked highlands, also up as coming power)
8. Belfry (runs the ball, wears you down - can make the occasional throw)
9. Wayne (good passing team/defense - underrated running team
10. Desales (good 2A program)
11. Williamsburg (only looked bad in finals because mayfield is insane - wburg has very good team)
12. NCC (solid team, but lucky to make it to finals)

Prior to the finals I rated Scott Co as #1 but now agree that BG is #1 after seeing them play. I have Collins and Highlands ahead of Meade and Mayfield ahead of Desales.

:thatsfunn:thatsfunn Over 99% of the posters on Bluegrassrivals are rolling their eyes and laughing at you right now. Most are not even rubbing it in. They have every opportunity to be like you and troll Highlands thread and make fun and rub it in, but chose not too. I guess most chose not to be like that. But to still rank Highlands as the #1 team is funny. No matter what you say or whatever little come back you have, it is useless. At least for this year, you're trolling has lost all credibility.

I think the Highlands loss caused severe damage to WideRight's trolling ability. I told him the other day that he was off. He is a professional troll and seems to have lost his Mojo. Keep working buddy, it will come back in time.

This isn't trolling, it's fact. The best team doesn't always win. I could try to be politically correct and rank it the way you want me too, but that's not how I roll.

As with Collins pulling the upset over Highlands, this happens to all the greats once in a while. Highlands won six straight titles and almost won a seventh. Belfry lost in three straight finals games, two of which they should have won, and won their first state title in nearly a decade. I wouldn't be saying too much if I were you.

As you said, the best team doesn't always win.Confusedhh:Confusednicker: Talking about not saying much. :biglmao: I speak facts. Highlands lost!! No, the way you roll is that you are a highlands homer and would NOT speak the facts and rank them below the best team in the state which is Bowling Green.

Yeah, considering Bowling Green struggled with a John Hardin team in the playoffs that never threatened Highlands. BG and Highlands were in the same division for several years. Each year in the state finals BG either got throttled, or was nowhere to be found while the west sent teams like Franklin-Simpson. Now that BG is in a Highlands-free division, they're the best team in the state all of a sudden. :biglmao:

I guess I will just be happy with being 1a state champ. No matter the reasoning or thoughts, we will never know. The reason we will never know will be because of the fact they don't play each other. Would it not be awesome if the state champs could all play one another afterwards to settle this.
#27
I didn't get to see this years edition but a lot of Mayfield teams could compete with anyone.
#28
I think as I have stated before, this was the most overachieving Mayfield bunch that I have ever witnessed. We did things this year that I never expected. I did think we would have a good shot at winning 1a. I did not expect us to be able to beat McCracken, Fort Campbell and Paducah Tilghman all this year. I figured their speed would and depth would eventually kill us. These kids just would not let that happen. They used their minds and strategies to match the faster teams that we faced. That speaks well to the type of young men we had as a team this year.

Highlands won by a TD. They never had a running clock against them either. BG was up 27-0 at one point on JH. If you wanna compare scores, let's compare Warren Central and Lexington Catholic.

I never said Highlands had a running clock against JH. They build up a good lead, and JH never threatened. If you want to talk about LC and WC, I'll be happy to. First off, Highlands got a running clock on LC in the first half, getting a 36 point lead halfway into the second quarter. The one weak area with this Highland team was letting up as they did against LC. BG had a lot more trouble with LC, allowing them to score first and not being able to put the game away until the second half. As for WC, Highlands built up a huge lead on them, one point away from a running clock. The Birds subbed heavily for the second half, allowing WC back into the game. It was a learning experience, but Highlands still won the game. I really wish Highlands and BG would get to play to send BG on a flashback to the time period of 2005 - 2007 in the state finals games when they were beat handily by Lex Cath, Cov Cath, and then Highlands.
